The Rules of Pacers Digest

Hello everyone,

Whether your are a long standing forum member or whether you have just registered today, it's a good idea to read and review the rules below so that you have a very good idea of what to expect when you come to Pacers Digest.

A quick note to new members: Your posts will not immediately show up when you make them. An administrator has to approve at least your first post before the forum software will later upgrade your account to the status of a fully-registered member. This usually happens within a couple of hours or so after your post(s) is/are approved, so you may need to be a little patient at first.

Why do we do this? So that it's more difficult for spammers (be they human or robot) to post, and so users who are banned cannot immediately re-register and start dousing people with verbal flames.

Below are the rules of Pacers Digest. After you have read them, you will have a very good sense of where we are coming from, what we expect, what we don't want to see, and how we react to things.

Rule #1

Pacers Digest is intended to be a place to discuss basketball without having to deal with the kinds of behaviors or attitudes that distract people from sticking with the discussion of the topics at hand. These unwanted distractions can come in many forms, and admittedly it can sometimes be tricky to pin down each and every kind that can rear its ugly head, but we feel that the following examples and explanations cover at least a good portion of that ground and should at least give people a pretty good idea of the kinds of things we actively discourage:

"Anyone who __________ is a liar / a fool / an idiot / a blind homer / has their head buried in the sand / a blind hater / doesn't know basketball / doesn't watch the games"

"People with intelligence will agree with me when I say that __________"

"Only stupid people think / believe / do ___________"

"I can't wait to hear something from PosterX when he/she sees that **insert a given incident or current event that will have probably upset or disappointed PosterX here**"

"He/she is just delusional"

"This thread is stupid / worthless / embarrassing"

"I'm going to take a moment to point and / laugh at PosterX / GroupOfPeopleY who thought / believed *insert though/belief here*"

"Remember when PosterX said OldCommentY that no longer looks good? "

In general, if a comment goes from purely on topic to something 'ad hominem' (personal jabs, personal shots, attacks, flames, however you want to call it, towards a person, or a group of people, or a given city/state/country of people), those are most likely going to be found intolerable.

We also dissuade passive aggressive behavior. This can be various things, but common examples include statements that are basically meant to imply someone is either stupid or otherwise incapable of holding a rational conversation. This can include (but is not limited to) laughing at someone's conclusions rather than offering an honest rebuttal, asking people what game they were watching, or another common problem is Poster X will say "that player isn't that bad" and then Poster Y will say something akin to "LOL you think that player is good". We're not going to tolerate those kinds of comments out of respect for the community at large and for the sake of trying to just have an honest conversation.

Now, does the above cover absolutely every single kind of distraction that is unwanted? Probably not, but you should by now have a good idea of the general types of things we will be discouraging. The above examples are meant to give you a good feel for / idea of what we're looking for. If something new or different than the above happens to come along and results in the same problem (that being, any other attitude or behavior that ultimately distracts from actually just discussing the topic at hand, or that is otherwise disrespectful to other posters), we can and we will take action to curb this as well, so please don't take this to mean that if you managed to technically avoid saying something exactly like one of the above examples that you are then somehow off the hook.

That all having been said, our goal is to do so in a generally kind and respectful way, and that doesn't mean the moment we see something we don't like that somebody is going to be suspended or banned, either. It just means that at the very least we will probably say something about it, quite possibly snipping out the distracting parts of the post in question while leaving alone the parts that are actually just discussing the topics, and in the event of a repeating or excessive problem, then we will start issuing infractions to try to further discourage further repeat problems, and if it just never seems to improve, then finally suspensions or bans will come into play. We would prefer it never went that far, and most of the time for most of our posters, it won't ever have to.

A slip up every once and a while is pretty normal, but, again, when it becomes repetitive or excessive, something will be done. Something occasional is probably going to be let go (within reason), but when it starts to become habitual or otherwise a pattern, odds are very good that we will step in.

There's always a small minority that like to push people's buttons and/or test their own boundaries with regards to the administrators, and in the case of someone acting like that, please be aware that this is not a court of law, but a private website run by people who are simply trying to do the right thing as they see it. If we feel that you are a special case that needs to be dealt with in an exceptional way because your behavior isn't explicitly mirroring one of our above examples of what we generally discourage, we can and we will take atypical action to prevent this from continuing if you are not cooperative with us.

