If we end up getting Lance for that contract we won a big gamble. Lance at 25 making under 9 million could look like one of the best contracts in the league.
Or he goes Artest and we're stuck with him for half a decade.

Well actually, Artest was traded fairly easily. It was Jackson and Tinsley we really had trouble getting rid of.

Don't wanna go through all that again.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

Or he wins an MVP and we have the best wing duo in the league locked up for half a decade. He's worth the risk.

For the price the Pacers are offering I can live with that but Lance still makes me nervous about team chemistry. As someone else said, they do not want to go through that again like Artest.

Maybe someday Lance will learn it is not about the stats but the W's.

If we're that concerned about Lance's locker room presence and the open market for him is not that good, why not give him the option of a shorter-term deal expiring at the end of 2015/2016, after which the cap is expected to go up significantly and Hibbert's contract expires. As a free agent that year, Lance could get a massive payday from the Pacers or someone else if he performs well over the next two seasons.

Not sure if Lance would be open to that at all, and I imagine it would be bad business on the Pacers' side to scale back the deal somewhat, but it is an interesting hypothetical.

That's the only way I want Lance back. If the Pacers have an early out of some kind. Truthfully, I just hope some other team offers him more and we can find a PG.

There was once a legitimate debate on this board whether that scuffle during a Golden State game either last year or two years ago was going to tank attendance to post-Cloud 9 levels.

No...I'm sensitive about a chemistry meltdown of historic levels last year when Lance seemed to be the one that rubbed players the wrong way more than anybody. Most of the players deserve blame, but IMO Lance was the biggest issue.

If every single knuckle head in the NBA started a brawl with the fans, we'd all have to sit behind glass like we were at a hockey game. The melee in Detroit was a once in a lifetime thing most likely. I find it highly unlikely Lance or a player like him would ever cause that.

None of the players publicly said Lance was the problem. It's all rumors and hearsay. For all we know, Chris Copeland could have been the problem

I'll cut Lavoy some slack. Half the roster's probably never heard his voice.

Such a bad comparison. What has Lance done that's like what Artest did pre-brawl? I missed it when Lance was drinking at halftime of games, punting a ball into the crowd, getting in a fight with Pat Riley, pulling down a player's pants, breaking TV cameras, asking for time off, and flipping off the crowd. There's a middle ground. Players can have a personality without being Ron Artest.

I blame Hibbert just as much, if not more, for that situation.

All players deserve blame because literally all of them played like garbage down the stretch.

You don't honestly think people are worried about Lance charging into the stands and starting a brawl with fans, do you? Comparing him to Artest does not mean people think that he will engage in the exact same sort of lunacy Ron partook in. My fear is Lance has his own brand of lunacy that might come to a head at an inopportune time such as, I don't know, the playoffs?

When the Pacers are good they are quite good, but I swear we have to have some of the most jeckyl and hyde individual players in all the league. It's unreal to have that many inconsistent players on the same team. Think about it. Sometimes Roy disappears. Sometimes Hill disappears. Sometimes Lance disappears. Sometimes PG disappears. Even Mr. consistent West was all over the place last year.

He's worth a risk to you, then your name isn't Herb Simon with HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS invested. Your only investment is your fanship. If Stephenson became a PM nightmare, those that want Stephenson no matter the cost wouldn't even acknowledge they were the ones who wanted to keep him. Comments would be made the handwriting was on the wall and the FO and ownership got greedy taking a chance. I believe this was seen with Artest's PR nightmare. Those that want seem to disappear like smoke when problems araise.
