Rodgers looks like a straight dumbarse at this point. Let me go consult my "new" friend Joe Rogan. Okay, Aaron.

Just a heads up the flu is starting to pick up in Indy. For the kids RSV is still active and it looks like Covid is going back up. For the kids there are no restrictions on giving the flu and the covid vaccine at the same time. Both should be prioritized for the kids.

What you can expect in the coming months as school districts remove mask policies is a surge in infections. We will have school outbreaks that will either reverse this policy or alter the quarantine rules. If we think we are polarized now then expect a lot of angry people when the Holiday surge comes and schools are slow to respond.

We do not have enough kids vaccinated to really stop the outbreaks that will happen so personally I would not wait on getting kids vaccinated.

So how big of a deal is this new variant?
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

Don't know yet. My guess is that it has potential to be a problem but most likely won't be. I haven't looked into the different mutations but the vaccines to my knowledge are based on receptor binding domain that is 222 amino acids long. If the new variant has 30 mutations in this domain then sure it could effect the vaccine efficacy. Most likely it has a few in this domain and the rest are in some other part of the spike protein and the scientist haven't determined if they are plausible gain of function mutations yet.

The evidence will be if it becomes the dominant variant which will take a couple of weeks to a month to know if it is out pacing delta. The delta variant will be hard to out pace so I am not that worried. We will go through another surge this winter and this new variant if it is a problem will take many months to become a problem in the US.

Here is an update on the omnicron variant. So a good portion of the mutations do appear in the receptor binding domain. That means the vaccines and the antibodies they produce could produce less efficacy. This is speculative though as you do not need a large region that is not mutated for the antibodies to work.

For example I am having a company make an antibody for my work and it requires 14 amino acids to detect what I want to see.

The receptor binding region is 222 amino acids long. You only need a small portion that is unchanged for antibodies to work and a good portion of these mutations will not be much different from the original amino acid sequence.

I can explain why that is but I will probably lose some people in the explanation. Amino Acids which are the things mutated come in classifications based on size, charge, and hydrophobic or hydrophilic properties. For the spike to work it has to maintain these overall properties for the spike to bind to your cells. So think of some of these mutations as slight variations which could still be detected by the antibodies.

In theory the spike can not change too much before it loses its ability to infect our cells. This is especially true for the region on the spike that binds to our cell.

So if the vaccines produced to the 222 amino acid spike region was producing 22 variations (combinations) of antibodies then this new covid variant could compromise a portion of them but certianly not all of them.

This may require higher amounts of antibodies produced by the vaccine so they work which why I would get the booster if you haven't already.

If anyone needs me to explain this further just let me know.

Well covid finally got me last week, me and the wife tested positive and everything, luckily for me as soon as I felt a little weird I started to treat myself right away.

Tested myself this morning and tested negative, wife is still testing positive.

Funny thing is my wife sees a "natural" remedies doctor and she recommended her that thing but for humans, no reason other than anecdotal s***.

Yes I'm glad I was done with those people a couple of years ago

Not to ruin a perfectly good joke here but it is from the earth. Well earth from the coast of Japan.

On the flip side many people who take this drug for covid are probably curing themselves of parasites. Win win if you know what I mean.

Well my 5 year old got the vaccine on Tuesday of this week. This morning we noticed she was starting to develop hives on her back and sides of her torso. This afternoon when she got home from school the hives have started to spread to her stomach and chest area. She goes to the doctor later this afternoon.

Real safe and effective though! Thanks Fauci, FDA, CDC and all tech companies like youtube and google for censoring everything about it as i try and research this or find other similar anecdotal experiences.

We made the decision to get her vaccinated because her elementary sent out a notice to all parents that they will be revising the masking policy and quarantine procedures after the winter break due to the availability of the vaccines. Meaning they were looking to remove masks and other various policies. So we thought okay lets do it so that she is more protected... should have stayed with my initial gut feeling when these got approval for kids and waited half a year.

Sorry to her she got a reaction like that.

                              From the cdc website
                              https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...-reaction.html

It most likely is a mild side effect. A severe case is really rare as in 5 per million rare.

A simple anti histamine will probably do the trick and it won't hurt the vaccine efficacy.

I am curious what the doctor gives as a treatment.

Yup he prescribed Zyrtec and said they will probably go away in a few days, but to expect the hives to get much worse before they start to fade.

Since she has already had Covid at the beginning of the year the doctor recommended that she not receive the 2nd dose due to the allergic reaction and to just think of this as her Covid Booster.

I am wondering what would happen if she did get the 2nd dose. I wasn’t at the appointment so I didn’t get a chance to ask. I have read many stories now about young adults who got rashes or hives on their first dose but had no adverse reaction on the 2nd dose. I suppose it could go either way though, as in having an even worse reaction and full on anaphylaxis?

the last time she has hives like this was when she was on a course of amoxicillin.
