Thread: Offseason News, Trades, Rumors, Etc.

I'm really starting to question the competency of our talent evaluation. It has been subpar since the moment we signed Green.

It's so weird to go from the top 5 to the bottom 5 in such a short period. Who did we lose that was good, and who did we gain that is bad? Was it Morway? Is it a scout? Is it Pritchard or Donnie? Bleh.

Put it this way. Brooks couldn't get off the bench for the Lakers with a coach that doesn't value defense or shot selection. That's how bad Brooks is

I don't get why they couldn't just trade his draft rights. This has been in the works by the NBA.
Because his draft rights count for $0 while they count $5.5 million if he's signed. It's easier to match salaries for trade purposes.

Signing a volume shooter whose only good season was on a bad Nets team? Where have I heard that one before?

He never really got mins...the Nets added JJ and Pierce and then his mins were really limited
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

I think Morway was far more talented than people give him credit for and I think Pritchard has been given far to much credit over the years.

    That's just my opinion though.

On the plus side, signing MarShon probably means we're going to tank the year, whether it's intentional or not. So, yay?

    Hill/Watson
    Miles/Stuckey
    Solo/Brooks
    West/Scola
    Hibbert/Mahinmi

Seems like the likely line-up if we sign Brooks.

I have very little confidence in Vogel putting together a lineup that complements each other. Would it not surprise u if Vogel put another Ball Dominant Guard that has no range like Stuckey next to GH/West/Hibbert?

I just think that Bird hired Grimp as part of his staff.

You make it sound like we have money to sign players. We are only 2 million dollars under the tax, most likely we use it to sign someone for the vet minimum.

I'd rather keep the money and put 4 players out there.

What is the big deal with signing Brooks for 1-2m at the most? He is young and has showed promise at times, we aren't winning a title this year, I say why not.

Because he's not good. He showed "promise" 3 years ago. He's barely even been able to get off the bench for awful teams here recently.

Yeah, that's the problem. I don't think anyone on this board is as big of a jerk in person as they come across on here. Except maybe Nuntius. Dude is impossibly nice.

Pacers refuse to tank, most players have already been scooped up, with our limited budget, we have very few options.

I would have rather seen us pick up one of the undrafted guys than someone who's proven to be a D league quality player.

I don't think there is any expectation of anything more than a one-year fill in for Brooks. He has a skill that the Pacers need. He is a guy that can generate offense off the bounce. Losing both Paul and Stephenson means losing both the guys that did that kind of scoring for the Pacers. I doubt that Brooks would be a regular rotation guy, but rather a specialist that plays when there is a need for what he does.

There are options to increase the CapSpace.

The question is whether the FO would be willing to make those moves to give us some more breathing space or not.

The other obvious question is whether there are any Players that can be had for the additional CapSpace or not.

I seriously wonder what the FO fascination with low-basketball IQ/poor shot selection type Players is.

Marshon Brooks looks like Gerald Green Part 2 to me.

I get that, if he is awful he's at the end of the bench, whats the problem? If he can improve here in our system and get back to what he showed 3 years ago maybe he can stay here as a bench piece when PG gets back if Stuckey plays well and earns a big contract or falters here.

Before anyone gets too upset about MarShon Brooks, according to The Bleacher Report, the Pacers are also considering Gary Forbes.

I think in the next day or two, we are going rumors of a couple of more players the Pacers are interested in.

how the hell could anyone get pissed about MarShon Brooks? people were trying to justify RODNEY STUCKEY when we were trying to win a title, now it's a lost season and they're mad about MarShon Brooks? c'mon people.

I just really don't understand how anyone could be upset with MarShon Brooks, I mean there is literally no downside to doing it. Whats the problem? Its going to be a 1 year vet minimum deal in all likelihood.

I was a big fan of his coming out of college, he has tons of natural scoring ability, but he has seemed unfocused and undisciplined thus far in his career. I still think some maturity and a good coaching staff can make him into a good piece of the puzzle.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

Despite Stuckey being a ball dominant guard....he's IMHO more proven. I've never been a fan of Brooks.

I think that the Pacers have options beyond the "sign a Player to the Vet Minimum" option....but they are choosing to go with this route ( which I see as "Gerald Green Part 2" ).
