You should be really proud of this performance. You played a great game and you proved that your football team has a bright future ahead of it.

USA are the Pacers of the soccer world. Tremendous defense and very little offense.
Except the USA was without their best striker after only 18 minutes.

That was a crazy and beautiful game. Frenetic pace and that extra time...oh man it was brilliant. If those millions who watched soccer in the US for the first or second time and didn't like what they saw, they never will. Yes, despite all that sadness about the elimination.

He really changed the complexion of the game. Biesler could cover Origi but he had no chance against Lukaku. He clearly won the game for Belgium.
Really smart from Wilmots there. Origi looks like a bright talent with good technique and decent move but he is still very raw. He wasn't bad but Wilmots introduced the bulldozer and pacy Lukaku in the game the right time. When USA defense was getting tired. What preceded De Bruyne's "call me Prince Harry" goal with Lukaku, was really eye catching.

Who's replacing Tim Howard...that should be the most pressing question going towards 2018.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Jozy has been in form for the USA though. And my response had nothing to do with Belgium, he said USA was like the Pacers with no offensive punch, and I was just pointing out a pretty good reason as to why.

Maybe, but the type of player Altidore is, I don't think Kompany would have had much problems marking him.

Maybe, but I think he creates space for Dempsey and Bradley to run off of him.

I feel worse now than when the Heat mercifully laid the Pacers to rest in the playoffs. Four more years...ugh.

He's not wrong there anyway. As clear an example of any that a manager can only do so much. Players have to take chances or else.

No I 100% agree with Klinnsy. If you're a poacher like Wondo, and your coach puts his faith in you and you get a feed to poach like that, you have to put it home, or at least put it on frame.

Ugh, heartbreaking. You can't fault our effort, what a game.

    Heartbreaking.

Next world cup, we need more and better attacking options. We need to find world class strikers. That will get us farther.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Anyone get a load of this one?

What a waste of space and the likes of her are only around due to the Wing-nut welfare state that exists in the US; Old white guys thrashing around in a country they don't recognise, spending hundreds of millions of dollars to bring back the 1950's. Institutional racism is alive and well in the States and it's people like her that help to stoke resentment against immigrants (and their game), distracting the masses from the real problem, the f#cking Oligarchs that are fleecing the country.

Yeah Ann Coulter sucks, but I don't mean to be a dick, but considering the rampant racism in European soccer, (including fans showing up in ****ing black face to games against Ghana and other African countries in this cup), I think the the criticism of the US on this level is a little unfair.

Also, think of Coulter as someone putting on an act. This is what she does. Best way to handle it is just ignore it.

Anyway the last 8 is going to be amazing. Shame our boys won't be in it, but they got revenge on Ghana, looked death in the eye and smiled, and made us all believe. Can't ask for more.

    So here's the deal.

    1. Proud of the fight, as all should be. But if US soccer is going to take that next step, we have to get to the point where we're not just cultivating effort/fight and applauding that, but cultivating skill as well. Simply put, too many players on that squad just are not World Cup-level. They lack basic soccer musts: first touch, tackle angling, possession skills, technical ability on crosses, clearances, etc. Effort and fight is great. Technical skill is the next must.

    2. The good news is...I think the US has a bright future with some players who can provide just that. You're looking to build around Yedlin, Green, Brooks and Altidore going forward. Figure Dempsey, Howard may have another Cup in them, guys like Fabian Johnson still in the fold, etc. I see a lot of young potential there for speed and technical ability. Now it just has to be cultivated over a 4-year process. (And Klinsmann HAS to figure out a backline ... surprised that didn't bite the US in this tournament earlier than it did!)

    3. Guys who cannot be a part of this roster again, in serious qualifying runs: Geoff Cameron, Chris Wondolowski, Graham Zusi, Brad Davis. Have to move past those level of players. God, were all four of them horrible this tournament.

    4. Felt for Jermaine Jones. Dude gave his all this tourney, but just looked dead out there from minute 1. Tried to will his way back into the game and damn near did so, but he had no legs to play on and there was no chance in hell he could/would be subbed out.

    5. This team actually could have used Landon Donovan today. Wondo couldn't make a sensible run for the life of him. (Also he sucks, end of story, any Wondo supporters can take their ball and go home now.)

    6. Gotta figure out what's wrong with Michael Bradley. Injury? If it's just decline of skill, you have to start thinking other central options for the '18 run.

    7. Really, really proud of Matt Besler. He had the error today, but who the hell would have thought he'd come on like he did in quals and end up playing as strong as he did in this World Cup? Just an awesome, underappreciated performance. Hats off. Hope he earns big bucks from it.

    8. Tim Howard...what more can you say?

    9. Really impressed with Klinsmann as well. If you only looked at what he is doing at the youth level, you'd realize how much he is making meaningful changes in the USMNT program. But at the senior level, too...he gets it. He gets the importance of dual-national players, and look at the impact they had in this tournament. He gets roster selection. He gets not coddling players. Just a smart guy, and there is no better choice to be calling the shots for this program. He has them in the right direction.

    10. It's gonna suck waiting for the USMNT to get back to qualifying... But if this was your first taste of USMNT, stick around for the 2018 WC qualifying cycle, 2016 Copa America, etc. It's a blast to watch this squad any time they take the field. All kinds of drama. Some of my most memorable moments watching this team have come in CONCACAF qualifying -- which is no easy task anymore! It's not quite the World Cup stage, but just as fun to watch the matches themselves.
