    Default Pacers interested in Vin Baker?

    Vin could be a Knick soon

    By FRANK ISOLA
    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

    The agent for former Celtics power forward Vin Baker said yesterday his client should be signed by the end of the week, and that the Knicks are among Baker's top choices.
    "The Knicks have a great chance," Aaron Goodwin said before the Knicks lost to the Cavs. "It's a great organization and they have number of people who are sensitive to the issues that Vin has gone through. They are also a playoff team and those are the categories we're looking for."

    Detroit, Miami and Indiana are also said to be interested in Baker, who was released by the Celtics 10 days ago after being suspended for violating his drug aftercare program. Baker, a recovering alcoholic, had the final 21/2 years of his contract, worth $38 million, voided by the Celtics. Baker has filed an appeal through the Players Association, whose executive director, Billy Hunter, said yesterday that the union likely will give Baker the OK to sign with another team sometime within the next 48 hours.

    "We just want to make sure it doesn't negatively impact his arbitration," Hunter said. "We hope to resolve that within the next day or so.

    "If we believe it won't negatively impact it then we'll probably let him sign. If not then he may have to sit out until we get it resolved in arbitration because there is too much at stake. We have $38 million at stake and I can't take a chance on jeopardizing that by letting him sign a minimum salary with one of those teams."

    If the 6-11 Baker is healthy, he can become the low post presence the Knicks covet. Before being released by Boston, Baker told several friends in the NBA that he would sign with the Knicks.

    Baker was in New York last week but Goodwin denied that his client met with Knicks officials. Asked if such a meeting is scheduled to take place, Goodwin smiled and said, "No."

    "Objectively, we'll look at what would be the best opportunity for him to better himself for next year," Goodwin said. "After all, he's a free agent."

    Do the Pacers need Vin Baker? I don't think so. We have a good group of players and we don't need an alcoholic

    NO NO NO For his sake, he needs to stop playing bball...he has enough problems as is
    Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

    Sure, give him a try...we need a good body on the front line for the PO's. Do it as insurance and let him walk at the end of the year. We'd have to waive somebody (buyout that is) but he might like his chances of getting a ring here more than in NY.
    If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around..

    Sorry Geezer but he knows by now that he needs to go someplace as dysfunctional as he is - HE'LL BE A KNICK!!!

    Uh, not sure why I want this. A week ago I didn't want him. A week ago I didn't think the Knicks were desperate. But without KVH and with AH being out indefinitely - maybe for the season - we are.

    Though I really agree with the poster who said he needs to get away from the NBA completely - away from the lifestyle, the parties, etc. He hasn't been able to quit drinking in five years in the NBA. He needs to get his life back in order, THEN come back to the league.

    He'll end up in NY and what a bad combination that is - his problems, the Big Apple and the always sympathetic Knick fans? Good luck Vin.

    Oh I forgot to mention the fact that Thomas doesn't have a great track record in dealing with players and their personal problems.

    Another name for a 12-pack:

    Baker's dozen.

    The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

    We're not assuming. It's in the paper what his beverage of choice is that got him in trouble. It's really too bad. Wasn't Baker the guy who played at Hartfort? Who said he was going to walk him if his team lost in the first round of the NCAA tourney his last year (I think it was in Indy)?
    Two=the number 2
    Too=means "also"
    To=many definitions-also known as the one to use when the other 2 (two, too) do not apply.

    Their=shows ownership-'it is their house'
    They're=they are
    There=many definitions-also known as the one to use when the other 2 (their, they're) do not apply

    Sorry but it bugs me when these are used incorrectly when I read posts on PacersDigest.com.
