So, if we want to count both 3 point shooters and mid-range specialists we come up with 8 teams.

Personally, I don't think that mid-range specialists are a big issue. Nene has a great mid-range game (probably better than Marc Gasol and Nikola Vucevic) but Hibbert didn't have a single issue against him. We didn't have an issue when Bosh was attempting long 2s against us either.

In fact, our defense openly encourages opposing bigs to take long 2s. We will live with that. The problem is Centers that can actually shoot 3s and make them consistently. Several of them exist in this league but most of them aren't starter quality. Kevin Love and Chris Bosh are the only starting quality bigs that spend a lot of time at C for their teams (even though both of them are 4s) and can hit 3s consistently.

You don't remember Ben Wallace or maybe you never watched him he could guard a wing as well as Shaquille O'Neill.
How many Centers can you think of that can be considered decent to solid defenders ( whether it be individual or team defenders ) once they are pulled away from the paint?

Did you mean to direct this question to me as well or it was just a typo?

I'll answer just to have all the bases covered. Not a lot of Centers could be considered decent to solid defenders when they are pulled out to the 3 point line. There is a reason why those guys are Centers and that reason is that their primary strength is inside the paint. That's why a lot of teams run PnRs in the hope that the opponent switches and they get a guard vs big mismatch on the perimeter.

I'm pretty sure that some incredibly athletic and very mobile 4/5s like Anthony Davis and Kenneth Faried can stand their ground on the perimeter but that's really not where you want your big to be.

Not really. The league has not figured out Roy except if you think that shooting 30+ 3s per game counts as a counter.
Roy's problem isn't that the league figured out Roy, it's that last year Roy couldn't figure out Roy.

That's something that I can agree with.

It's too bad Anthony Davis got cross-overed against Dragic when he got pulled from the basket in the exhibition match .

    Sooooooooo.....

Would the naysayers be happy if Roy averaged 9.0+ RPG, and we had to rely mostly on our half court offense?

We don't already rely mostly on our half court offense?

Nope. They'd just complain that he's not averaging averaging 9.1 RPG.
