Murphy Still Adjusting To Role With Nets

Troy Murphy helped the Nets notch a victory on Sunday, but he still isn't used to his up-and-down playing situation.

"Not even close. I have not accepted it, not at all," said Murphy. "This is not a role I'm accustomed to, and nor do I expect it to continue. I do not accept it at all."Murphy hasn't gotten off the bench in four of New Jersey's last seven games.

His name has popped up in trade rumors once again, namely in a possible deal with the Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony.

Murphy has been traded twice before in his career.

"I know it's a business. My name's been in there before, it'll be in there again," Murphy said. "I really have no idea [if he'll be traded]. I can only control what I can control."

This is why I didn't like Murphy, nor O'Brien.

He goes from 'happy 3 ball land', to a coach asking for toughness and defense. He's as lost as a virgin in a brothel right now. He's watched it several times over the years, but has no idea how to do it.

I blame O'Brien for not asking it of his players, and Murphy for not knowing how to do it.

Wow, indeed. Much more strongly worded than the standard response to that kind of question.

"Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well." - Voltaire

I do feel bad for him. He's a very humble guy and a true professional. It's not like he's stuck behind the likes of Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard.

Avery Johnson either hates you or likes you. He did not like Terrence Williams and now he's in Houston.

It seems he's coming around on Murphy, who's now in the rotation. I think it has more to do with Avery HATING backup center Johan Petro, who's fallen out of the rotation and someone has to get those minutes.

Murphy should be traded to a team like Phoenix.

I think Avery's coaching of Troy is what any reasonable coach would do. It is what we should have done the last 3 seasons, but no... he was Jimmy's favorite player and our team MVP

Murphy will never be good in any system unless they have all other 4 players playing outstanding team defense. Who really wants their PF to be the ultimate weak link???

Our team plays good defense. We just turn the ball over to much and Roy(our only true center) gets pushed around to easily. Talented point guards kill us, but DC is a second year player. Obrien has always preached the importance of defense and are major weakness' both last year and this year have been on the offensive end.

Jim may have preached defense... yet, TROY FREAKIN' MURPHY...

Hello, shall we deny history? Is the earth older than 6000 years old? Did the Romans ever exist? Did Troy Muprhy play 30+ mins on this team last year while playing horrible defense?

I wish Johnson was our coach right now. Troy will have to adjust at some point to the fact that he isn't a starting PF on almost any team. Playing for JOB inflated Troy's value but it wasn't good for him. I doubt if he starts playing defense at this point in his career. He'd make a good 3 point specialist if he could accept the role and salary. I'll bet he doesn't get much more then the vet min. next year.
Why do teams tank? Ask a Spurs fan.

I'm sure it would be difficult for a player who has always played a lot of minutes to be told your out of shape and not even get off the bench on a bad team.

I think that Troy should look at how TJ Ford has handled himself as an example. Forget who you want starting or backing up we know that TJ can give the team some good things. Most importantly, at least as far as I know, TJ has handled himself like a true professional which is something Troy isn't doing in New Jersey.

Hmm...kinda makes you wonder how Murph acted behind the scenes as a Pacer...

Troy didn't seem like a nasty guy with the Pacers.

He gave me a pair of his shoes after a game once and tossed me his shooting shirt at another game (in NJ I believe).

I think he's just frustrated because he's always gotten time where ever he was. He's a good player and would do well coming off the bench and backing up a PF who is already decent.

When I think of a good destination for him, I think of Portland.

Miami would be a good fit. Then need a great spot up shooter - he would fit the bill.
