Probably partly because of Riley's "run through the first door" comment as well. Riley's ego end up costing him best player on planet?
I missed that, and I keep seeing references to it in various shapes. Can anyone link? Was this after the finals?

Pat Riley challenged, entertained, humored, philosophized, lectured, reminisced, cautioned, explained, scolded, proselytized and captivated.

And the Heat president delivered a strongly worded message for Heat superstar LeBron James in the wake of the team's NBA Finals loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

"This stuff is hard. And you got to stay together, if you've got the guts. And you don't, find the first door and run out of it," Riley said Thursday at his annual end-of-the-season news conference.

He took them to four straight finals, it's hard to call LeBron a snake for wanting a couple perks along the way.
Having your "homies" kick it in the locker room or near the player area is unprofessional. Most Americans can't have their "boys" and "gals" hang out with them at the office or near the water cooler, or at the construction site. So what makes him so special? Also carrying hangers on? Bosh yeah ok, but Wade had a title before Lebron got there. If not for him, Lebron may still not have the two he has. If Lebron had such a problem with losing MM, he should've offered to pay his salary. He is a billionaire after all right? Send some of that McDonald's money Mike's way for a year or two.

Knight has a pulse but no handle.
Not sure what you mean by handle. Like ball handling skills? Cause Hill's has to be worse. Just pressure Hill up the court and he picks up his dribble.

I do agree that Knight is NOT better than Hill. Knight is better offensively since he's at least aggressive. Hill probably a better defender.

We lost to Miami many times because of Hill. I get it, their pressure defense is "a thing". But Hill had this "**** my pants" look on his face every time they came at him.

But they aren't on a team. Actors can have their friends visit the set as part of their perks package if the director allows it and their agent can negotiate such a deal. All that is laid out contractually, and actors don't quit the movie because their friends can't hang out with them on set. Musicians feed many other people in their entourage so they can do whatever they want in most cases. You can't say the big 3 is equal, and then make requests like that. In that case, Bosh and Wade should be allowed to have Gabrielle Union and whomever else attend practices as well.

yes, but they might not have to spend much. Boozer still gets every penny of his Chicago salary. They might get him for a modest bid of a few million, depending on how they gauge the interest of other possible bidders.
Even just spending a few million on Boozer would make only about 10m available in salary cap space for them if my math is right.

I'd just wait and see. Worst case scenario, Cleveland can still clear cap space for Love next summer. But Minnesota would probably back away from this stance in a few months. I think Cleveland can make the best offer without including Wiggins.

Ultimately, who knows. Minnesota might prefer to be slightly more competitive short term. I'd rather get Bennett, Waiters, a bunch of picks.

Not really. Between LeBron (even if he opts out he'll have a cap hold) and Irving they won't have room.

Interesting hearing some of the stories leaking out of Miami on the radio, Dan LeBatard mostly.

Besides "going home" Lebron left in part because..

-He was tired of carrying those hangers-on,
-He didn't like being told by Pat Riley that his buddies can't hang out in the locker room or in the practice arena,
-He got nowhere with the idea that he should be able to tell Pat Riley to NOT amnesty Mike Miller and to NOT salary dump Joel Anthony,
-He got nowhere on a host of other littler things, like telling Spo/Pat Riley that he'd rather not take the team plane back from a road trip so that he can attend Chris Paul's party instead, then catch up to the team by taking a charter the next day.

Plus the Las Vegas meetings with Riley and Wade came after he had already written a draft of the SI letter.

Miami is finding that sleeping with snakes can get you some snake bites.
If this is true then my respect for Riley has increased even more so.

That's just two max contracts. Keep Wiggins, move everyone else. They'd have about 20 mil, and Love's max is below that.

Of course, it's the worst case scenario. Preferably they'd give that "everyone else" and some picks to the Wolves right now and be safe. If he ends up on the Warriors and they can offer him more money, it will be hard to get him out of there.

shocking that leaks are dropping about how LeBron was a bad apple in Miami and Riley was above that sort of behavior...

They also have Irving's 16 million dollar contract. The last finals showed you need a respectable bench if you really want to compete, if you gave 3 max contracts getting minimum salary players is hard..

Yes, that's what I mean by two max contracts. The 2nd one is Kyrie.

Anyway, are you saying they shouldn't get Love at all?

Yes, they wouldn't have a good bench right from the start.

But long term they'd be fine. Dan Gilbert isn't Micky Arison. Gilbert used to spend a lot of those Cavs teams, more than Arison, and that's when the CBA was much worse for owners. I don't expect the Cavs to play Joel Anthony, Norris Cole or Udonis Haslem level players for big minutes in key playoff games a few years from now. The key for the Cavs is to have as strong core group as possible. If they have LeBron, Love, Kyrie and preferably keep Wiggins, they'll be great. Gilbert's money will find role players.
