The Rules of Pacers Digest

Hello everyone,

Whether your are a long standing forum member or whether you have just registered today, it's a good idea to read and review the rules below so that you have a very good idea of what to expect when you come to Pacers Digest.

A quick note to new members: Your posts will not immediately show up when you make them. An administrator has to approve at least your first post before the forum software will later upgrade your account to the status of a fully-registered member. This usually happens within a couple of hours or so after your post(s) is/are approved, so you may need to be a little patient at first.

Why do we do this? So that it's more difficult for spammers (be they human or robot) to post, and so users who are banned cannot immediately re-register and start dousing people with verbal flames.

Below are the rules of Pacers Digest. After you have read them, you will have a very good sense of where we are coming from, what we expect, what we don't want to see, and how we react to things.

Rule #1

Pacers Digest is intended to be a place to discuss basketball without having to deal with the kinds of behaviors or attitudes that distract people from sticking with the discussion of the topics at hand. These unwanted distractions can come in many forms, and admittedly it can sometimes be tricky to pin down each and every kind that can rear its ugly head, but we feel that the following examples and explanations cover at least a good portion of that ground and should at least give people a pretty good idea of the kinds of things we actively discourage:

"Anyone who __________ is a liar / a fool / an idiot / a blind homer / has their head buried in the sand / a blind hater / doesn't know basketball / doesn't watch the games"

"People with intelligence will agree with me when I say that __________"

"Only stupid people think / believe / do ___________"

"I can't wait to hear something from PosterX when he/she sees that **insert a given incident or current event that will have probably upset or disappointed PosterX here**"

"He/she is just delusional"

"This thread is stupid / worthless / embarrassing"

"I'm going to take a moment to point and / laugh at PosterX / GroupOfPeopleY who thought / believed *insert though/belief here*"

"Remember when PosterX said OldCommentY that no longer looks good? "

In general, if a comment goes from purely on topic to something 'ad hominem' (personal jabs, personal shots, attacks, flames, however you want to call it, towards a person, or a group of people, or a given city/state/country of people), those are most likely going to be found intolerable.

We also dissuade passive aggressive behavior. This can be various things, but common examples include statements that are basically meant to imply someone is either stupid or otherwise incapable of holding a rational conversation. This can include (but is not limited to) laughing at someone's conclusions rather than offering an honest rebuttal, asking people what game they were watching, or another common problem is Poster X will say "that player isn't that bad" and then Poster Y will say something akin to "LOL you think that player is good". We're not going to tolerate those kinds of comments out of respect for the community at large and for the sake of trying to just have an honest conversation.

Now, does the above cover absolutely every single kind of distraction that is unwanted? Probably not, but you should by now have a good idea of the general types of things we will be discouraging. The above examples are meant to give you a good feel for / idea of what we're looking for. If something new or different than the above happens to come along and results in the same problem (that being, any other attitude or behavior that ultimately distracts from actually just discussing the topic at hand, or that is otherwise disrespectful to other posters), we can and we will take action to curb this as well, so please don't take this to mean that if you managed to technically avoid saying something exactly like one of the above examples that you are then somehow off the hook.

That all having been said, our goal is to do so in a generally kind and respectful way, and that doesn't mean the moment we see something we don't like that somebody is going to be suspended or banned, either. It just means that at the very least we will probably say something about it, quite possibly snipping out the distracting parts of the post in question while leaving alone the parts that are actually just discussing the topics, and in the event of a repeating or excessive problem, then we will start issuing infractions to try to further discourage further repeat problems, and if it just never seems to improve, then finally suspensions or bans will come into play. We would prefer it never went that far, and most of the time for most of our posters, it won't ever have to.

A slip up every once and a while is pretty normal, but, again, when it becomes repetitive or excessive, something will be done. Something occasional is probably going to be let go (within reason), but when it starts to become habitual or otherwise a pattern, odds are very good that we will step in.

There's always a small minority that like to push people's buttons and/or test their own boundaries with regards to the administrators, and in the case of someone acting like that, please be aware that this is not a court of law, but a private website run by people who are simply trying to do the right thing as they see it. If we feel that you are a special case that needs to be dealt with in an exceptional way because your behavior isn't explicitly mirroring one of our above examples of what we generally discourage, we can and we will take atypical action to prevent this from continuing if you are not cooperative with us.

