Just because. I suppose George Hill should get credit for this.

    The awkwardness....

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

George Hill, CJ Watson, and Michael Jordan. I think Kevin Pritchard and Frank Vogel may have challenged him too.

As someone who has donated to ALS charities multiple times I must say I do not get the whole ice bucket thing.

You would think a lot of good has come from this thingy, but I still don't get it.

Was started by the Hockey team, Bruins, who were doing it for a fan. So they started the trend.

They've raised like 15 million dollars more this year than last year.

The actual amounts that are coming from this...its crazy. I believe there was a SportsCenter piece on the origin of the challenge, was a former Boston College baseball player who has ALS, and was trying different ways to get the word spread, found the ice bucket challenge online and took the idea and ran.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. That's a disgracefully low amount considering the amount of high profile celebs who have done the challenge.

Always love people that tell others how to donate their money...

So they should have not done this at all, I guess? If Larry Bird donates $100 is that disgraceful in your eyes? Because that's $100 the ALS foundation didn't have before.

You missed the point. I've seen plenty of videos from celebs where ALS isn't even mentioned, never mind how to donate. For many of them, the whole thing is a vanity exercise. Not including Larry in this btw. I understand that his mother had ALS.

So you just assume he donated while you assume other didn't?

And yeah, for some they donate nothing. It still advances the cause by keeping it fresh in the public mind. There is nothing bad about these videos, even if done for vanity.

This is almost as annoying as all the people who have suddenly decided they now care about water conservation.

From the newest release, just taking new donations in mind, from the 41.8 million dollars, and 739,275 new donors, that averages out to about $56 a person. Not everyone that's donating is a major celebrity or athlete.

Are you guys seriously criticizing someone donating and doing it a certain way? Would you rather have your news feeds be saturated with Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber? I would seriously hate living my life with so much disdain and contentiousness.

Really? Who's criticising someone who donates?

Don't get me wrong, every dollar that is donated is great, but think about it for a second. It's taken off worldwide. Almost every celeb has done it by now. 15 mill raised, something doesn't add up. Bound to be many celebs who have done it and haven't donated a dime. Shame on them.

I agree. Cool Lebron, you dumped ice on your head. You have hundreds of millions of dollars that could be fighting disease or poverty in Africa. Instead you are hopping from super team to super team and buying mansions left and right. smh what a joke

glad I don't have anybody climbing up in my wallet telling me what to do with my money. ridiculous. telling another person what to do with their money, unless it's a close personal friend that you know can't afford that car or whatever, and I mean CLOSE, shut the hell up. unless you just like being bitter.

I actually get what some people are saying, and I at least partially agree. I do think some celebrities are using this as more of a fab and perhaps not donating.

With that said, every time a celeb posts a video (and it gets talked about) that is more awareness for a disease that literally had ZERO public awareness this time of year. Sure, you had people who knew of the disease, but how many people were talking about it (and how many people on the mainstream were talking about it).

IMO, you can not put a price on the publicity. Sure it would be awesome to have a little more money donated for all the A-list celebs, but I am sure the ALS foundations are just as happy with the 14M I saw last week they had raised (and that was in comparison to last year, where it was simply thousands of dollars)

SN: I have to agree with TJ and laugh at all these water conversation people who have magically popped up. I genuinely hope they have never washed their car, watered their lawn, or put ice in their coffee

Aren't you just assuming that people aren't donating?

Most people (probably damn near close to all) are doing the bucket challenge AND donating. You're just making an assumption so you have something to be grouchy about. Has there been a single celeb that has been like "I'm doing the challenge so I don't have to donate"?

Also your 15 million number is old and out dated.
