You make good points and could be right. If things fall into place for them though, I think they fall around #3 or #4 in the east. We are talking the Eastern Conference. The Wizards were probably the third best team last year.
Good call about Washington. I completely forgot about them. I guess we disagree about Miami's future prospects. We shall see next season.

From a USA Today story about Deng's decision.

Deng, a two-time All-Star, was also being courted by the Atlanta Hawks and, to a lesser degree, the Dallas Mavericks. But a financial gap existed in negotiations with the Hawks that made that situation less desirable, and the Dallas situation was untenable because of a number of factors.

Not only are the Mavericks still waiting on word from the Houston Rockets on whether they will match the three-year, $46 million offer sheet given to restricted free agent small forward Chandler Parsons, but the Mavericks' apparent preference to pursue free agent guard Lance Stephenson if they lost out on Parsons was a factor.

If Houston matches on Parsons, we lose Lance.

Has nothing to do with the players union. This is different from elegibility requirements or rookie pay scales.
Interesting. Being that I am generally a free market guy I wish they would do away with the college requirement to be draft eligible. I know they will probably go the other way and increase the amount of time in college (or age) to be eligible, but if a team wants to spend a high lottery pick on an 18 year old why not?

Time to play....WHEEL OF NBA FORTUNE! Would be interesting if there was some way to manage that thing.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Has nothing to do with college or experience. Nba teams got sick of being forced to play Russian roulette with high school kids they have have almost no meaningful tape on.

Nba scouts can't really do their job if they can at least see a prospect play against college level competition.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Free agent forward Luol Deng has agreed to a two-year, $20 million deal with the Miami Heat, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

He got the money that Pierce wanted. I really didn't think Deng would get this type money. Now, he and Granger can make up for the loss of Lebron. LOL

Deal will include a player option on the second year of Deng's deal, source tells Yahoo.

It seems there has been a # of PO in the 2nd year of signings as of late.

I think the competition level is already bad enough in the NBA. Just look at the East..only a few teams over .500 in the conference..I think it is directly associated with the fact that a lot of kids just don't really know how to play the game anymore. I hope they increase the age limit. I think to help better the competition and skill level, players should have to stay longer.

I guess in my view that was part of the intrigue of the whole process. You could wind up with Kobe Bryant or Korleone Young.

Wait a minute, the Heat were characterized by Lebron having to be borderline God-like to carry his team as far as they went. They then lose Lebron and add Luol Deng and they are still contenders? Color me skeptical.

This may be bold, but I see Miami as a 6-7-8 seed type team. They will have to deal with Chicago, Indiana, Cleveland, Charlotte, and Atlanta who I believe will be better than them. You also have Brooklyn and New York who can get hot I suppose.

Look at Miami's team. Their best big is Chris Bosh. They used their draft pick on Shabazz Napier and I don't see any free agent still available that can give them 25-30 minutes and rebound the ball. They are also much less athletic which hurts their ability to trap, cause turnovers and run for easy buckets. This is a really flawed team without much chance to make substantial improvements IMO.

Has Birdman signed anywhere as of yet?

Well, I'm officially nervous as to what happens next.

Houston basically holds the Pacers fate in their hands. The way these negotiations have gone, if Cuban swoops in and offers a few mil/year more to play in Dallas, it appears that Lance will jump at the extra $. I can't blame him, of course. I would be disappointed, but can't blame the guy for taking the best offer out there.

Hoping that Houston lets Parsons walk.

Lance may very well end up a Maverick, but at this point he's got to feel like the last kid left on the playground when you are picking kickball teams. I hope all this humbles him a bit instead of inspiring him to play more stat/hero ball.

Well if Houston doesn't match... then Lance will be ours by default... he's lucky we don't lower his offer

We all saw how he reacted to his All-Star snub. Even if we get him 'by default', I don't think we need to rub salt in the wounds to his ego any more than this process already has.

    With a 2nd year option?
Is that a sign that Charlotte won't be going after Stephenson?

Hey, the good news is that if their pick turns out bad they have plenty of dollar bills to wipe away their tears.

And of course that is their argument. Pretty easy to make 20 years after the fact. The fact is Kobe went 13th and I didn't see anyone mortgage their future to move up and acquire him.

Because he was dunking on 16-17 year old kids who were working the fry grill at McDonald's or studying to get into college and no one knew what to make of him.

If he goes to duke for a year then theres much less of an issue once scouts see him lighting up vince carter in the ACC.

Look at the laundry list of highschool guys that got drafted between Garnett in 1995 and lebron in 2003. Almost every single one was taken far from where they belonged. It was nearly impossible to accurately scout them.
