Depends if your a believer in Tyrese and Benn are studs/studs in waiting. Two studs at hard to fill positions will get you more than mediocre. Also depends on your definition of mediocre. Pacers have definitely been mediocre recently. If being in the playoffs and advancing but not winning titles is mediocre then basically every team is mediocre

They are 7th in DRB %, 2nd in blocks, 3rd in opponents points in the paint. At the beginning of the season I thought the fit with the bigs was pretty poor but at least defensively they seem to be meshing pretty well. Still ultimately equates to 26th in DRating but maybe something to build on........

Pritchard needs to hurry up. Have to do whatever they can, in their control to get that #1 pick. Get Wembenyama and the Pacers can really take over the league.

What a pleasant surprise this season has become and how much our perspective has changed over the course of just a few weeks. Even if the wheels fall off the bus here at some point, I'm thoroughly enjoying this roster and this team. Rick deserves a pat on the back as well because he's been approaching this with seemingly just the right amount of teaching, discipline and patience.
I agree, this team is fun to watch, and I believe will win more games than most people think.

It’s not a bad thing if they show out; if it helps us get a mid-first round pick next year for each of them (which presently I don’t think we’d get for either), then it’s all good.

I’m increasingly open to the idea of keeping Hield long-term though.

Myles did a good job all night reading the defense and going to spots where the ball handler/passer could find him for a good look. Game was pretty much an ideal example of how Myles should play offensively. Find the open creases and be ready for the catch & finish, take advantage of post mis- matches, hit open jump shots at a good percentage etc. Most games won't show near this level of production but he would be more consistently efficient. He competed physically on the defensive end too in addition to the usual rim protection, back stopping free drivers, calling out screens and trying to keep the young guys somewhat connected.

It's early but the thing that makes me think the tank could be off is how resilient this group has been even with the injuries, different line-ups etc. Most grit we have seen since Vic's first season.....

Edit: quick Nembhard observation. The play where he instinctively screened the Pelican on the long rebound so Haliburton was the only player with a chance to get the recovery was a great example of what he is as a player. Going to be very hard to keep him off the floor with that type of court awareness always on display.
This is what I expected from Myles. I'll say more about him and the team after we've played 20 games. Go Pacers!

Even if we get the #1 pick next year the odds are 7 to 1 against us getting the first pick. As a bit of a gambler I pass on those odds.

Enjoyable game! This team has a lot more energy and moxie this year. Full credit to Myles for a superb game. He looked like a different player last night. He made the right decisions, he hit some tough interior shots, even his running looked quicker and without that weird gimp to it.

NO is a team with strong, physical big men. It was nice to see Turner, Smith, and Jackson hold their own physically. Not something I thought we'd see this year. Also, Heild is much more of an all-around player than I thought he would be.

I don't want Goliath. It's more fun to be David.

"He’s no shrinking violet when it comes to that kind of stuff."

                          - Rick Carlisle on how Kevin Pritchard responds to needed roster changes.

I mean if you wanna gamble on it I'll play. If the Pacers do not get a top 5-6 pick this year they will achieve the vaunted achievement of not winning a playoff series in a decade. You think otherwise? What kind of terms do you like?

Doesn't hurt to give themselves the best possible odds. This #1 pick is like no other

If it happens in the course of the season and trying to be a competitive team - then that's how it goes.

But to do things to intentionally try to be bad and all that crap - NOPE. That just builds a losing culture and mindset with the new kids.
