LeBron couldn't win it by himself, what makes you think Paul George can?

We need more than "decent" players around him.
By decent I mean good. Of the George Hill/David West variety.

Team's have to be built right, pieces have to fit. But having a player like Paul George is the more difficult part than getting players that fit around him.

And if Roy Hibbert looks like the Roy from the beginning of last season during the playoffs..it really hasn't closed..

We don't get by Atlanta or Washington in the playoffs without Lance. Our future took a huge hit when we lost him.
Lance averages 11pts 6rebs against Washington and the Pacers lose without him.
Roy averages 12pts 7rebs against Washington and the Pacers win inspite of him.

What if someone from a school of business or management school were to ask, How did you do this? How did you get the Pacers turned around? Is there a general approach you've taken that can be summarized?

If Lance's potential was that great I think someone would have given him a max contract. I few antics aren't going to dissuade a team from giving out a big contract if the players potential is that great. It is more likely Lance is who he is at this point, than him being a player with crazy potential.
Lance's potential is so great, Char was willing to give him half the contract they were willing to give Gordon Hayward.

I bet PD would melt down if we actually started discussing whether or not Hayward is/will be twice as good as Lance.

If Hayward was unrestricted he probably would have got 10 to 12 million. Restricted free agency is the main cause of overpaid good but not great players.

I believe our window has slammed shut. Unless we have a deal in the works. You cannot let a budding star go and replace him with scraps and honestly think we have improved. Nobody wanted Stuckey that is why we got him for the veterans minimum. Miles is a good shooter who can put together a big game now and then but he is definitely not a starter in this league. With Lance gone teams defenses will focus more on PG because there is not one more creator on this team. Nobody else can beat you. West is solid but is declining. You can't rely on Hibbert at all. I for one don't want to waste another year praying Hill will be more aggressive and Hibbert will not go into one of his disappearing acts. Just when this team seemed to win the fans back this is what we get. I for one am really starting to wonder about Bird.

I just can't bring myself to believe that we have given up hope on a team that hasn't so much as played a pre season game yet. C'mon man.

Lance has far more potential than Hayward, he is just more of a gamble because of his other issues. You have to decide whether he is worth the risk. There was another Indiana boy who had those issues when he was young. Zack Randolf has grown up and turned into a great player and a good citizen. I wish we would have given him a chance to do that.

We didn't give him a chance? Oh give me a break with that we gave him more guaranteed money while staying with a contender. We gave him every chance and he bolted.

We will be "OK". Simply that.
    Contenders?
    No.
You do not give away budding stars for nothing and remain contenders.
You do not win championships with a ninety year old PF, a weak minded center, and without a starting caliber guard.
Keep steady to half fill the fieldhouse or trade "assets" for young prospects and picks and look to the future.
    That is all.

It's funny how talk about the Pacers championship opportunity revolves around a late 2nd round pick.

Yeah that's not underselling Lance at all.

I believe the window has closed for the current roster as is constructed and it has nothing to do with Lance Stephenson.

Wait, did something happen and he became a lottery pick?

The statement was just trying to point out that no one expects this from someone picked where Lance was picked. Doesn't say he was PLAYING like a late 2nd round pick, just that to think people would write you off because the 40th pick moved on is, on the face of it, kind of weird.

With how the roster is currently set, Indiana is a long shot to win a championship. Hilarious that some posters are acting like CJ Miles is some kind of key addition by Bird that softens the blow from losing Lance. If your starting backcourt is George Hill and CJ Miles, your team has serious issues

So OKC stopped being a contender when they lost Harden, or is it not as simplistic?

They were pretty much written off, but it was as much due to Westbrook injury as Harden leaving.

The other point is that if Roy had not collapsed at the end of last season we wouldn't be having this conversation - which is why Lance leaving isn't what most people who think the window closed would probably consider the slamming of it.

OKC did stop becoming a contender by trading Harden. They made the finals in 2012, then they made the trade. OKC has regressed since making that idiotic trade

I am considering the door shut because Roy Hibbert, one of our supposed best players, has a reputation of being shut down by cab drivers like Pero Antic.

Let's not get carried away here.

They got beat the next season because Westbrook was injured.
They got beat last season because - well, San Antonio.

Their win % actually increased (slightly) after Harden left.

    11-12 OKC w/ Harden - 47-19 (71.12 winning%)
    12-13 OKC w/o Harden - 60-22 (73.17 winning%)

Yep, they stopped being a contender.

If Roy returns to form this team should be the favorites to win the East.

Manu Ginobili would like to have a conversation with you and then as soon as he is done I have Dennis Rodman on line 2.

Is Paul George still capable of improving? Yes. Is David West still capable of playing at a high level? Yes. Will Hibbert still play DPOY caliber defense? I think so, so no, no it hasn't.
