I've always wondered about this as there are so many States I haven't been to yet. What would your choice be out of all the States you have or have not visited? I've always been intrigued by the Northwest states(despite the rain and never have been there). States like Oregon and Washington. You can even list the city or town you would want to live in as well.

Washington & Oregon would be good year round options in my opinion. No extreme heat or cold, plenty of outdoor recreation options, access to some big city amenities and of course great beer. Been there a few times and really enjoyed it.
If I did it right I have retirement on the horizon in roughly 10-12 years so this kind of thing is on my mind. If the $$$ allow I'm thinking of staying in MN 7-8 months of the year (tough to beat summer and fall here) and then head somewhere in the Southwest that has good golf and some other things to do outside the rest of the year. Maybe SW Utah. -

Portland is also very appealing to me, and a potential reality. My company has an office in Portland and it doesn't really matter where I do my job as long as I'm connected to the internet. It's not like I'm directly connected to our servers anyway. I'm in Bloomington and our servers are at a colo in Indy.
Also, I have a lot of friends in Oregon, although they are mostly located in Bend. Seriously, in 9 months after I've gotten 3 years in and I'm vested in our Employee Stock Ownership Program, I'm going to pitch the idea of letting me transfer to either Portland or Denver.Comment

Just about every part of the country has natural hazards, some maybe worse than others. Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc.Comment

I don't plan on leaving California. I'd do Hawaii, but probably only for a few years. I've come to really love Sacramento. City is on the rise, we've got great beer, great food, no snow and not nearly as expensive as the bay. Not to mention easy to get to the bay, Tahoe, and LA is a short flight away

I would like to move to the west coast, Hawaii or parts of Florida and the south towards the coast. They say living near an ocean is good for people with cystic fibrosis. I have heard good things about California and Oregon.Comment