Also please be aware that you will not be given a pass simply by claiming that you were 'only joking,' because quite honestly, when someone really is just joking, for one thing most people tend to pick up on the joke, including the person or group that is the target of the joke, and for another thing, in the event where an honest joke gets taken seriously and it upsets or angers someone, the person who is truly 'only joking' will quite commonly go out of his / her way to apologize and will try to mend fences. People who are dishonest about their statements being 'jokes' do not do so, and in turn that becomes a clear sign of what is really going on. It's nothing new.

In any case, quite frankly, the overall quality and health of the entire forum's community is more important than any one troublesome user will ever be, regardless of exactly how a problem is exhibiting itself, and if it comes down to us having to make a choice between you versus the greater health and happiness of the entire community, the community of this forum will win every time.

Lastly, there are also some posters, who are generally great contributors and do not otherwise cause any problems, who sometimes feel it's their place to provoke or to otherwise 'mess with' that small minority of people described in the last paragraph, and while we possibly might understand why you might feel you WANT to do something like that, the truth is we can't actually tolerate that kind of behavior from you any more than we can tolerate the behavior from them. So if we feel that you are trying to provoke those other posters into doing or saying something that will get themselves into trouble, then we will start to view you as a problem as well, because of the same reason as before: The overall health of the forum comes first, and trying to stir the pot with someone like that doesn't help, it just makes it worse. Some will simply disagree with this philosophy, but if so, then so be it because ultimately we have to do what we think is best so long as it's up to us.

If you see a problem that we haven't addressed, the best and most appropriate course for a forum member to take here is to look over to the left of the post in question. See underneath that poster's name, avatar, and other info, down where there's a little triangle with an exclamation point (!) in it? Click that. That allows you to report the post to the admins so we can definitely notice it and give it a look to see what we feel we should do about it. Beyond that, obviously it's human nature sometimes to want to speak up to the poster in question who has bothered you, but we would ask that you try to refrain from doing so because quite often what happens is two or more posters all start going back and forth about the original offending post, and suddenly the entire thread is off topic or otherwise derailed. So while the urge to police it yourself is understandable, it's best to just report it to us and let us handle it. Thank you!

All of the above is going to be subject to a case by case basis, but generally and broadly speaking, this should give everyone a pretty good idea of how things will typically / most often be handled.

Rule #2

If the actions of an administrator inspire you to make a comment, criticism, or express a concern about it, there is a wrong place and a couple of right places to do so.

The wrong place is to do so in the original thread in which the administrator took action. For example, if a post gets an infraction, or a post gets deleted, or a comment within a larger post gets clipped out, in a thread discussing Paul George, the wrong thing to do is to distract from the discussion of Paul George by adding your off topic thoughts on what the administrator did.

The right places to do so are:

A) Start a thread about the specific incident you want to talk about on the Feedback board. This way you are able to express yourself in an area that doesn't throw another thread off topic, and this way others can add their two cents as well if they wish, and additionally if there's something that needs to be said by the administrators, that is where they will respond to it.

B) Send a private message to the administrators, and they can respond to you that way.

If this is done the wrong way, those comments will be deleted, and if it's a repeating problem then it may also receive an infraction as well.

Rule #3

If a poster is bothering you, and an administrator has not or will not deal with that poster to the extent that you would prefer, you have a powerful tool at your disposal, one that has recently been upgraded and is now better than ever: The ability to ignore a user.

When you ignore a user, you will unfortunately still see some hints of their existence (nothing we can do about that), however, it does the following key things:

A) Any post they make will be completely invisible as you scroll through a thread.

B) The new addition to this feature: If someone QUOTES a user you are ignoring, you do not have to read who it was, or what that poster said, unless you go out of your way to click on a link to find out who it is and what they said.

To utilize this feature, from any page on Pacers Digest, scroll to the top of the page, look to the top right where it says 'Settings' and click that. From the settings page, look to the left side of the page where it says 'My Settings', and look down from there until you see 'Edit Ignore List' and click that. From here, it will say 'Add a Member to Your List...' Beneath that, click in the text box to the right of 'User Name', type in or copy & paste the username of the poster you are ignoring, and once their name is in the box, look over to the far right and click the 'Okay' button. All done!

