I'm thinking Lance better take the offer.
    yep. he better.
pacers have given him a better offer than anyone else has been willing. it's a pretty simple matter really. many of us are aware of players over the years who never got paid like they were capable of. artest the player was a special talent who could have been around a max contract with his all round game. but he never got close to one of those deals because of his b.s.
image is everything and lance's image around the league is that he is talented but he can also be trouble. that stupid crap he was pulling in the miami playoffs (and let's face it- multiple other cases during the season) did him zero favors and he has only himself to blame for that.

Lance is an idiot. He needs to wake up, no one else has offered him ****, that should say something to him and his agent but I guess they're too dumb.

Does that sound to anyone else like Herb is ready to move on from Lance?

Sure does. Pacers would have every right to lower the offer if Lance and his agent come crawling back.

Sounds to me like Herb just said the same exact thing everyone has known for the last 2 weeks.

I hope we lower his offer... just because he's an ungrateful little *****.

What if there is more to the story with the chemistry thing last year and Lance does have issues with some of his teammates? I'm starting to wonder. They could have been advised to keep it in house. Maybe he doesn't want to come back. I understand about getting all the money you can, but the longer this drags out the more I wonder. I don't think we heard everything that went on last year by a long shot.

I've wondered if Bird was offended that Lance turned down his offer. For months now he's been saying we're going to make him a good offer and it will be up to him if he takes it or not. I'm starting to wonder if Larry and company are ready to move on from Lance.

I'm not convinced the Pacers would be a worse team without Lance. It depends on what kind of trade we could make to bring in a 5th starter.

Nothing because we have nothing to trade.

Sounds like an owner who isn't going to pay the LT to keep him.

I respectfully disagree. Despite what many on this board believe, Scola at 4.5 million is a good deal for anyone that knows how to use him. Also SHill and CJ Watson are valuable. Copeland can be a valuable player as well. None of those players alone can bring a starter, but a combination may.

Not to mention if we want to trade Hibbert. Of course, then we would have to find a starting center.

I don't think the Pacers are going to match.

That won't bring us in anything. Copeland could get a trade exception, Scola might get a role player, and Hill and Watson won't get anyone who can fill any role. The five starters are the only guys on the team who can get any sort of good player. The thing is, Hill, Hibbert, and West are all super overpaid and whoever we'd get would have to be a step down from them.

You don't even know if they've made an offer or what it would be.

The Simon quote "We made him a wonderful offer and they didn’t think it was enough so it’s a simple situation." FWIW, made is past tense.

How else would you expect him to phrase it?

Our bench is going to be so terrible next year if Lance leaves. CJ Watson will be the only player worth a damn on the whole bench.

Obviously it's still not a good bench if Lance stays, but Miles on the bench makes me feel a lot better about the unit as a whole.

Just because the offer was made in the past doesn't mean it's not still being offered.

I also wonder if we've got trades lined up depending on what Lance does. i wouldn't be surprised to see one of our forwards traded for a guard if Lance signs elsewhere.

That makes it sound like it's happening in the future. Present tense on a bid would sound weird and confusing.

OK, something like . . . We have a wonderful offer on the table.

The thing I see as interesting is Herb taking time to answer one question about Lance and using past tense. That seems to imply that he wanted to make a point. If he was not trying to make a point, he just ducks the question.

Now maybe this is much ado about nothing, but Herb is normally a very stay out of the way owner. Him saying anything is unusual, isn't it? To say only one thing and then clam up, just might mean that what he said is significant.