Also please be aware that you will not be given a pass simply by claiming that you were 'only joking,' because quite honestly, when someone really is just joking, for one thing most people tend to pick up on the joke, including the person or group that is the target of the joke, and for another thing, in the event where an honest joke gets taken seriously and it upsets or angers someone, the person who is truly 'only joking' will quite commonly go out of his / her way to apologize and will try to mend fences. People who are dishonest about their statements being 'jokes' do not do so, and in turn that becomes a clear sign of what is really going on. It's nothing new.

In any case, quite frankly, the overall quality and health of the entire forum's community is more important than any one troublesome user will ever be, regardless of exactly how a problem is exhibiting itself, and if it comes down to us having to make a choice between you versus the greater health and happiness of the entire community, the community of this forum will win every time.

Lastly, there are also some posters, who are generally great contributors and do not otherwise cause any problems, who sometimes feel it's their place to provoke or to otherwise 'mess with' that small minority of people described in the last paragraph, and while we possibly might understand why you might feel you WANT to do something like that, the truth is we can't actually tolerate that kind of behavior from you any more than we can tolerate the behavior from them. So if we feel that you are trying to provoke those other posters into doing or saying something that will get themselves into trouble, then we will start to view you as a problem as well, because of the same reason as before: The overall health of the forum comes first, and trying to stir the pot with someone like that doesn't help, it just makes it worse. Some will simply disagree with this philosophy, but if so, then so be it because ultimately we have to do what we think is best so long as it's up to us.

If you see a problem that we haven't addressed, the best and most appropriate course for a forum member to take here is to look over to the left of the post in question. See underneath that poster's name, avatar, and other info, down where there's a little triangle with an exclamation point (!) in it? Click that. That allows you to report the post to the admins so we can definitely notice it and give it a look to see what we feel we should do about it. Beyond that, obviously it's human nature sometimes to want to speak up to the poster in question who has bothered you, but we would ask that you try to refrain from doing so because quite often what happens is two or more posters all start going back and forth about the original offending post, and suddenly the entire thread is off topic or otherwise derailed. So while the urge to police it yourself is understandable, it's best to just report it to us and let us handle it. Thank you!

All of the above is going to be subject to a case by case basis, but generally and broadly speaking, this should give everyone a pretty good idea of how things will typically / most often be handled.

Rule #2

If the actions of an administrator inspire you to make a comment, criticism, or express a concern about it, there is a wrong place and a couple of right places to do so.

The wrong place is to do so in the original thread in which the administrator took action. For example, if a post gets an infraction, or a post gets deleted, or a comment within a larger post gets clipped out, in a thread discussing Paul George, the wrong thing to do is to distract from the discussion of Paul George by adding your off topic thoughts on what the administrator did.

The right places to do so are:

A) Start a thread about the specific incident you want to talk about on the Feedback board. This way you are able to express yourself in an area that doesn't throw another thread off topic, and this way others can add their two cents as well if they wish, and additionally if there's something that needs to be said by the administrators, that is where they will respond to it.

B) Send a private message to the administrators, and they can respond to you that way.

If this is done the wrong way, those comments will be deleted, and if it's a repeating problem then it may also receive an infraction as well.

Rule #3

If a poster is bothering you, and an administrator has not or will not deal with that poster to the extent that you would prefer, you have a powerful tool at your disposal, one that has recently been upgraded and is now better than ever: The ability to ignore a user.

When you ignore a user, you will unfortunately still see some hints of their existence (nothing we can do about that), however, it does the following key things:

A) Any post they make will be completely invisible as you scroll through a thread.

B) The new addition to this feature: If someone QUOTES a user you are ignoring, you do not have to read who it was, or what that poster said, unless you go out of your way to click on a link to find out who it is and what they said.

To utilize this feature, from any page on Pacers Digest, scroll to the top of the page, look to the top right where it says 'Settings' and click that. From the settings page, look to the left side of the page where it says 'My Settings', and look down from there until you see 'Edit Ignore List' and click that. From here, it will say 'Add a Member to Your List...' Beneath that, click in the text box to the right of 'User Name', type in or copy & paste the username of the poster you are ignoring, and once their name is in the box, look over to the far right and click the 'Okay' button. All done!

Rule #4

Regarding infractions, currently they carry a value of one point each, and that point will expire in 31 days. If at any point a poster is carrying three points at the same time, that poster will be suspended until the oldest of the three points expires.

Rule #5

When you share or paste content or articles from another website, you must include the URL/link back to where you found it, who wrote it, and what website it's from. Said content will be removed if this doesn't happen.

