Isn’t it odd that we apparently did better with lesser picks in a weaker draft than when we had more and better picks in a deeper draft?

Some ot that is scouting, which the team both deserves credit and blame. Some of it though is Carlisle as a coach. IMO he does much better with players who have low ceilings but high floors vs players who have high ceilings and low floors. Like almost all coach's he can't stand mistakes and sadly rookies often make mistakes but young inexperienced players make more mistakes often times than their counterparts who have a couple of more years of college experience.

I suspect that Carlisle has been more involved in the Draft process over the last couple of seasons. Some misses but some hits as well. As for Furby, he was more of a Player that just dropped to us that wasn't expected to be there. So, more luck than not in that pick.

The draft is always a crap shoot. You can look thru the draft tables over the years and you will see many failures of first round picks.

1st round picks are exponentially more likely to hit than 2nds. The dice are way more weighted in your favor the earlier you're drafting.

I agree, however while the odds are higher the results are not guarenteed. There are several 2nd round draft choices that are doing very well in the NBA.

Bummer on Tshiebwe. I really thought he had a skill-set that the Pacers: A) Both need more of, and B) would be useful off the bench with his elite rebounding skills.

I like QJ because he has that dog mentality, but if I'm picking based on need, I'm signing Oscar over him. QJ has zero chance of ever being used on the main roster. Oscar could be used.

oscar was played off the floor in the g league playoff.

If he cannot stay in front of g league players, what makes you think he can stay in front of nba talent.

Freeman also outplayed Oscar in the summer league.

qj also have a better summer league showing. So the decision is correct (regarding 2 ways) based on what they have shown..

My point is, QJ will be so behind in the depth chart that seeing the floor for the Pacers is slim. Oscar brings rebounding where we struggled. I agree that Freeman has more promise.
But overall it kind of fell on Oscar because a two way was offered but he waited too long, the Pacers pulled the offer.

Imo, Oscar just didn't really seem to have length or explosiveness to do what he does so well in the G-League against NBA big men. Ideally, you need at least one of the two... or shooting or something to hang your hat on. Think he will crush it overseas though.