Rule #4

Regarding infractions, currently they carry a value of one point each, and that point will expire in 31 days. If at any point a poster is carrying three points at the same time, that poster will be suspended until the oldest of the three points expires.

Rule #5

When you share or paste content or articles from another website, you must include the URL/link back to where you found it, who wrote it, and what website it's from. Said content will be removed if this doesn't happen.

An example:

If I copy and paste an article from the Indianapolis Star website, I would post something like this:

http://www.linktothearticlegoeshere.com/article
Title of the Article
Author's Name
Indianapolis Star

Rule #6

We cannot tolerate illegal videos on Pacers Digest. This means do not share any links to them, do not mention any websites that host them or link to them, do not describe how to find them in any way, and do not ask about them. Posts doing anything of the sort will be removed, the offenders will be contacted privately, and if the problem becomes habitual, you will be suspended, and if it still persists, you will probably be banned.

The legal means of watching or listening to NBA games are NBA League Pass Broadband (for US, or for International; both cost money) and NBA Audio League Pass (which is free). Look for them on NBA.com.

Rule #7

Provocative statements in a signature, or as an avatar, or as the 'tagline' beneath a poster's username (where it says 'Member' or 'Administrator' by default, if it is not altered) are an unwanted distraction that will more than likely be removed on sight. There can be shades of gray to this, but in general this could be something political or religious that is likely going to provoke or upset people, or otherwise something that is mean-spirited at the expense of a poster, a group of people, or a population.

It may or may not go without saying, but this goes for threads and posts as well, particularly when it's not made on the off-topic board (Market Square).

We do make exceptions if we feel the content is both innocuous and unlikely to cause social problems on the forum (such as wishing someone a Merry Christmas or a Happy Easter), and we also also make exceptions if such topics come up with regards to a sports figure (such as the Lance Stephenson situation bringing up discussions of domestic abuse and the law, or when Jason Collins came out as gay and how that lead to some discussion about gay rights).

However, once the discussion seems to be more/mostly about the political issues instead of the sports figure or his specific situation, the thread is usually closed.

Rule #8

We prefer self-restraint and/or modesty when making jokes or off topic comments in a sports discussion thread. They can be fun, but sometimes they derail or distract from a topic, and we don't want to see that happen. If we feel it is a problem, we will either delete or move those posts from the thread.

Rule #9

Generally speaking, we try to be a "PG-13" rated board, and we don't want to see sexual content or similarly suggestive content. Vulgarity is a more muddled issue, though again we prefer things to lean more towards "PG-13" than "R". If we feel things have gone too far, we will step in.

Rule #10

We like small signatures, not big signatures. The bigger the signature, the more likely it is an annoying or distracting signature.

Rule #11

Do not advertise anything without talking about it with the administrators first. This includes advertising with your signature, with your avatar, through private messaging, and/or by making a thread or post.

It also establishes that they are a management entity capable of hanging with the big boys. Had they just kept their own guy and then filled in with Rubio, I think it would've played into the whole "Pacers gonna Pacers" mentality. This was a big deal in the long term.
Very nice post. I can see how a lot of that is true. Good for Herb and whomever else was involved.

So I like the move, actually. But I stopped following at the point you said there would be some ripple across the league regarding this acquisition. The only ripple here might be whatever Pacer fans are drinking. The league as a whole does not care if the Pacers acquired Malcolm Brogdon. They consider the Pacers to be a pretty good team with a franchise player who has a bum knee. IOW, not going anywhere and Malcolm Brogdon isn't the answer for that.

But all things considered, the Pacers seemed to be on the offensive rather than defensive this off season. I think they did go with Plan A and last year they settled for Plan B or C.

Sounds like they were talking with Brogdon's agent a considerable time before free agency began. Of course, no-one is supposed to be doing any of that until the moratorium is lifted, but obviously, no-one actually adheres to that rule anymore.
Brogdon dropped a bomb during his summer league in-game interview tonight and confirmed the sign and trade discussions heated up "a few hours" before it actually happened. It turns out we didn't take a sharp left turn at 6:12pm, after Bogey left. Pritchard knew that Bogey leaving was a distinct possibility and even mentioned it in the days leading up to free agency.

