    Default Ron to Memphis??

"Ron Artest may be on the suspended list, but his name continues to come up in trade rumors. Artest, whom the Knicks would love to have, could end up in Memphis, according to one league source. It is unclear whom the Grizzlies would part with in order to make a deal work. But names being mentioned are Mike Miller, Bonzi Wells and Stromile Swift." New York Daily News

I dont know about trading Ron straight up for one of those 3, I dont think I would do that but if it was for Stro and Bonzi Wells I would probably like us to do that deal.

Ron is not going anywhere unless, perhaps, a top 10 player is offered in return, then you would at least have to look at it.

    I wouldn't mind having Mike Miller. It's still a lop-sided talent swap.

If James Posey and a Mike Miller or something were in there, I would love the trade, as much as I'd hate to see Ronnie go. It's actually a very even talent swap.

I think the Grizzlies feel that they could afford such a move because they now have Dontey (spelling) Jones starting and Bonzi to come off the bench.

I think there's no way Stromile Swift would be in a deal because I'd almost take him straight up, and/or possibly make a 3 team deal to get another talented guard.

If Ronnie were traded to the Knicks...somehow David Stern would re-instate him immediately after the deal, and give him back all his money, and clear his record, and give him a medal of bravery for his actions.

No! IF we do a trade it should be a quantity for quality trade! We have enough "ok" players and great depth. IF we trade Ron, we IMO have to include (atleast) one other players and get a REALLY good player back (top-10 or better). Otherwise, IMO it's not worth it.

Yeah I would love if Ron got to stay in Indy but if he got traded Swift and Bonzi would be nice.

Unless Bird is mis-leading us, I think Ron is hear for good. That is unless, like Able said, we get a top 10 player in return. I just read Larry Birds book [again] after another poster mentioned it a few weeks ago.

With that said, btown has a point.
I guess it was me that mentioned it, since I just read it, but one thing is a foregone conclusion if you read that book: Ron is and has everything LB likes in a player. INCLUDING the mad man factor

Let's be honest, he wanted Sprewell, he wanted Rodman, and you think he's going to give away Ron????

None of the 3 mentioned Grizzlie players blow me away . But if they take Croshere along with Artest there may be a workable trade.

Stromile Swift and Bonzi Wells make very close to what Artest and Croshere do 13.6 mil vs 14 mil., this season. So it fits capwise in a hypothecial trade.

Wells has 1 yr at 8 mil for next season left on his contract , Swift ,I fear is an unresticted free agent making 5.9 mil this season.

Artest 4years folling this season at 30 mil total Croshere 2 more seasons 18.4 mil.

Mike Miller is a base year compansation player.

To me any key to an Artest to Grizzzlies trade is Croshere's contract must go in it too. We know Croshere impressed the Lakers in the finals and they offered him money was West the gm then?

Not saying any Artest to Grizzlies trade would be perfect but they take Croshere's contract and there may be a workable trade there. The Grizzlies have depth everywhere but center so they have valuable trade pieces.

Another key sending Artest to Memphis we only play them 2 times a year.

Let me add to that Pau Gasol or ANY other Memphis player falls into the category I just mentioned above. A resigned Stromile Swift could change things though.

Who would want Ron? (In their sane minds...NY isn't sane)
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

About every team in the NBA. The real question HOW bad do all these teams want him/what are they offering us for him? The answer to that is probably not much. I mean Bonzi Wells??? And how is he an improvement to chemistry btw? Stromile will be gone when the season is over and I am not so enthousiastic about Mike Miller as some here seem to be. Certainly not for a one on one swap for Artest. It was mentioned there is a huge drop off for us in quality, but its not just huge it's GIGANTIC!

Only way I would deal with Memphis is IF they have resigned Swift to anything remotely close to a reasonable long term contract and than still I feel we would something, which we certainly won't be getting as long as Ron is suspended which is why IMO IF Ron is traded he will be traded after the suspension has been lifted/ended.

I don't want to trade Ron for two lesser players. We need quality, not quantity. Our bench is too deep as it is.

Stromile Swift can't be traded this season because he signed a one-year tender.

Just like last summer, any team in the NBA would want Ron Artest.

However, ALSO like last summer, nobody is going to give equal value for him. That a limb I doubt many GMs want to climb out on.

You're either going to take on a really good player that has personality issues, or a few lesser player with good personalities.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Which is why I wouldn't move him.

Could it be possible that since Swift can't be traded that Gasol could be the main cog in this deal. You all know how sources are normally one player off in a multi-player deal.

I don't like a starting frontcourt of Pau and Jermaine. Its a bit too small. And i wouldn't want pau off the bench.

And they'd never move Pau for Artest unless we threw Jermaine in.

I think it's obvious to the Pacers that nobody is going to offer anything close to equal value, hence the "we'll just keep him" mentions. IF someone offers a top 10 type we'll be waving him bye bye the next day.
If they DO move him, no way in h*ll do they even consider replacing one head case with another (Wells).

There are members on the Kings board I moderate who think it would be a great deal for both teams for us to swap Artest for Pedja. I'm curious - what do you guys think? WOULD you do it? Why or why not?

When this was being bandied about before all the trouble in Detroit, I thought it was worth considering from the Kings viewpoint. Now, however, I'll be honest. I think Artest is a headcase who would simply not fit into the scheme of things in Sacramento, but the point is if this came up AGAIN what would you all think about it?
