Default OT: Hunter S. Thompson commits suicide

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7005168/

Maybe nobody else cares about this. He wrote for ESPN's Page 2, so it seemed relevant for a sports board.

I wonder if Bush winning the election had anything to do with this? Hunter seemed like he was putting all his hope for our country in a new administration. And he really believed in Kerry. I'm just speculating.

Anyways, I enjoyed his columns (usually) and I'm just really shocked by the news.

I know the guy just died and so my comment may seem crass, but if Kerry giving away the election causes you to kill yourself...

    I don't know. I can't think of a way to finish.

To his family, I'm sorry for your loss.

I seriously doubt he killed himself because of Kerry.

Clearly, he would've killed himself Nov. 4th, 2004 if it was entirely tied to the presidential election. I'm just saying that it might've been an added bit of hopelessness for him. Whatever. It wasn't meant to open a debate.

Could it have had anything to do with the extremely large amount of drugs he did?

If you have not read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas I would recomend it. Very strange book but also very funny at times.

For anyone that would like to read a Hunter S Thompson column here is a very recenty penned (possibly his last) article for ESPN on "Shotgun Golf... with Bill Murray"

Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

    That's one weird article.

    Definitely still using drugs.

Hunter Thompson belonged to a long past era. The Great Shark Hunt has excellent essays about the early NFL and Muhammad Ali. Also, his book about the Hells Angels was both freaky and frightning. He will be missed.

Oh my god, that's horrible. He was one of my favorite writers.