That's been my mantra, as well. Trust the system. Until proven otherwise. I heard a stat a while back, the only team with a better defensive rating than the Indiana Pacers since Dan Burke's hire (cumulative since '99-2000) was the San Antonio Spurs. Dan Burke is an absolute guru of the defense. He received Bojan as a negative defender, by some accounts the very worst in the Association. The system Dan has put in place covers a multitude of sins, as it were. With Turner and Goga as the back-stops, the other players can feel more free to gamble for steals (remember Vic led the league in steals his most recent healthy season). I know the swing spot (the 3) is generally viewed as very important to a top-notch defense, but I genuinely believe that the coaching staff, generally, and Dan Burke, specifically, will have everyone ready to play their role in a top-3 defense.

I agree with others that our wing defense looks very suspect right now, but if you would have told someone a couple years ago that Bojan would be our primary wing defender, I don't think anyone would've been too impressed and that worked out well. Dan Burke is very good on the defensive end, I trust he can help Warren get to where he needs to be defensively.

Malcolm Brogdon reflects on his time with Bucks and is excited about the opportunity with Pacers
By Eric Nehm Jul 11, 2019

LAS VEGAS – As the Bucks entered free agency this summer, general manager Jon Horst cleared enough cap space to bring back the team’s three most important free agents: Malcolm Brogdon, Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton.

Now, less than two weeks later, we only know that Lopez and Middleton will return to Milwaukee next season. Brogdon will instead join the Pacers, who surrendered a first-round pick and two second-round picks in a sign-and-trade deal that also gave Brogdon a brand new four-year, $85 million contract.

It is the first significant payday for the 26-year-old combo guard since being selected by the Bucks with the 36th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Brogdon’s big move comes after an impressive third season in which he averaged 15.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

He also was just the eighth player in NBA history to finish a season shooting at least 40 percent from the 3-point arc, 50 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free-throw line.

With just three years in the NBA, Brogdon was a restricted free agent, allowing him limited freedom to search for a deal with a different team. The Bucks could simply match any offer sheet made to him.

“It was stressful,” Brogdon said this week during summer-league games. “Not knowing where you were going to go, not knowing who was going to come to the table and drive the price up.

“But for me, it worked out. I went from one great team to another. I’m really excited to be with the Pacers.”

The sign-and-trade surprised many, including Brogdon’s teammates in Milwaukee.

“I thought they were going to find a way to keep everybody together,” Middleton said. “They weren’t and that’s the way things happen sometimes, but bringing George (Hill) back, bringing Brook (Lopez) back, that’s huge.

“Just to try to keep other pieces of the team together rather than having changeover like a lot of the other teams are doing.”

The impact of losing Brogdon on the floor is quite obvious, but Bucks guard Pat Connaughton believes the impact will be felt in other ways.

“Malcolm was probably one of my closest friends on the team, so losing him, it hurts a lot,” Connaughton said. “Both from a team standpoint from what he can do and from a personal standpoint because of the camaraderie he brought to the team.”

For Brogdon though, a new team offered opportunities he did not have in Milwaukee. In his introductory news conference in Indiana, Brogdon said he believed his best position was point guard. The answer seemed a bit out of place because he hadn’t played the position much in Milwaukee outside of his rookie season under Jason Kidd.

Since the Bucks traded for Eric Bledsoe in November 2017, Brogdon has been used almost exclusively as a shooting guard and he has excelled in the role. Before missing the final month of the season with a plantar fascia tear in his right foot, Brogdon had started all 64 games.

“I definitely wanted to do it more, but what I realized when Bledsoe got there is that it worked for me,” Brogdon told The Athletic Wisconsin of his desire to play more point guard in Milwaukee. “Playing shooting guard, playing off the ball, it worked for me. It worked for my teammates and I wanted to win at the end of the day, so that’s what was good for me.”

Bledsoe’s three-year extension this past March essentially eliminated any possibility of Brogdon starting at point guard in Milwaukee in the near future with Bledsoe much better served on the ball as opposed to spotting up as a shooter.

