Default Local Indy Television: WTTV to Become CBS Affiliate

Wow. Talk about a shake-up in central Indiana television. I don't know what this means for WISH-TV. I haven't seen any confirmed news on what's to happen to CW programming.

CBS Leaving WISH-TV for WTTV, Channel 4

CBS has announced it is ending it’s long-time affiliation with WISH-TV Channel 8 and switching over to WTTV-TV, Channel 4 in Indianapolis.

According to PR Newswire, the CBS affiliate in the Indianapolis area will move from LIN Media’s WISH-TV (Channel 8) and begin broadcasting on WTTV (Channel 4) on Jan. 1, 2015.

“There’s nothing more valuable to a local station than programming from the #1 television network, and Tribune Broadcasting has been a great partner in reaching this agreement,” said Ray Hopkins, President, Television Networks Distribution, CBS Corporation. “We’re very pleased that Tribune recognized the full value that CBS brings to their business and brands across all of their stations included in this deal.”

“This comprehensive agreement further expands our strong partnership with CBS and allows us to provide an array of outstanding programming, including leading live sports, news and entertainment,” said Tribune Broadcasting President Larry Wert. “Through WTTV’s new affiliation, we look forward to significantly enhancing our sports offerings, local news coverage and commitment to the community.”

With the CBS affiliation, WTTV becomes the new home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts beginning in 2015. The station will also broadcast other live sports, including NCAA football and basketball games.

The agreement also includes early renewals for four Tribune Media-owned CBS affiliates: WREG-TV in Memphis, Tenn.; WHNT-TV in Huntsville, Ala; KFSM-TV in Ft. Smith, Ark., as well as a renewal for WTVR-TV in Richmond, Va. In addition, CBS has renewed its affiliation agreement with Dreamcatcher Broadcasting’s Norfolk, Va., WTKR, to which Tribune Broadcasting provides operational support under a shared services agreement.

WTH is Channel 8 going to do now? We already have a Fox affiliate. Perhaps Al Jazera America? or BBC America?

I guess this means everyone will have to watch all of 4's re-run series on the half-dozen other channels that carry the same re-runs. Maybe a few judges and vampires with make a few bucks less.

You have to wonder what 8 will do for programming now. "Stay tuned after the channel 8 news for a special Silver Spoons re-run."

Maybe Cowboy Bob and Janie will team up with Debbie Knox and Mike Ahern for "remember when" programming or some readings of Cowboy poetry.

Is this a guess or confirmed? I wouldn't expect CW to stay with 4 at all once they become a CBS affilliate.... But stranger things have happened, like WTTV 4 switching to CBS.

A minor television network. Started about the same time as "the WB". Those two were hoping to be the fifth and sixth major networks, but it hasn't happened.

It's also the television home of Supernatural, one of my favorite shows of all-time. I'm going to keep a close eye on what happens to that network on my channel line-up. (And keep up on cw.com, Hulu Plus, etc.)

I hope WISH-TV can stay alive through local news and local events. It's happened in other cities, but I'm pretty sure they are all bigger markets than this one.

Its what the FAQ at fox59.com says.

Its also Channel 248 on Comcast according to my research yesterday.

Unless channel 8 is going to steal ABC, NBC, or Fox away from another channel then they are certainly going to have to reinvent themselves... WISH is now connected with WNDY I believe. So that would seem to further complicate how WISH could rebrand itself without a network affiliation.

Hopefully WISH gets CW. I watch a lot of CW, and no CBS outside of sports. Of course, my elderly parents are the exact opposite. They're freaking out about getting their NCIS.

I don't even list those non-HD channels in my Tivo. Hopefully Comcast bumps them up to HD. I'd rather watch online than have Nina Dobrev and Phoebe Tonkin in standard def. :shiver:

I didn't watch Wish TV, except for local news. Isn't CBS just a bunch of CSI shows and spinoffs? Not very creative programming.

I don't think it's HD to begin with (the sub channel I mean, not CW) so before Comcast would bump it to HD then Channel 4 would need to do it to 4.2. And bumping 4.2 to HD would steal bandwidth from 4.1 CBS. Then there would be *****ing about the artifacts and softness of 4.1 CBS HD versus 8.1 CBS HD. But I can't imagine that CW wants to be relegated to a SD bit limited sub channel in the Indy market either.

EDIT: I don't get 4.2 so I'm speculating that it's like the multitude of other sub channels I do get and is a bit limited SD channel.

I'm the same as them. Gotta have my NCIS.

Actually, CBS has a number of programs I like. Besides the two NCIS series I enjoy Person of Interest, Criminal Minds, Extant (with the very hot Halle Berry). There are others, just can't think of them after thinking about Halle Berry. Also, they are the home network for the Colts and have the NCAA.
