Default A 5 With a Better Face-up Game than Roy

A young center who appears to have a better fundamental grasp of face up shooting than Roy.

Hopefully he gets the proper coaching over the next 6 years...

The next Dirk Nowitzki? The second coming of Rik Smits who is not his son?

Why single out Roy when this guys clearly a better shooter than most centers?

7'1" in 8th grade. Our current center is Roy who has an exceedingly difficult time on offense because of his lack of both the physicality to have a back to the basket game and his inability to hit faceup jumpers consistently.

Still don't know how I feel about international middle school combines.

There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

It probably helps when you're matched-up against people that are between 1 and 2 feet shorter than you. Granted Roy is the tallest center in the league, but we're talking inches not feet.

Purdue's got a freshman this year that literally looks bigger than current Roy. I'm talking body size, they seem to be the same height depending what measurement you believe but he looks thicker, it's wild.

I would say "stop bashing Roy", but with all of the crap he has said along with his lackluster performance pile on. Dude had this coming when he started bumping his gums.

Where's Purdue? Is that the school down in Bloomington? J/K

I just hope he's good for Painter, and he's better than Joe Barely Cares Carroll.

Video doesn't mean much. The only thing I know for certain is that he keeps the ball high. With his height advantage, that's really all he has to do. Many players can hit an open shot, and with his height advantage, all of his shots are open. A game situation is like nothing more than a practice scrimmage to him.

Roy needs to protect the rim and rebound then be okay with that as priority #1. His Face up game is pretty far down the list for me.

Meh I went to school with Matt Howard (the butler center who played with Gordon Hayward and went to the National title game twice) and he played about the same as this kid at the same age...had a sweet stroke and just shot over everybody and dunking the ball in middle school and we see where Matt is today(overseas playing in Europe). It will get much more difficult for him the more he advances in basketball

Matt Howard is 6'8". If he was 7'1" he would be in the NBA and had a decent defensive motor he would be in the NBA. Not to say this kids has a motor, I can't tell. But he does have some fundamentals down at a young age. Couple that with his height and I think he will get a scholarship some where.

Agree with this. I would add he needs to pass. Feel like his passing really regressed last year. I think he's a good rim protector, so all he needs to learn is rebounding and passing!

I'm just telling you that when Matt was this kids age, he was dominating everyone around him just like him an look at him now. This kid has a long way to go before he's dominating the nba and just like anything else in life you have to work hard to be successful

In regards to Matt, he was in the gym everyday working on his game and his motor wasn't his problem, his problem was he was a little slow footed and kind of goofy. He was to small to be a center and to slow to be power forward in the nba. He left his heart on the floor every time he played, just didn't have the physical gifts to quite make it

Most players that go to D1 schools dominate their middle school competition. Luke Recker did it at Dekalb Central.

Whatever happened to Luke Recker? Didn't he transfer out of IU?

He went to IOWA. Was undrafted and signed to the Heat for the training camp. Cut from the roster and spent 6 years overseas in Europe. He lives in Iowa selling medical devices.

I would agree we should trade Roy, but currently you won't find a replacement. Unless we can get MONROE from Detroit. I think trading WEST would be a better idea. And try and get a stretch 4 who can run the floor, is athletic, and can shoot.

We already have RamDam (or whatever his name) to play stretch four.

Dude, I meant starting quality. I mean someone like one of the Morris twins from PHX, Middleton from Milwaukee, Milsap from Atl, etc. I really think one or both of the Morris twins are getable. They both need to be re-signed next Summer. Along with Green and Dragic. Phoenix has no low post threat. West and maybe Copeland for both Morris twins I think would be something doable.
