Colts offer single-game tickets, with an asterisk

On Monday, Colts fans can buy tickets to one or more of the 10 individual games on the teamís home slate for 2014. But to get tickets to one of the games, fans must buy tickets to another game.

The team announced that seats for the latest showdown with the Patriots can be had only by buying tickets to another game on the schedule. The good news? Itís the Giants. Bad news? Itís a preseason game.

Last year, Colts owner Jim Irsay justified the application of the same prices to preseason and regular-season tickets by arguing that the value evens out over the full course of 10 games. By forcing fans who want to see the most valuable game on the 2014 docket to buy tickets to a far less valuable game, the Colts are applying a form of flexible pricing, essentially doubling the cost of the Patriots game ó especially if Patriots fans will be buying any of the tickets.

It would be more sensible to simply adopt flexible pricing. Approved to be used for the first time in the coming season, several teams (including the Steelers, Bills, Lions, Patriots, and Dolphins) have opted to slide prices up and down based on the perceived quality of the game.

The Patriots will visit Indianapolis on November 16 for a game currently due to kickoff at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC. That could change under the concept of flexible scheduling, which begins in theory as early as Week Five in 2014.

I'm sure they don't but what if the Colts are terrible by that point of the season(not saying that will happen) and the game is flexed? Won't be a night game anymore....

You have a point but it's based on something that is possible, but it's more likely that the game will be played in that time slot. The desire to limit scalping would also be present even if the Colts are mediocre or if the game is being played earlier in the day. IIRC, they have done that against other teams like the Packers that have a large contingent of fans who travel or who reside in Indiana...

I'm planning on visiting from the UK this season so hope this doesn't mean I'd have to buy tickets for two games if I'm not in Indianapolis long enough to see both.

That policy only applies to one game, so you don't need to worry about it unless the Patriots are playing the week you are here. Not only that but I think the majority of the tickets for the entire season have been sold to season ticket holders anyway.

You can always get a ticket(s) from stubhub. Usually have too pay more but if you want to really go they'll be available.

I usually give my preseason tickets away but this year we have the Giants and Saints so I'll probably go to both. I don't really have a problem with them doing this if it helps keep the Pats fans away. There will still be some regardless.

I hear ya. I like going to a game or two a season because it's fun seeing it live, but I just miss out on things when I see it live, especially if I'm sitting high up. I just love watching on a nice HD TV.

Yes, the hours of male enhancement advertisements just adds to the television experience.

Whats the difference if you go? There are advertisements for that stuff in the stadium too.

It is called flipping the channel to something else when commercials come on.

Being with drunken idiots, dealing with horrible traffic, overpriced food/beverages, and long lines just add to the live experience.

DVR. Instead of turning the game on at 1, you record it, start at 1:30-1:45, and get to skip the commercials.

What if someone from a school of business or management school were to ask, How did you do this? How did you get the Pacers turned around? Is there a general approach you've taken that can be summarized?

    Larry Bird: Yeah, patience.

Same here. The Mrs. and I usually catch a preseason game and at least one regular season game. For those who have never seen Lucas Oil and don't want to shell out the big bucks I still highly recommend catching a preseason game as long as it is not the game before the real season starts. You can find tickets for the most part at least half off normal prices and much less. I'll be there for the Giants pre opener (section 121) in anticipation of seeing how Reginald Wayne is doing.
