I care... But I'm reading this on Wed night...
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

I wasn't expecting Jeff Saturday to turn this around like Bill Parcells, but I was hoping for some basic common sense. To me, playing Matt Ryan violates common sense. Why would you not give Ehlinger a look in these last four games? He almost certainly isn't any sort of longterm answer, but we KNOW Ryan isn't the answer now or in the future. Put Ehlinger in so that we can at least get a decent sample of games on him and see if there's anything we'd want there for the future.

Is Saturday not wanting to be the guy who benches a former MVP quarterback for what would be the second time this season? Is he not wanting to do the difficult task of benching a guy who was playing in the NFL back when Saturday himself played? I don't get it. If he's not wanting to bench Matt Ryan because he's Matt Ryan, then I don't think this is the right job for him.

I get putting Ryan in 5 weeks ago against Vegas when we still were clinging to a small sliver of playoff hopes. But those died big time in the weeks that followed and Ryan has looked awful in the process. He's so bad that it's also hurting the ability of the rest of the offensive players who need to keep developing for the future. It's hard for receivers to develop when the QB can't move the ball downfield.

Everyone wanted Ryan to work here, but it just didn't. It should be over at this point.

It's not our money, but it would be awful for the Colts if Ryan were to get hurt and be unable to pass his March physical....meaning the Colts would owe him a lot more money. That would be organizational malpractice given the current position the team is in where the season is long dead.

Yeah, we know Ryan isn't the answer. The season is lost and this faint hope of the playoffs (insert Jim Mora voice and quote here).... how IS there some type of faint hope of the playoffs??? Foles or Ehlinger should be the QB. In fact, I'd argue that swapping out QBs IS the better chance to win. The ONLY benefit to Ryan MIGHT be IF the game is close at the end, his experience MIGHT help in a pressure situation. But he still has the physical limitations. Ehlnger or Foles might actually have the team NOT behind late in the game.
So, either see what Ehlinger can do... or try Foles if they really want to win and realize Ryan isn't helping with winning anyway. It's very possible Foles won't be here next season anyway. And surely Ryan won't be. And if they don't have confidence in Ehlinger to just get him some game experience and see what they have, even if it's for the future backup spot, then what ARE they doing???

The thing is, Ehlinger didn’t look bad at all against Washington and Washington has actually proven to be a pretty solid team. Aside from the fumble, he generally played pretty decent with the restrictive play calling. Made a beautiful long throw to Pierce that unfortunately was immediately negated by a JT fumble. We had a chance to win that game. Sure NE was a disaster, but NE has been a disaster for many Colts teams. Not going to knock Ehlinger too much for that. The two games simply aren’t a large enough sample size on him to make a fair judgment. If you play him the rest of the season, then that would be a decent sample size of games.

He’s almost certainly not any sort of longterm answer, but it would be way smarter to give him some time than gambling with $17 million by playing Ryan who can barely even move the ball downfield. It’s complete malpractice if Ryan gets hurt and the Colts owe him that extra money.

I mean there’s no way the Colts can actually be considering bringing Ryan back as the starter next year is there? At that point you risk losing a fanbase that has generally been very loyal through some frustrating years recently. It sounds crazy to suggest the Colts would consider bringing him back, but it’s also crazy to still be starting him right now so who knows.

guess 33 is Saturday's lucky number

give up 33 to the Cowboys in the 4th quarter

give up a 33 point lead to lose to the Vikes on a Saturday, no less

                      just brutally embarrassing...

Games like this really make me wonder if the NFL is scripted/ rigged that being said at least they are in a better position in the draft.

That was a remarkable collapse! Thanks to Matt Ryan for delivering.

Colts were literally outscored by a combined 55-0 in the 4th quarters against Dallas and Minnesota.

Since I already knew what was going to happen, I watched the debacle on DVR last last night (AKA early this morning) with a finger on the FF button. So, between fast-forwarding and dozing off, that 33 point first half lead looked a lot like smoke and mirrors to me. Special teams and defense had much to do with that score, not the offense going on long, sustained drives. While it was still a high mountain for the Vikings to climb, all they had to do was not give the ball away and clean up special teams making sure to pin the Colts back. The Colts will then give you the ball more times than not, one way or the other.

You can't expect the defense to continually take the field and hold up, drive after drive. You have to give them some time to rest.

I suppose the amazing thing was, the Vikings cleaned things up, but didn't make much headway until the 4th qtr. But, the Colts could only muster a 3rd qtr FG once their offense was fully responsible for scoring, and moving the ball into scoring position.

Also, getting a FG on the end of a drive is better than nothing, but an offense needs to be able to score TDs too. No, Frank Reich, that doesn't mean going for it rather than taking the 3. When you can't get a first down in 3 attempts, or get it in the endzone in 3 attempts, and your offense is generally anemic anyway, you do have to take the 3. Don't make a bad situation worse and trade nothing for a gamble in hopes of 6.

I don't really blame Saturday for going for it yesterday at the end of regulation. If you can't hold a 33 point lead, and get get less than a yard when the game depends on it, then you don't really deserve to win. It wasn't even like the Colts were in a position that turning it over on downs should've been catastrophic. The defense had already given up nearly all of the lead in the 4th quarter so kicking it away didn't look like much of an option to me either. Unfortunately, a FG, if missed, would've given the Vikings even more field position considering it's the spot of the ball that determines where the opposition gets possession. A rule the NFL might want to consider changing... but I digress.
And then there's the quick whistle on the 4th down QB sneak... A year long the refs have been using a slow whistle, allowing players to get stood up and then pushed from the rear... and then when the Colts need that time yesterday, the refs blow the quick whistle calling and end to forward progress, or forward progress stopped, just as (with help) Ryan surged forward. But again, squander that much lead, one play shouldn't have mattered anyway. It never should've gotten to that.

So, point being, even with that many points on the board, it was still ultimately the fault of the offense that cost this game. You have to be able to sustain drives... you have to be able to score on sustained drives. You can't count on the defense or special teams to keep getting the ball back or getting you great field position (or score for you). The defense needs the offense to get them breaks over the course of the game, and to keep the other team at a distance on the scoreboard. Otherwise, you're always going to be susceptible to the greatest comeback in regular season history biting you. No lead is safe.
