I completely missed the game but I feel like we need to win out dec, a couple upsets, and to avoid blowouts in big 10 season now to make the tournament.

    Maybe we needed that anyway...

College football home attendance hits lowest point since 2000
    7 hours ago
The average home attendance for Football Bowl Subdivision teams was 43,483 this season (down 4 percent from 2013), according to CBSSports.com, marking the lowest average attendance since 2000 (42,631). Neutral site games were not included in the research.

It wasn't bad news for all teams, however, as just seven of the teams that ranked among the top 25 in attendance saw a decline this year. All of the top 25 teams in attendance were from Power 5 conferences, other than Notre Dame. The biggest attendance increases and decreases from last season (by percentage) of the Power 5 schools can be seen below.

Biggest Increases of Power Five Schools
    Texas A&M (105,123): 21-percent
    Maryland (46,981): 14-percent
    LSU (101,723): 11-percent
    Mississippi State (61,127): 10-percent
    Rutgers (50,632): 9-percent
    Florida State (82,211): 9-percent
    UCLA (76,650): 9-percent

Biggest Decreases of Power Five Schools
    Purdue (35,269): 28-percent
    Pittsburgh (41,315): 17-percent
    Virginia (39,320): 15-percent
    Kansas (34,077): 10-percent
    Arizona State (57,179): 9-percent
    Oklahoma State (54,387): 8-percent

Below, you can see how the Power 5 conferences fared as a whole. The Big Ten saw the biggest dip, but this was largely due to it being the first season Rutgers and Maryland were figured into attendance. The ACC saw a slight rise in attendance, with Notre Dame's partial schedule helping in that regard.

    Attendance by Conference
    SEC (78,018): up 3-percent from 2013
    Big Ten (66,939): down 5-percent
    Big 12 (57,624): down 1-percent
    Pac-12 (52,758): down 2-percent
    ACC (50,016): up 1-percent
I hope you guys know by now I'm not here to troll; but this was jaw dropping. An almost 30% decrease in attendance? Good lord. I guess my question is, do you guys think this is just a product of coming off a 1 win season and not much hope of turning it around or part of a larger sense of apathy among your fanbase towards your (no offense) underperforming revenue sports?

Just blame it on bad weather this year, lol

I mean our offenses have sucked, we have gotten pounded, no one wants to see that... it is not entertaining and probably a little depressing, the spread was fun under Tiller, even if we didn't win everyone we still saw explosive plays through the air, now we doing even have a guy we can really call a #1 or #2 WR...

apathy towards football's definitely a big chunk of it. hoops has blown for a couple years and they're still finishing around the top 20 nationally in attendance. Hazell's still recruiting at a MAC level, arguably worse than Hope. the guy's got 1 conference win in 2 years, 4 total. the home slate this year definitely didn't help either. Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Southern Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern. MSU and Wisconsin were the only tix people'd care about and it's not like those are gigantic draws. sucks to say it but the truth's the truth, football attendance depends a great deal on opposing fans traveling and we didn't get to have all of Nebraska invade Ross Ade this year, had to play ND at Lucas Oil, Bucket Game was at IU so no rivalry crowd. there's no excuse, gotta just get some damn wins. it's all on Hazell, there's no more money exuse, him and his staff are compensated completely fairly and are middle of the pack conference wise last I checked. he'll get 4 years I guarantee but it's 6 wins next year or I'm done.

At least we had something to decrease from

...but really I am not surprised. They've basically gotten worse every year lately, and just terrible last year.

Hey now, every IU home game had at least 40,000 people in attendance, save for the Indiana State game which was 38,000. I suspect the actual number of people who went to the games was much lower than that though.

Ehh, football really doesn't matter lol. It makes money, but I Definitely prefer going to hoops games. Only saw Northwestern stomp on us this year.
But I just don't care about football.

Ya, I didn't care enough to look up actual numbers. I know a couple times I saw some pictures on twitter and the crowds were down right pathetic. Maybe Illinois?

Not saying the same didn't go for Purdue though.

wheels are starting to come off. get this **** together at half Painter. and while he's doing that Morgan Burke should start calling big time alums to get a buyout in order.

Do you guys have the boosters with deep pockets to make that a reality?

In short, no. Plenty of big timer alums, same as any other big school, but none of them care about athletics. Even if we did his buyout's almost freaking 10 million, T. Boone Pickens wouldn't even pay that. I don't know if Hazell's going to work out or not, doesn't look like it, but I'm fully willing to at least give him through next year. But if he doesn't turn it around our athletic programs going to become Northwestern-like. It won't be "give it a year or two and we'll be back to the glory days," it'll be what we actually are.

Maybe I'm pessimistic, sure hope so, but I'm terrified of what our athletic department may be about to become. If this hole gets deeper I don't know how to get out of it.
