Looks like Wade did the same thing Reggie did.

Reggie signed a 2 year deal for 12M and retired after one season, so he was actually paid 12M for the year he played but half of that was "deferred" to help with the salary cap.

Everyone's freaking that Wade took a big pay cut... in the long run, he didn't.

He's getting less money to start out with but when he retires after 2 seasons that deal will look a lot better... at least on per seasons played.

I'd agree. But I think if it comes to an empasse, and he wants more than Larry is willing to give him. That's where I would not go into the tax for a guard who isn't a terrific shooter.

You wouldn't go into the tax for John Wall?

Regardless of whether Lance is a terrific shooter or not.....the Pacers won't be going into the LT PERIOD to re-sign him.

Maybe some clarification should be made here. There's a difference between what a Player is actually worth and what the Free Agent Market value of that Player is.

I think that Lance ( for all the headaches that he gives the Team ) is WORTH closer to $7 mil a year.

But his Free Agent Market value ( which is different than what a Player is ACTUALLY worth ) will bump what Teams will likely offer him....which closer to the $8 mil to 9 mil price range. Despite being slightly overpaid......this is within the range for a non-All Star Starting Guard in the League.

I think that Meeks was overpaid.....but I can see that he's more of a 1st Wing off the bench that will get regular rotational minutes. The price range for those type of Players is the Full MLE to 6+ mil a year ( see Players like Jarrett Jack )....overpaid IMHO....but within range for the type of Player he appears to be.

That Meeks deal might put an end to our hopes of re-signing Lance. I would think Lance has to demand at least 10 mil after seeing that.

Grimp I dont think you understand... You don't have to be a great shooter to get big $$... Rondo will get paid and he sucks at shooting. Hibbert cant finish worth **** and he makes 15 mil. They are handfuls and handfuls of guys that make big $$ that aren't great shooters.

Anyone else think TPTB want Lance to be the point guard next year and are looking to trade Hill? Just a guess, but I think that's what they'd like to see.
Or simply move Hill to the 2.

Lance may demand....but that doesn't mean that he will get that much.

Of course, Meeks getting paid that much doesn't help.......but if a Team REALLY wants to sign Lance.....they just have to slightly overpay him.

The key to signing Lance is to simply outbid the Pacers. Given our SalaryCap situation.....the bidding price to outbid the Pacers starts at a contract starting at $8.25 mil a year ( it may even be less if CJ is signed to that much ). Anything beyond that and the Pacers are over the LT. IMHO.....that's not too hard to beat. Even if you go to $8.5 mil a year.....that's slightly overpaying but acceptable when it comes to paying a Non-Elite Starting Combo Guard.

True, but I think he's taking into consideration that the Pacers desperately need shooters on this team regardless of position. The main reason I don't think Rondo would be the best fit for the Pacers. We would be adding an inconsistent shooter to a roster full of them.

I'm betting Lance goes to Atlanta. It makes too much sense.

That Meeks contract set a bad precedent for us.

What do the Pacers do if Lance is gone? Do they sign a SG or do they move Hill over and sign a PG? Options would be limited with our money too. Does anybody see either CJ as starting material?

Bird will go to "Plan B" aka the "No Lance? No Problem" backup Plan

    - sign the best UFA Guard ( preferably a halfway decent Starting PG ) that we can get with the Full MLE
    - Use the $4.28 mil TPE and $1.1 mil TPE to see if we can get any quality Players to fill the 2nd unit / bench.

Has anything surfaced that any other team has even tried to contact Lance or his agent for a meeting?
