Stuckey is not a 1/2. He is a 2 that can't shoot and pounds the rock into oblivion. Terrible iq imo. I never liked his game. Even when he put up deceng numbers I hated his game.
If Stuckey is just a 2, he is a 2 that can average 5 apg. Kind of sounds like Lance to me.

The last time the Pacers gave a guy his "last hope" was DJ Augustin, and he failed badly here, but managed to snag on to the Bulls somehow and succeed.

If this is a cheap contract I have no problem with it, 1 year is already a good start, can trade him if needed as well.

Larry Bird needs to hold a Rick Pitino conference and go: Lance Stephenson isn't walking through that door...and if he is he's going to be angry and crazy.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Stuckey got 1 year vet minimum according to Candace Buckner... not bad but it is Stuckey
That is all we could pay him since we already used up our exceptions.

Solo has 10 times the basketball iq that Brush ever had. Hes not as crazy quick as Brush, but he knows where to be. I seriously don't see the comparison at all. Solos not the knock down 3 shooter that brush is either, but can score in savvy sorta ways i think. I actually think they might be opposites.
the amount of dislike for Rush here has always perplexed me. he's an intelligent basketball player. Solo's basically a blank slate, I don't know how you could compare the "basketball IQ" of him to anyone unless you watched a bunch of Arizona games.

What the he11 is that suppose to mean?
I hope Bird had Frank's ok to pick up Stuckey, or he could be next seasons Copeland 2.0 .

Here on the 1 year vet minimum. Surely he's off the bench with Miles starting so.

you guys are seriously overrating Stephenson. He was not that good haha. Just because otwr teams fans think its a huge loss doesnt mean we have to. Before the season ended I was praying he wouldnt be resigned.

Now Stucky isnt that bad. Who cares if he cant shoot 3s. Obviously Bird knows that hence CJ Miles signing. We need to focus on getting a better PG.
Because we have one very good shooter on our team that is a perimeter player.

PG and Hill are scorers, they aren't shooters.

Shooting is essential. You want pretty offense and ball movement? Gotta have shooters. You want the ability to score in the post? Gotta have shooters.

I'm not Jim O'brien. I don't want my team to only take jump shots. But you need to have players capable of making jump shots so that teams choose to guard those players. With another player that can't hit the three consistently added to our lineup, "pack it in" is going to continue to be an effective method of defense against us.

Hopefully Miles plays really well and starts.

Now, this really isn't a bad deal..because if he causes problems..just cut him. But there had to be better fits available.

Ironically, non-Pacers fans seem to like this signing a lot more for the Pacers than we do.

I forgot to mention his best trait. He is the only one in the world who doesn't know he can't shoot. That is even more frustrating. Someone postef Lances high fg% and said it is deceptive because he shoots so many close shots. Well no ****? I would prefer that than chucking shots. Knowing yoh own gamr is an undervalued skill. Players egos normally get in the way.

    Stuckey = (?) mil expiring (2.5-3 mil?)

+ West or Hibbert opt out and restructure. It's doable.
We will be near the luxury tax line, 14 million over the salary cap. To sign a guy for 10M, we'd need to shave off about 24 million bucks. Scola, Copeland, Watson, Stuckey isn't halfway there. Hibbert and West have player options and no way on Earth do they opt out.

You'd have to dump Hibbert to a way-way-way under-the-cap team for nothing.

bottom line: no free agents next year of significance.

This is your Pacers for the next 2 years.

It's trade or play with what we've got.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

I'm really amused by the overwhelming negativity toward this signing after the overwhelming negative reaction toward losing Lance. Except for maybe Tyreke Evans, there isn't a closer match to the offensive skillset of Stephenson in the league than Stuckey. They both make hard cuts to the basket, both have unpolished yet effective post games, both are above average ballhandlers and passers who like to attack the rim.
It all depends on how he is used, and the role he is willing to accept. I think the best solution for everyone is for him to be the scorer off the bench. Playing 20ish minutes and about 8-10ppg. I'm not really a fan of any of those players though.

Yep I forgot you can ISO him in the post. Look I'm not trying to over sell him, but I remember several times he gave the Pacers problems. He'd burn hit then kinda disappear iirc. But when he was hot, he was a very tough cover. I don't know if it was conditioning or mental fatigue/lack of interest

if hes not motivated by get min on a one yr deal then I'm not sure what will.

side note : I always thought he looked liked 50 cent.

I meant that guys like playing for Frank, he's a "player's coach" and he's young enough he fits in really well. Copeland's problem wasn't that Frank didn't like his game, it's that he loved Scola's game.

It would be awkward to see Stuckey start over Miles wouldn't it, considering the contract given to both coming in lol

It's better than nothing, I guess. At least we don't have to depend on Solo or Rudez. Honestly I'd rather have Turner, but I doubt he would have signed for the vet minimum.

For the money it doesn't look bad but we all know his shot is broke and his attitude has sucked in the past on a bad team. Again for the money you can do a deal like this but I wouldn't get my hopes up at all. There is a reason he signed here for the vet min and no one else wanted him.

It wouldn't be a surprise though. Stuckey is miles ahead of Miles.

But that's why he'll play 18-20 minutes a night and not 36. Meanwhile, Miles gets the minutes with the starters to give PG, West, and Hibbert more space to operate.
