Doing this to win games next year in spite of crippling years that matter feels like winning a battle but losing the war.
Why does winning games next year cripple us for the future?

yep bc that 12th pick will get so much playing time on the team next year... 4 or 5 spots doesn't mean ****. If we tanked and got 5th or 6th pick the year we drafted PG then this team wouldn't be what it it
If you believe the front office they would have picked Paul George anywhere from 2nd to 10th. If we had tanked in 08-09 we might have ended up with Steph Curry instead of Tyler Hansbrough. I have faith in the front office to draft well, and the better the pick the better the chance is we get a good player.

    Another idea....(puts grimp hat on)

team is totally re-shuffling the deck and moving West and Hibbert. Marion is actually being viewed as the power forward next season.

Worse draft pick, especially if we move from the 9th team in the East to the 7th or 6th. I don't see how getting swept by Cleveland or Chicago helps the Pacers. The three extra games we might win next year because of this shouldn't affect confidence or anything.

Hope this is true and it's a multi year deal. He'll be awesome to have around when PG is back.

I also think it hurts because it's a band-aid on a bigger injury, that we will have almost no one under contract for 2016-2017 and have to rely on free agency and now worse draft picks.

Look if I thought this team was going to finish 14th or 15th, I'd be right on board with you homer, but I just don't see it. Moving from 9th to 6th is something I am for, and I bet the Simons will be pleased with that too. Plus if we're the six seed we're probably playing Toronto or Washington in the first round.

It can't be. The injury exception can only be for one year deals.

Seriously, we're not going to be bad enough to have a good pick regardless of if Marion comes. Might as well get in and get the guys who haven't been there some experience.

unless it's the minimum we literally can't offer more than a year

    We're not getting swept.

Having a high draft pick isn't the key, what you do with your draft pick is key.

You are more confident in the team than I am in the first place. I still don't think this makes us any better than 7th. Our defense will be helped out greatly by this, but I still think the offense will be a total disaster.

I have a hard time believing we scheduled a press conference for a 36 (37? Too lazy to look up his age) veteran. Especially when we didnt for Cj Miles, Rudez, Stuckey etc
Stop quoting people I have on ignore!

no one on the roster has value outside of maybe West, and his value's overrated here. too much remaining money on any piece that'd bring anything back. so sign the best FA left on the market, try to make a run, if it's not working out hey, Shawn Marion (if he's close to last year anyway) on an expiring cheap deal is a helluva lot better throw in than anything else we got that doesn't include a pick.

Cope's expiring, perhap's Marion's, Solo, picks. if absolutely NOTHING else Marion would provide us a throw in. say PHX is bunched up at the 7 seed and 4 games back of the 4 at the deadline. use the exception or lose it.

He's a veteran but he's also a former star and a recognizable face. I feel like we wouldn't schedule the PC before Bird and him met, and if they met tonight it wouldn't line up. My guess is they are going to talk about PG and sidestep questions about Marion and then finalize the Marion deal Tuesday night if it is going to happen.

I was going to watch this season regardless, but this makes it more interesting and hopefully keeps the casuals supporting the team. I can understand why some want to re-tool or whatever, but I think this is probably the best way to go. Assuming it happens of course.

I never knew an ECF team could have no one on the roster with any value.

It's because it's on an ECF team because all the other teams took it easy on them.