An example:

If I copy and paste an article from the Indianapolis Star website, I would post something like this:

http://www.linktothearticlegoeshere.com/article
Title of the Article
Author's Name
Indianapolis Star

Rule #6

We cannot tolerate illegal videos on Pacers Digest. This means do not share any links to them, do not mention any websites that host them or link to them, do not describe how to find them in any way, and do not ask about them. Posts doing anything of the sort will be removed, the offenders will be contacted privately, and if the problem becomes habitual, you will be suspended, and if it still persists, you will probably be banned.

The legal means of watching or listening to NBA games are NBA League Pass Broadband (for US, or for International; both cost money) and NBA Audio League Pass (which is free). Look for them on NBA.com.

Rule #7

Provocative statements in a signature, or as an avatar, or as the 'tagline' beneath a poster's username (where it says 'Member' or 'Administrator' by default, if it is not altered) are an unwanted distraction that will more than likely be removed on sight. There can be shades of gray to this, but in general this could be something political or religious that is likely going to provoke or upset people, or otherwise something that is mean-spirited at the expense of a poster, a group of people, or a population.

It may or may not go without saying, but this goes for threads and posts as well, particularly when it's not made on the off-topic board (Market Square).

We do make exceptions if we feel the content is both innocuous and unlikely to cause social problems on the forum (such as wishing someone a Merry Christmas or a Happy Easter), and we also also make exceptions if such topics come up with regards to a sports figure (such as the Lance Stephenson situation bringing up discussions of domestic abuse and the law, or when Jason Collins came out as gay and how that lead to some discussion about gay rights).

However, once the discussion seems to be more/mostly about the political issues instead of the sports figure or his specific situation, the thread is usually closed.

Rule #8

We prefer self-restraint and/or modesty when making jokes or off topic comments in a sports discussion thread. They can be fun, but sometimes they derail or distract from a topic, and we don't want to see that happen. If we feel it is a problem, we will either delete or move those posts from the thread.

Rule #9

Generally speaking, we try to be a "PG-13" rated board, and we don't want to see sexual content or similarly suggestive content. Vulgarity is a more muddled issue, though again we prefer things to lean more towards "PG-13" than "R". If we feel things have gone too far, we will step in.

Rule #10

We like small signatures, not big signatures. The bigger the signature, the more likely it is an annoying or distracting signature.

Rule #11

Do not advertise anything without talking about it with the administrators first. This includes advertising with your signature, with your avatar, through private messaging, and/or by making a thread or post.

  • Indiana Fever 2010 Regular Season Thread

Thought it might be nice to have one big regular season thread for the Feverwhere we can post about whatever games, players, or trends interest us.

    Fever defeat NY Liberty 78-73

This was a good game, Zellous was excellent on both sides of the floor, Catch had an elite all-around game, low turnovers, and Katie Douglas was out there shooting 3's well beyond the NBA line. We've outscored our last two opponents 60-34 in the paint.

Little worried about the injury to Tully. Hope it doesn't keep her out more than a game or two.

    by Tom Rietmann | June 5, 2010
It was a fiercely contested and physical game – perfect, in other words, for the unflinching style of Shavonte Zellous.

Zellous, Indiana's newest player, turned in a second half to be remembered Saturday night as she led the Fever to a 78-73 victory over the New York Liberty at Conseco Fieldhouse. She led the Fever in scoring as well as tough-mindedness, especially in the second half. Nineteen of her game-high 23 points came after halftime, including nine of Indiana's first 10 in the fourth quarter, as the Fever pulled away from a stubborn New York team.

“I like some aggression,” said Zellous, acquired three games ago from Tulsa for a 2011 second-round draft pick. “I enjoyed this game.”

And Fever coach Lin Dunn enjoyed having Zellous on hand to help the Fever move to 4-3 ahead of Sunday's game at Minnesota.

“I guess you can see why we're excited to get Shavonte Zellous,” Dunn said. “She stepped up big for us off the bench. I thought she did a really good job defending, too.”

Zellous, a second-year player from Pittsburgh who can substitute at both guard positions and small forward, hit 10-of-12 free throws, including six in the fourth quarter. Her slashing, driving style gets her to the line often. She has connected on 18-of-21 free throws since joining the Fever.