Brogdon never voiced a desire to play point guard publicly in the last two seasons, a nod to his high character and desire to be a part of a winning culture. But as he discusses his move to Indiana more, it has become obvious not getting a chance to play the position bothered him.

Malcolm Brogdon is now a member of the Pacers after a sign-and-trade deal with the Bucks. (Ron Hoskins / Getty Images)

During the news conference in Indianapolis, Kevin Pritchard, the Pacers president of basketball operations, praised Pacers owner Herb Simon for getting on the phone and helping work out the deal with one of the Bucks’ owners. Brogdon revealed that owner was Marc Lasry.

“I was extremely grateful to Marc Lasry,” Brogdon said. “I think he was the key in all this, sort of putting it together, signing off on the deal and really allowing the Pacers to acquire me.”

With owners on each side involved, both teams were able to work out a deal that kept the Pacers from tying up their free-agency period with an offer sheet for up to 10 days, allowing them to sign Brogdon without fear of the Bucks matching. For that freedom, the Pacers paid a hefty price by giving up draft picks, something they didn’t need to do if an offer sheet was extended.

The assets could certainly help the Bucks in the future, but the current roster may not be as good as last year’s team. The subsequent moves they’ve made to replace Brogdon simply don’t add up to the player they lost, and the Bucks understand how difficult it will be to replace him.

“Fortunately and unfortunately, a little bit of both, we had to try to figure out how to play without him this year and I think we did a really good job when he was out,” Connaughton said. “He did a really good job of empowering us guys to step up and make sure that we build our role.”

Connaughton will be part of a group of players that attempt to replace Brogdon, as will Sterling Brown, Donte DiVincenzo, George Hill and Wesley Matthews Jr. That group will have their work cut out for them, but not just because of Brogdon’s impressive stats. His play contributed to a team that ultimately compiled the league’s best regular-season record by winning 60 games.

“We were winners, man,” Brogdon said, when asked what he’ll remember about Milwaukee. “We were winners. And we did it with high-character guys.”

And that will be how the Bucks are judged and how they manage to replace Brogdon next season.

Some of the fans comments are interesting

Just curious, did anyone ask if he had any other issues with Milwaukee, either the city or the team? He seemed ambivalent at best with staying when asked about free agency near the end of the year. If he didn't want to be here, I'm okay with him leaving. Good player, but I'm not sure he's as good as he thinks he is at point guard. Going to struggle defensively against the really quick, elite point guards.

@John F. It was just a short chat I had with him at Summer League. He seemed pretty complimentary of Milwaukee in his introductory presser with the Pacers.

Also, I would agree regarding him guarding point guards.

@AJ T. I don't think he can. He died on pick-and-rolls far too often when he was assigned to point guards.

At least ownership did right by him and expedited the process.

Sounds like position was a tad more important to him than total $?

Brian S. That was certainly what I got from the conversation. He mentioned both things though. I would put his desire to play point guard above his desire to get paid, but his "drive the price up" comment would suggest, the $ still mattered quite a bit.

Brogden is heavy into his charity work which I appreciate and signing that contract helps in that regard. I think the Bucks did the right thing by not signing or matching that contract. He will be missed but the Bucks will be ok.

It's odd to me that this is spun as "owner does right by player" when it should be "owner saw chance to not pay the tax, blames it on him wanting to play PG"....

I hope I am wrong, but I can't help but think the Bucks will regret this. It's not up for debate; the team is worse now. The only way they are not is if multiple players go from spot minutes to playoff contributors. In a season where the Bucks have their best chance to win a title (no Durant, no Thompson, many teams in flux), they are betting on end of bench players taking big leaps. I am not a fan of that bet.

Seems like those were Malcolm’s words so unless you’re claiming that he’s spinning this I’m unclear how it can be considered spin.

They’re worse on paper, no doubt. But I don’t think they’re banking on end of the bench guys. They’re banking on Giannis continuing on the arc he’s established throughout his career. There’s more coming to his game.

@Bob S. Not only Giannis, but lots of guys on the team are young enough to still have upside... And second year in Bud system should also benefit players, plus Bud should have learned some things to do differently after the Toronto series , etc.... But I really think Hill, Sterling, and Donte can overall make up for loss of Brogdon.. And as I often mention, we shall see how well Brogdon feet and legs hold up in Indiana...

