He will lead the charge to make a players league into a players only league. Former players will be ushered in to be owners. Individualization of the league will promptly cripple long-term fan interest. Competition will be limited to a few teams. It will be a reverse expansion. Lebron has said that he wants the league consolidated. You can't have that and have the mega-millions. But if it is attempted we can see a steady decrease in ticket sales. Small business owners will not see it as a customer relations. Athletes with little business understanding will bury the league all for the sake of more revenue shares.
We're already starting to see a bit of it with players-immediately-turned-coaches like Kidd and Fisher.

Pretty much. LeBron has made a complete mockery of the CBA. If Cleveland wins a title or two, I look for a looooong lockout when the next CBA negotiations begin.
LeBron turned the NBA offseason into the biggest event of the summer in all of American sports. You think the NBA is unhappy about that?

LeBron made his FA signing last time into the biggest event of the summer in all of American sports, and then the NBA had a long lockout, so it's not like LeBron's popularity can overcome everything.

Listening to the BS Report podcast with Brian Windhorst the other day. Windhorst is pretty close to the Lebron camp, and as much as it makes me feel ill hearing about Lebron's shenanigans, it was pretty interesting.

Simmons made the point that it was no accident that Wiggins and Bennett's names were left out of the letter (while it mentioned looking forward to playing with Dion Waiters & Tristan Thompson). Windhorst pretty much confirmed that, saying that Lebron had known about Love for Wiggins/Bennett trade for weeks.

Windhorst described Lebron as 'function co-owner of the Cavs'. Nothing against that I guess, but I just hate the false narrative of 'aw shucks, I'm just going to play with my home team, and I don't know anything about plans to team up with Kevin Love'.

Lebron can always pull the 'going home' card whenever his integrity is questioned.

Having said that though, the Cavs IMO are still only slight favourites to win the East. Their potential line up of Irving-Waiters-Lebron-Love-Varejao isn't gonna make a whole lot of stops. It's fairly poor defensively. If D Rose can stay healthy then I would fancy them in a series against this Cavs team.

    On what basis?

The golden goose for the players is more revenue share and more control of the league. They want more. That is the point.

Because the owners who are now getting nine to ten figures for franchises were crying poverty. Not because of LeBron James.

And the owners destroyed the players in the last lockout, which is helping the value of NBA franchises.

It's not Lebron's fault that franchises like Minny repeatedly fail to build winning teams around their super stars. If Kahn doesn't draft Rubio and Johnny Flynn back to back and then save his 5 years max deal for Rubio instead of Love this never happens. Lebron isn't making a mockery of the CBA, ****** franchises like Minnesota are making a mockery of themselves....over....and over....and over. It doesn't matter what the CBA rules if you have idiots drafting two point guards back to back in the first 6 picks and one of them isn't even Steph Curry when he was AVAILABLE then you are going to have horrible teams that can be taken advantage of repeatedly.

For the record, Cleveland is one of those horrible franchises for the most part and it's the reason they lost Lebron in the first place.

I don't think it's about killing the goose. It's 2 groups that have the goose and one of those groups could kill off the other and have the whole goose to themselves.

I'm sure the Cleveland ownership group is really pissed at Lebron for basically tripling their franchises value overnight

Well what do we think is going to happen is the all the best players continue to team up on just a handfull of teams?

Having a top heavy league, while the majority of teams fight over scraps, isn't a very good way to grow the league. Might be a good way to grow that handfull of teams, but not the league.

That's exactly what "killing the golden goose means." Neither group can have it for themselves and they'll kill it trying to get greedy.

The NFL and NBA players have both tried staging their own games during strikes/lockouts. Both parties completely embarrassed themselves. No different than the NFL using replacement players in the late 80's.

Where is this happening? I don't see all these super teams being formed. The Los Angeles Lakers could have formed on this summer and struck out multiple times.

So because they struck out this summer, they will in future summers? The point isn't about the present, but the future.

Having superstars team up on just a few select teams will hurt the NBA, IF it continues to happen in the future.

I'm just saying I don't see all these super teams forming. First of all it's not like every team has the cap space and every star is not Lebron. It's not going to happen.

The Cavs signed one player, drafted the second and had the resources to trade a really good asset for the third.

Only one player "teamed up" in Cleveland, and it was a player they drafted in the first place.

Can anyone really say Minnesota got a bad deal for Love? How is this forming a super team? IF Minnesota can somehow manage to not **** this up, they should have a franchise player for the next decade now.

EDIT: Kstat basically beat me to it.

This has been happening for 30 years. The NBA biggest growth was the 1980's, when Boston, with 4 hall of famers, consistently played the Lakers, with 3 hall of famers, in the Finals.

Wiggins for Love when Minnesota had very little leverage is basically stealing. LeBron going to Cleveland is the best thing that's happened to Minnesota in the last 5 years.

And if you want to complain about anything, complain about the Cavs winning the lottery for the 3rd time in 4 years with the 9th best chance. That's basically the tipping point for everything that's happened since.

Jordan was printing money for the last two decades and he was still the poorest owner when he bought in. NBA players are rich, but not nearly wealthy enough to buy an NBA franchise, especially with their spending habits.