“As the days go by, I'm getting more comfortable with everything,” said Zellous, whose 23 points were the fourth-highest total ever for a Fever player off the bench. “With the team, the schemes, everything, I'm just feeling more at home.”

New York (2-4) sliced Indiana's lead to 74-70 when Cappie Poindexter hit a 3-pointer with 23.7 seconds left.

But then Zellous, after taking an inadvertent elbow in the face, extended the lead to six with a pair of free throws. Ebony Hoffman added two more free throws after New York made it 76-73 with 13.1 seconds left.

Counting the playoffs, it was Indiana's 15th straight home victory in the series against New York.
“I thought we showed a lot of poise and toughness,” Dunn said. “You knew they were going to make a run. They're too talented. We were relentless in our desire not to lose.”

While Zellous controlled the second half for Indiana, Katie Douglas led the Fever in the first 20 minutes. She hit 4-of-6 three pointers before halftime and ended with a 5-of-9 mark from the arc and 19 points. Douglas has hit 11-of-19 treys in the last three games after a slow start.

“I've just gotten into a little of a rhythm,” Douglas said. “It feels good. Teammates are doing a great job of finding me, and I'm trying to find the soft spots and get them in.”

However, it was a fast-break layup by Douglas that brought a crowd of 8,090 to its feet in the third quarter.

With 7 minutes left, Tamika Catchings dribbled full-speed toward the basket when she saw Douglas trailing her. Catchings flipped a no-look pass and Douglas scooped it in.

“I saw Katie coming out of the corner of my eye,” said Catchings, who had a game-high nine assists to go with 14 points and seven rebounds. “She was wide open and I got her the ball.”

Douglas and Catchings played for the same team in Turkey this past winter, a time they used to enhance their compatibility on the floor.

“I think that just goes back to us being in sync,” Douglas said. “She had a tremendous game with assists. We just kind of made eye contact on that play, and it worked from there. We played all offseason together and I think we have a connection. It definitely was an awesome look.”

In the final minute of the game, Fever point guard Tully Bevilaqua limped to the bench. With starter Briann January already out with a sprained knee, the Fever are in danger of being without a true point guard. Douglas, normally a shooting guard, has been seeing a lot of action at the point because of January's injury.

“I hope it's a minor sprain; (it's) some kind of foot sprain,” Dunn said Bevilaqua's injury. “The good news is, you're seeing that Zellous is also helping us some there (at point guard). We're giving her as many minutes as we can so we have another combo guard.”

    FEVER TIDBITS

-- January, who has missed three games with her knee injury, continues to improve, Dunn said. January could possibly return by next weekend's two games against Connecticut.

Jessica Davenport is a beast. The one bright spot when everyone else shot poorly, she had her way with Connecticut tonight. Unfortunately, our defense was also terrible, especially in the 4th, so her great night came in a loss.

It was also good to see Bri at least get back into things after the injury. You could tell she was a little rusty and tentative, but I think that's to be expected as she tests out that knee.

Overall, not a good game for the Fever tonight, but should be a different game when these teams meet again on Sunday. Those shots should drop, adjustments will be made to the defense, and hopefully we can pull out a win.

tough game, but Connecticut has some good players, too. Tina Charles is a beast in the WNBA and Renee Montgomery is a crazy good PG. I think we'll get the next game against them, though. Great job to Jessica Davenport, though, as she just couldn't miss!

Watching today's Sun - Fever game. The Fever were in trouble, they lost a 20 pt lead but Catch put them on her back in the 4th quarter - 12 pts, 8 rebounds in the quarter. There was a sequence where she had a monster block, rebounded the ball and took it down to the other end and got fouled. 18 pts, 13 reb, 4 steals for the game. I hope those of you who live in Indy are going out to see this woman play. Catch alone is worth the price of admission. I think she's already got another Defensive Player of the Year nod locked up (too bad that seems to keep her from winning MVP).

Tonight was one of the few times I've ever seen Tamika give an official a serious stare down after a bad call, it was hilarious.

I need to go look at a box score, but Catch was also responsible for a number of really horrible turnovers on bad passes. I don't know how many turnovers there actually were, but I was thinking that she could have a triple double on pts, rebs, and turnovers...

            Bill,

You're absolutely right about that one. She had 5 turnovers and most of them were of the WTF variety. All was forgiven (for me, at least) after that 4th quarter performance. We lose without Catch turning up the defensive intensity and making it her personal responsibility to score.

