Thread: Pacers Offered Lance 44 Million and he turned it Down?

    Whatever. I just want to see Larry, Frank, Donnie, and Pritch say that this team will be better if Lance walks. I want to see if they can keep a straight face and not see how much they screwed up by paying scrubs and role players so much while letting a young guy with huge potential walk.

    This whole sky is falling mentality in reference to Lance is just too much for me to handle.

    Really? Letting him walk? More like they offered what they could afford, and he walked. Afford is putting it nicely too, they'll have to dump salary just to pay him.

    They are dumping salary because of bad pickups and bad contracts given previously. Not Hill and Hibbert, but the bench guys who are too ineffective to play in every series but are making more than 3 million a year.

    This is the next excuse? How many non-rookies even make less than 3 million and play any role on the bench? None of those contracts are killing us. Copes deal isn't great in retrospect, but it wasn't a bad move assuming they weren't also planning on trading for Scola a month later. And a quality back up 7 footer in Ian is pretty fairly paid at 4 mil.

    That makes it sound like it's happening in the future. Present tense on a bid would sound weird and confusing.
    made = past tense
    making = present
    will make = future

    I don't think there is much to be made out of him saying "made" because the offer was in fact originally offered in the past. It could easily mean that it is no longer available, but it could also be meaningless in reference to the current state of the offer.

    If Lance doesn't re-sign here, than Bird should be fired ASAP. Not having enough $$ to pay lance, when we are paying our center 15 million to score 0 points and grab 0 rebounds is ridiculous. Cut Roy

    What if there is more to the story with the chemistry thing last year and Lance does have issues with some of his teammates? I'm starting to wonder. They could have been advised to keep it in house. Maybe he doesn't want to come back. I understand about getting all the money you can, but the longer this drags out the more I wonder. I don't think we heard everything that went on last year by a long shot.

    Lance has always been a bad teammate. This includes High School and College.

    Damn I almost hope Lance leaves so we can see all the stupid **** people say.

    That was bad enough, I can't imagine when he leaves.

    "and they didn’t think it was enough so it’s a simple situation."

    Well, he's saying they should go find more money on the market. He didn't emphasize they really wanted to keep Lance. Because he didn't do that, he makes me think he's ready to cut ties. ...yes, I am reading into it.

    Yes because cutting roy automatically removes him from the cap space..

    Well this is gonna really suck if the Hornets get Lance. I hope the front office learns from this and stops offering role players such long deals.

    I have a question regarding unrestricted free agents and sign and trades.... why do teams that sign UFA always consult the team the player played on last year about S&T's? Could we do a S&T with Stephenson if he wants that fifth year and would taking back any salary hurt the team any more than if Lance would have signed?

    Didn't you know when it comes to Roy a single bad thing trumps all the good he has done. He shows a single grumpy face it means he is a terrible teammate, even though 99% of the time when he is on the bench he is one of the most enthusiastic players. Scores 0 points and gets 0 rebounds in a single game once, and he is the worst player ever and his career is over. No matter what has happened before or since.

    As he should have. Without Roy we wouldn't be half the team we are right now.

    You will see the Hibbert of the 2012-2013 season if we don't re-sign Lance. Lance really takes away from Roys game in countless ways. Also I'd rather pay a defensive specialist in Hibbert 15 mil than someone like Hayward or Parsons 15 mil... Roy will turn it around this season and this is coming from someone who isn't a big supporter of Roy, but I still think he can return to his old self

    And what should we use to lure free agents in? Access to our stunning display of cornfields?

    We're not a big market and we don't have a Kobe or LeBron. Yet we still seem to get the guys we target. Sometimes we have to offer more years, sometimes we have to offer more money than other teams. It helps having Larry talking with prospective players, but when it comes down to it players are typically looking for the biggest gross number on their contracts.
    My prediction: Solomon Hill is going to lead the team in Surprisingly Good Plays for the year. -10/29/2014

    If Lance can go get his money, then good on him. He has every right to earn that.

    That being said

    If Lance thinks he is going to walk onto that Charlotte team and demand the ball as the number 1 option he is off his freaking rocker. Al Jefferson and Kemba will still be the guys running the lion share of the offense. I honestly do not see Charlotte as a good fit for Lance. Part of the reason why Lance thrived here is because PG is a huge focus of opposing defenses. Michael Kidd Gilchrist is one of the worst offensive wing players in the NBA. Kemba will draw his attention but Lance will be facing off against the best wing defender on the opposing team most every night. I do not think he will thrive there the way he might hope he will. That a is a young team that already has two corner stones and will be looking to develop their younger players as well. Lance will still be a 3rd option, perhaps a well paid one, but a third option none the less.

    I wish Lance all the luck if he goes and finds himself the offer he's been searching for. Honestly he deserves it because he's made peanuts the past two years considering his production, but if Lance takes an offer that is comparable to ours just to get out of here? Then I don't think he's chosen the right place to do that in Charlotte.
