Anybody Else Who Didn't See The Pacers As Serious Contenders At Beginning Of Season?

Not saying this bad of a collapse didn't surprise me a little, but I seriously never thought the Pacers are serious Title contenders even before the start of the season. I always root for them and hope for the best, but I had the feeling last year that we got hot and got on a bit of a roll and actually played over our heads a little to push Miami to game 7. We match up well with that team also which is why I think the Pacers were a little over-rated at the end of last year.. So this really doesn't surprise me other than I didn't think we would collapse.

Sure we got off to an awesome start this year, but we were falling behind every game and squeeking by a lot of low grade East teams. The only way I thought we had a shot this year at the Title is if we improved our bench dramatically which unfortunately didn't happen. Or if Granger came back to pre injury Granger which was very unlikely.I've always had doubts about Hibbert's inconsistency and mental fragility. I have always had doubts with Lance being a Jeckyl and Hyde type of player. I have always had doubts that PG could step up and carry a team on his back. Never in my wildest dreams did I see the team looking this bad, but I'm probably not as shell shocked as most of you because my expectations were lower.

Cool. I respect everybody's opinion but I disagree. I don't expect this to be a popular topic on a Pacers message board.

Because of youth and the lack of team speed along with mediocre offenese I had doubts but their strong start kinda fooled me.
I think this team with the right moves and some maturity could be a contender.

I agree. I just don't see it this year.

Totally agree with you there. Lack of team speed and lack of shooters was a concern. I thought maybe Cope and CJ could help with the shooting aspect....but alas.

I definitely thought we had a chance if things broke just right, like if the Spurs and Thunder got upset in the West and Wade wasn't at 100% in the ECF. We were playing at a level that was good enough to win a championship with the right circumstances, absolutely in my opinion.

Unfortunately, maddeningly, heartbreakingly, it wasn't meant to be. Still, I thought we had a decent shot.

Ill be honest, I thought that it was a near lock we would be in the finals... especially after the first few months... Now I have come back to earth because of the poor play... But I believe that if this team can catch whatever has been lacking the past few months, then there is no way that we can be stopped by an Eastern Conf. team, Heat especially...

I thought we'd be good, but I was skeptical of our ability to be a championship contender. But we were so good, the slow starts notwithstanding, the first three months that I bought in to it.

Going into the season I questioned whether the Pacers would be as good as the Heat, Thunder or Spurs.

This is where I stand. I thought we was a Top 3 team in the East before the season started. During the first three months, I felt that this team was championship team.

HOWEVER, I STILL believe that this team is still a championship team. I DON'T believe in the weak belief of "they played above their heads". How the hell do you consistently "play above your head", but you're improving every year? That doesn't make logical sense. That's like me getting better and better every year, but the Boss keeps telling me that what I'm doing is not sustainable. WTF? Really?

This team IS capable of winning a championship when focused, but they're own worse enemy right now. The Pacers are beating the Pacers.

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

I expected the Pacers to get over the hump this year and make it to the finals. Adding Scola and CJ Watson seemed enough to get it done including the development of our other players....and the aging of the Heat players.

That's about the best summation of the implosion I've heard so far, "the Pacers are beating the Pacers".