Also, props to Tammy Sutton-Brown (who I'd taken to calling Charmin-Brown for her soft play last year) - she played good, physical (!) defense on Tina Charles. Charles came in averaging 15.9 and she had 2 points last night.

Just read in an article about WNBA dads (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/news?slug=ap-wnbadads) that Catch is "poised to become the first WNBA player with 4,500 points, 2,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists."

Sutton-Brown Makes History, Fever Drops Dream

                By Tom Rietmann

Two victories over WNBA leaders in a three-day stretch gave the surging Indiana Fever a reason to feel a sense of attainment. But if that was the players' reaction Saturday night after a 94-91 squeaker over Atlanta, they did a nice job of concealing it.

“We don't really have the time or energy to celebrate,” guard Katie Douglas, who collected 17 points and five assists, said as she iced her aching knees. “We did what we were supposed to do. We took care of our home court.”

The Fever grabbed a 17-point first-half lead over the Dream and then held off the Eastern Conference leaders in the final 10.4 seconds with three key free throws and a timely defensive play by Tamika Catchings. The victory, coming on the heels of an important win over West-leading Seattle on Thursday, boosted Indiana's record to 8-4, a half-game behind the Dream.

But Indiana, which has won six straight home games, will now say goodbye to Conseco Fieldhouse until July 8. The Fever plays four straight games on the road, starting next Friday at Seattle.

“Sure, it was a good week for us,” said Indiana center Tammy Sutton-Brown, whose season-high 16 points put her over the 3,000 mark and made her the fifth player in WNBA history with 3,000 points, 1,500 rebounds and 400 blocks. “We can celebrate tonight -- enjoy it and have some fun and have dinner. But then, it's back to work on Monday.”

The Fever took a 42-25 lead over Atlanta midway through the second quarter. Indiana's reserves did the damage, building a 19-8 run. Jessica Davenport totaled 10 points on the night, and Briann January added nine.
“Once again our bench showed why they're the best bench in the league.” said Catchings, who had 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.

None of Catchings' steals was bigger than one with 10.4 seconds left in the game. Atlanta, shooting 60 percent (9-of-15), outscored Indiana 28-19 in the third quarter. The Dream kept the heat turned up in the fourth, too, and had the deficit at only two, 91-89, in the final minute. But after Atlanta attempted to set up a play during a timeout with 21.2 seconds left, Catchings jumped in the lane and intercepted a pass by Iziane Castro Marques.

“I saw it develop because we got burned like five times during the game,” Catchings said. “I knew whoever was driving in didn't really want to shoot it. They wanted to pass to the post underneath.”

Catchings strategy? “Stay low, sneak in and get it.” she said.

Two free throws by Douglas and one by Ebony Hoffman were sandwiched around a pair by Castro Marques, making the score 94-91 with 7.1 seconds left. Atlanta's Shalee Lehning failed to connect on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

“We knew when we got ahead at half (55-41) that we were still going to get a great shot back from Atlanta,” Fever coach Lin Dunn said. “They're so talented and good. They came out like gangbusters in the second half.”

Hoffman, who had 12 points and five rebounds, echoed her coach's words.

“Atlanta has a great team,” said Hoffman, whose 3-pointer to beat the shot clock with 3:45 left gave Indiana some breathing room at 84-79. “They're fast, athletic, big and strong. You're not going to stop them all the time. You just hope you do the right thing at the right time. In the second half, they started getting shots. I think we held our composure and stayed with it to get the 'W.' ”

Indiana's 93 points represented a season high. The Fever needed the offensive output to ward off an Atlanta team that hit 53.6 percent (30-of-56) from the field.

Indiana forced 23 turnovers by the Dream, which led to 35 Fever points.

Indiana has won eight of its last 10 games, but Dunn sees plenty of room for improvement.

“We certainly haven't peaked,” the coach said. “We're not playing A-plus basketball all the time. We still have a lot of room to grow. I think that's a good sign. We're not where we need to be and we're still winning.”

                FEVER TIDBITS
-- Atlanta received a big night from Sancho Lyttle, who totaled 20 points and 20 rebounds. Angel McCoughtry and Castro Marques each scored 21. Lyttle's 20 rebounds were the most ever against the Fever, and a Conseco Fieldhouse record by a WNBA player.

-- Coach Lin Dunn on Sutton-Brown's statistical accomplishments during her nine years in the WNBA: “Not only has she done a great job defensively, now she's in a very elite club. It doesn't surprise me a bit.”

