Default NBA may increase age minimum, but increase NBADL salary

“The NCAA are a bunch of horses’ asses,” one source said. “If they don’t get their heads out of the sand and help these kids who come from nothing, then you will see the NBA make a move toward salaries way more attractive than they are now at the D-League level. Why not invest $100,000 or $200,000 in a player, put him in the D-League and let him stay there? At that age, you need to get them away from home and you need to get them on the court.”
Interesting read, but kinda doesn't make sense, if they are talented enough to play in the DLeague for one year, (Kobe, Garnett, that type of talent) why not just move them into the real NBA.

Yeah, the NBA needs to use the D-League against the NCAA, let top prospects who don't want/need college education a couple hundred thousand dollars a year until they're draft eligible. I personally think players should be able to come directly out of high school, but this can be a solid alternative; use the NBA minor league like baseball does.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Love this idea. I'd feel better if the D-league was a legit farm system.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

    Division Champions 1955, 1956, 1988, 1989, 1990, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
    Conference Champions 1955, 1956, 1988, 2005
    NBA Champions 1989, 1990, 2004

Because you don't know that they're ready (Curry/Brown/Chandler/Ebi).

Having better scouting info is best for the league to discouage guys like Kobe and TMac falling into the teens where they never would have gotten to had anyone seen them play against high level competition.

Likewise, you weed out the all-americans who also would not have been top-10 picks had anybody seem them play in college.

Love it. I have no problem with an age limit if there's a passable minor league in place.

Yes, increasing the competition and profile in the D-League would certainly help as far as player development. I wonder if they are going to increase salaries to the extent that it would undermine the European leagues?

This seems like it would take a lot of the gamble out of lottery picks.

Love this idea. Would love to see them match the age restriction that the NFL has. It would help with the Russian roulette that is picking those high schoolers. The scouts just cannot get a handle on these guys coming out of high school because you just cannot judge them going against high school kids.

This allows them to go to the D League and increase the talent they are going against and scouts can get a better handle on who they are.

This is a great idea, except the age limit should be 20 instead of 21. Kids coming out of High School would basically have 3 options.

    1. Go to college on a 4 year scholarship and get a Bachelor's Degree.
    2. Go to college for 2 years, get an Associates Degree and go to the NBA.
    3. Go to the D-League for 2 years and then get called up (hopefully) to the NBA.

I don't see this happening. The NBA players overwhelmingly believe that the age limit is too high as it is. They all have their own experience that they were ready to play in the NBA at 18 and if a kid wants to try, he should be allowed to do so. I don't see them signing off on this, increased NBADL salary or not.

They won't mind if alot of players are earning 100-200k in the NBADL.

That will help, I think. But pretty much every NBA player was a star at 18 and thought they could make it in the league at that age if they were allowed. It is not something like most of us have an opinion on, but something they have experienced. They don't think that 18 yr old's should be allowed to try to make the league, they know that they can. And their peers all know the same thing. I just think this is something that the league is going to have an impossible task getting the players to sign off on it.
