In order to change his jersey number from 24 to 13, Indiana Pacers star Paul George had to buy out all the merchandise with his old number from Adidas. George did just that and then put the merchandise to good use by donating it to his high school.

George gave the purchased gear to the students and staff of Knight High School (Palmdale, California), from which he graduated in 2008.

Why did he do such a nice thing?

George may only be 24 years old, but the young star already knows that giving back is important.

Plumlee reminds me of a young Dale Davis. Good rebounding and he contests shots well on defense and his offensive game is very raw just like DD's was coming out of college.

Paul is a good guy. He still has some maturing to do, but he is a genuine good guy.

According to league rules, he was REQUIRED to buy all unsold stock with his old number on it. This will make for a nice deduction on his taxes.

According to most of the reports on the number change, he requested the number change before the deadline that would have required him to buy out the merchandise - so this would appear to be truly voluntary, given that a deduction wouldn't be as favorable as just keeping the money he chose to spend in the first place.

I was going by the first post in the "PG-13 Official" thread which quoted Darren Rovell of ESPN as saying league rules required the purchase.

No he was in before the dead line, so he did it by choice.

    Paul George downsizing uni number
    By Darren Rovell | ESPN.com

"Because George applied for the change before the March deadline, he doesn't have to pay for the remaining old No. 24s on the market. Sources, however, said he still elected to do so."

What exactly would buying a bunch of shirts with your name on them be put under to deduct it on your taxes?