-- Dunn said a key factor in the game was Indiana's refusal to give up the lead, even when Atlanta was playing its best in the second half.

Katie Douglas just straight DOMINATED the three-point contest. She had 24 (out of 30) and the others had like 12 at most. What a beast. Her follow through is perfection.

I wasn't able to watch any of the All-Star stuff today - do you know why Catch played so few minutes? She didn't get hurt, did she?

Fever Hot Heading into All-Star Break
by Cliff Brunt, AP Sports Writer

The Indiana Fever are on a roll and looking like a team that could return to the WNBA finals.

Indiana (11-6) heads into the All-Star break having won six of its past eight games, but is just third in the Eastern Conference behind Atlanta and Washington. Fourth-place Connecticut is 10-8 in the six-team conference.

Things aren’t so balanced out West. Seattle leads the way with a 16-2 record, but no one else has more than seven wins.

New York, the East’s last-place team, would be in second place in the West.

“Normally, it’s the West that’s like that, and everybody is fighting for the top,” Indiana All-Star forward Tamika Catchings said. “This year, it’s kind of like the flip-flop. The East is the conference to beat and everything is really close. The level of play each team plays with is a lot higher.”

Indiana enters the break coming off a 100-72 win over the Tulsa Shock on Thursday. It was the second-highest point total in team history, and the 35-point second quarter was a team record. The bench scored a team-record 50 points.

“This was a great way to finish the first half of the season,” Fever coach Lin Dunn said. “It’s good to see the bench play so well. Everyone stepped up and hit big shots.”

The Fever lost three of their first five games this season while Catchings, fellow All-Star Katie Douglas and starters Ebony Hoffman and Tammy Sutton-Brown adjusted to missing training camp after a late return from playing in Turkey.

One of those losses in May was a 79-74 defeat at Tulsa, a game the Fever led heading into the fourth quarter. This week’s game “was a payback,” Catchings said.
“There was no comparison when you look at the two games,” she said. “We did a better job moving the ball. We finished them off rather than letting them come back.”

The Fever are two games behind Atlanta, something Douglas doesn’t mind—for now.

“I’m happy we are where we are,” Douglas said. “It could be worse. There may be some mixed emotions because we would have liked to have started a little better, but we had some situations with us coming back. I’m proud of the way we’ve continued to fight back and put ourselves in position at the halfway point. We’re still in contention of winning the Eastern Conference and that’s what matters.”

Catchings and Douglas have done their share to help the Fever remain a contender.

Catchings is ninth in the league in averaging 16.2 points and leads the league with 2.7 steals. She also averages 6.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists. Douglas opened the season in a shooting slump, but has rebounded. She is averaging 13.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

The Fever have remained a strong defensive team, a key to their run of five straight playoff appearances. Indiana allows a league-low 70.2 points.

The Fever’s only two losses in their past eight games were by four at league-leading Seattle and by three at Washington. Indiana is one of two teams with a win over Seattle this season, a 72-65 victory June 17 in Indianapolis.

“I think we’re definitely getting better and better,” Catchings said. “I’m not satisfied. When you look at the games we lost, we should have won three for sure and possibly all of them. From that standpoint, I’m not satisfied, but when you look at where we came from in the beginning to where we’re about to go, I’m expecting big things.”

Douglas doesn’t expect an easy path.

“I think the East is extremely wide open,” she said. “It’s extremely competitive this year. It’s anybody’s ball game right now. We’re going to take this break and start to get in our playoff mentality and get things rolling.”

No, she looked good in her limited minutes in the first quarter. Classic Catch really; 4 ast, 3 points, an assist and a steal in only 5 min. I think Geno just wanted to rest her "old" bones and not risk it. Plus, the first unit (mainly Bird, Taurasi, Catch) know each other so well already. The rest of the young girls on the roster need a lot more time playing together to build that chemistry that the girls from the previous national teams have developed.

Hmmm. Apparently there is an injury of some sort. She didn't play in the scrimmage against Australia:

"Tamika Catchings was a surprise (to me at least) scratch, with knee problems. It doesn't keep her from playing Fever games, but she's scaled back practice time."

Hopefully it's not a huge deal and she's just being cautious and loyal to the Fever, but there you have it.

Oh, wow. Thanks for the link. Catch is a warrior. I watched the game against Connecticut today and she was all over the floor, still diving for loose balls and throwing her body into defenders. I respect the heck out of this woman.