@AJ T. Maybe it hasn't been quite clear enough, but I've said repeatedly since the Brogdon deal that the Bucks are worse for it. Their team simply isn't as good as it was last season and I don't think you'd get any disagreement from anyone in that regard.

Also, I explicitly framed their entire offseason in terms of willingness to pay the tax. The free agency primer made it very clear the Bucks either had the chance to bring the big 3 FA back and pay the tax or not pay the tax and lose one.

@Eric Nehm that's the frustrating part. Ownership claimed they were willing to invest, everyone knew that was the scenario (paying tax or losing 1), and then they didn't do it

@Bob S. "spun" was probably too strong. I meant the focus of the piece was on that. I am very frustrated as a Bucks fan. The ownership stating they were willing to invest was a straight up lie. If not now, when?

                  ^ SO MUCH THIS

Bucks are absolutely worse without Brogdon and more importantly, ownership saying they would go into the luxury and then not carrying through, they're also quickly deteriorating any trust w/the fans at ever taking their word seriously.

Also, and let's be perfectly honest - only way to win a ring nowadays for a team like MIL is to go into the luxury -- what kind of message does this offseason send to Giannis? Does ownership actually think he's going to stay just because we kept Middleton, who might be his friend but beyond that is a fringe top 20 player?

Biggest fear is Giannis walks and/or demands a trade and all we're left with is nothing to show for Middleton's contract.

@Eric Nehm The Bucks also never really played at full strength last season when you factor in the timing around the trades and Brogdon's injury. In some aspects, we don't really know if the full strength Bucks were better on the court, although they certainly were on paper. Re-inserting Brogdon back into the team in the middle of the playoffs was probably a bigger challenge for the team than we've given it credit for.

This is one of the reasons they didn’t want to commit that money to him. I believe if it was closer to 15 mil a year, he would still be a Buck. I also believe he wanted out of Milwaukee.

@Cordon G. glad to hear that .. I think this whole thing about him not liking Milwaukee is folks looking for a story and just trying to push a narrative for their own purposes... He did acknowledge the fact most of us know about Milwaukee's reputation for segregation, but I think only because he was asked about it, so he gave an honest answer..

@Joe S. Yeah, I'm right there with yah - seemed like a very forced narrative because of Brogdon's (entirely valid) criticism of Milwaukee's segregation. How people ever extended that into "I don't like playing in Milwaukee" is completely illogical.

@Alex S. In Horst we Trust, and let us remember the team in October is likely not the same as the team come January or February or whenever the trade deadline is... Maybe I have too much faith in guys like Sterling and Donte making year 2 to 3 and year 1 to 2 leaps, and in what Wes Matthews and his veteran savvy and presence will bring to the team ?? Not to mention having Hill from day 1 to gel with the team...

The fact Lasry brokered the Brogdon move isn't a good sign...could actually be the most important detail in the article. In addition to going back on their word about going into the luxury to keep the team together, not sure if Horst will want to stay here for too long if ownership starts meddling even more.

Either way, we'll see if they make any additional moves...and color me preemptively disappointed if they do not.

Eric, I just don't see us being worse without Brogdon. The Bucks now have a handful of gifted off-ball players who will get more opportunities to develop and contribute. Add to that Brogdon's 60 games lost to injury over the past two seasons, and I don't see that Milwaukee is worse off without him.

I understand Brogdon's 40-50-90 was impressive, but, George Hill had very close to those numbers just two seasons ago (46-51-85), he goes to the FT line at a higher rate is a better defender. Sterling Brown was 45-50-77 through all 4 years while at SMU, while his Defensive Box +/- was far superior, as was Pat Connaughton's & Wes Matthews' DBPM. Consider all 4 of these players remaining with or joining the Bucks roster are true volume shooters, where Brogdon was not. We haven't even brought Donte into this equation.

I do not see us as worse at all, especially not adamantly so. I believe we might be a better team, and Milwaukee was able to add/retain better talent at positions of need. Brogdon also has foot problems both right and left, that have plagued him since his days at Virginia. Those tend to be chronic conditions that rarely get back to normal. With the 3 additional picks, it is my view that the Bucks clearly won in this deal, as much as I like Malcolm Brogdon. He will be missed, but the Bucks will be just fine.

