Great song. My favorite Benjamin song is a tie, hands down. "Phase" and "Shallow Bay". They are both very powerful songs. I never put Breaking Benjamin down as my favorite band because it's a No Contest/Given for me.

When people talk about a band changing their lives or saving them through High School/Life/Etc, that's what Breaking Benjamin is too me. Always weird my friends out because my day to day music taste would make you think I wouldn't give a second to listen to them.

I'm going to jump in here and interrupt your thread. Please explain metal to me and why you like it. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I just don't get the whole metal thing, and I'm interested to know what the appeal is for people who like it. To me, it all kind of sounds the exact same.

Ok, no problem. I've been asked this numerous times. Most believe that people who listen to Metal hate their lives and are always depressed. Not at all. I myself am musically inclined, so there is where I begin.

Metal was so fun to learn on guitar for me because it's such a challenge. However, the screaming seems to be what outside listeners can't get past. Some, not even close to all, metal screamer's/singer's , use the scream as an expression of powerful emotion through words ( and yes there are words behind a scream lol. )

Breakdown: The breakdown of a metal song would be a climax to a movie. For instance, the arena scene from "Gladiator", "The Battle For Helm's Deep" from LOTR, etc. If you are a big fan of metal music, the Breakdown
is suspenseful, and when it finally hits, it gives you cold chills.

All in all, the reason I listen to metal (The bands I listen to atleast) are so un-predictable (August Burns Red) and listening to it is in a way, "Fun". It's a type of music that you either love, or hate, simple as that. But I think the road you're crossing are the bands that just belch into the microphone and there are nothing but muddy guitars, blaring bass, and blast beats blowing out the speakers. KingGeorge can back me up on this, there's a huge difference between that, and metal.

Finding good metal is like opening up a bad bag of skittles. Filled with nothing but yellows, but there are 1 or 2 reds in there. When you find those bands, it's special.

I've asked a few people this before, and this is by far the best answer I've gotten. Thanks, I appreciate it. It's not my thing, but I can respect your reasons for liking it.

I revised it a bit. some bad grammar and I touched it up a bit. Feel free to glance through it again.

I totally agree with this. I can listen to everything from 3 Doors Down to August Burns Red, 80's to present, I just love rock music overall.

Metal is such a hard genre to describe though because it has changed so much over the years. In the 80's, bands like Ozzy Osbourne were metal, while you have heavy rock in Van Halen. Those bands today would almost be considered soft rock.

I know many people don't like the screaming, but it's hard to sing normal because metal is all about distortion, and screaming definitely fits that. Just like all music though, there are bad screamers and good screamers.

The reason I love metal is because this is where you can find the most talented musicians, in my opinion. The guitar has always been my favorite instrument, and some bands can do stuff with a guitar you never even thought were possible.

Most people think that anyone who listens to metal has to be goth or hate life, but that is far from the truth. I listen to all kinds of music and rock has the best quality. It also has that intensity that can get me through the day.

It really has to be the most difficult genre of music to explain the reasoning behind it and why it appeals to you so much.

Listening to In Flames album "Sense of Purpose". What a great record from these guys. They completely out did themselves with it.

"Alias" and "The Mirror's Truth" are just EPIC and breathe taking.

Glad you liked it. There is an even harder Christian metal banned called Oh, Sleeper that you might like.

Only Christian music. I listen to anything from Johan Sebastian Bach to Chris Tomlin to Oh, Sleeper. I like pretty much everything. And if anyone likes rap I always suggest LeCrae or the amazing rap band TobyMac.
