I hope this kid grows up to be a Giants fan
Baby to be named after RG III
The Washington Redskins' fan base is about to grow by one, and the Dallas Cowboys have only themselves to blame.
Marissa Pena, a 31-year-old lifelong Cowboys fan, lost a Thanksgiving Day bet to her boyfriend, Emanuel Vega, who is -- you guessed it -- a lifelong Redskins fan. The stakes: the name of their unborn son.
As a result of the Redskins' 38-31 victory, the couple will welcome Robert Griffin Vega -- yes, RGV -- into the world next month. The due date for their first child is April 16.
"I thought that was cool, our first official relationship game on Thanksgiving of all days," Vega told The Washington Post. "She thought it was cool too, so we needed some kind of bet. She said the loser would wear the jersey of the other team on the last game of the season at a Redskins bar. That would be horrible for me. That would be horrible."
So instead they agreed to let the winner pick the baby's name.
After two names -- Emmitt Vega and Darrell Green Vega -- were rejected, the couple went with their favorite active players. So they settled on Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III and Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin as the options.
"I was second-guessing the whole time, like, 'What am I thinking?'" Vega told The Post. "If she's gonna name him after a Cowboys player, there's no doubt he would be a Cowboys fan. My son, as a Cowboys fan? I might have to disown him. ...
"We've had bets before, where she would wear my Redskins sweater at work if they won. But the name of our son? Determining what fan he would be? It was just insane that they won. That was even bigger than the division title."
As for Pena?
"It's all fair in love and war," she said.