@Timothy M. I've written in the past that his shooting is not the most important thing about his offensive contribution. He was the only driver the team had outside of Antetokounmpo and Bledsoe and that is significant for a 5-out dribble drive offense.

Unless you think Matthews is a better player than Brogdon, I don't know how you can believe this team might be better. Their wing rotation is literally the exact same as last year except you're switching Matthews for Brogdon.

Pacers fan here. I'm thrilled to get Brogdon. Darren Collison was a good point guard, but Brogdon is a clear letter grade higher than DC. Indiana's ceiling raised with Brogdon not only because of his efficiency, but because everything about him screams team player who wants to empower others.

Bledsoe cannot shoot the ball. Yes, he plays D but this team needs shooters. They gave the money to wrong guy. Bledsoe already hearing the negative from fans about his poor shooting in playoffs and he will become the fall guy next season as he fails to put the ball in hole after D collapses on the Greek Freak. Brogdan was their 2nd best player and their smartest player. He will be missed.

                  @ALLAN L. Bledsoe had a 48.4 FG% in 2018-2019.

                  Khris Middleton? 44.1 FG% in 2018-2019.

In fact, Bledsoe has a higher FG% for his career than Middleton.

No one's arguing that Bled has some mental issues to figure out in the postseason but to say he can't shoot is ridiculous.

More importantly though, all the constant Bledsoe hate just needs to stop - he's an integral part of Bud's offense, even more so after losing Brogdon. And always keep in mind Bled may have sacrificed up to 8 figures to stay in Milwaukee because he likes it here -- can you name the last time that happened?

@ALLAN L. Bucks lived and died by the 3 as a team against TOR - 31% isn't going to cut it.

Either way, pretty telling folks like you sum up Bled's entire worth by the fact he's not lights out from 3 - 1st team all NBA guards don't just fall from the sky, especially onto small market teams like MIL. And again, Bled would easily be making Brogdon's money or more if he had decided to test free agency - any way you cut it, signing Bled to that deal was a great move by the Bucks.

As someone who is coming to this article from the Pacers side, it seems he will have more flexibility with this team.

I don't know much about Milwaukee's makeup, other than what I see when Pacers play them, but based on the article, Bledsoe is more of a pure point guard. Even though Brogdon will be the Pacers starting PG on paper, once Oladipo gets back, I'm sure those two will be sharing time at point. Especially when you get into clutch scenarios, Vic will most likely have the ball in his hands. Brogdon's 3 % will pay dividends at those times.

As far as his defense, he seems to be coming to the Pacers at a decent level already. With the way this team is coached, and the core returning guys, defense is a priority. They have one of the best defensive assistants in the game, so they have a way of elevating everyone defensively. They took Bogey from marginal defender to someone who did a reasonable job on LeBron in the playoffs.

As a Pacers fan, I'm excited by this pick-up!

I believe it was a Zach Harper article on here that said in part “it doesn’t sound like he wants to be there long term” (referencing brogdon/mke). Just wanted someone closer to the situation to dive deeper on that comment. If you tell me it was primarily because Brogdon wanted to play pg/ the money then I’ll just take you at your word. But I’ve been in locker rooms and sometimes there is more to the story (mo williams v. mike redd for example) Even Brogdon’s presser was quite telling imo. No biggie just wanted tougher questions to be asked.

Everything I've heard from all parties involved are pretty much exactly what Zach laid out. Playing point guard and getting a payday were the priorities. The other storyline about he doesn't like the city of Milwaukee or whatever that narrative has become among fans was not why he wanted a change of scenery.

Brogdon’s defense against speedy point guards will be something to watch. Oladipo should be able to handle them when he’s healthy.

I care more about his ball handling and ability to lead an offense even if he struggles with quick point guards. That's literally who Oladipo would always switch on so I'm less concerned.

Checked out Brogdon's combine measurements after seeing him palm that ball and the dude has some massive meat hooks for any position, let alone a guard. He tied for 2nd in his draft class with 2 centers, Poeltl and Swanigan. That probably explains why he can sneaky dunk on people with either hand even though he's just an average leaper.
