^even if in the abstract you might be able to defend what he said (and I am not!), saying what he did the context of the Ray Rice situation was asinine.

Kinda with you here. What I heard him say is that he has sisters, and he would clock any guy that laid a hand on them. The fact that SAS has had to back peddle/clarify as much as he has should show you that there is a problem with what he said in the first place.

What is amazing to me... is that it seems that a certain percentage of the population hear only what they want to hear and make connections inferring something totally not there or intended by the person speaking....... Here is just a crude example...
If SAS, or anyone for that matter had made the comment , " I don't like the idea of women playing in the NFL"

It would get twisted by these certain group of people, into that he was a misogynist, that he hated women , and that he believed women didn't have the same rights as men , that they should be in the kitchen making a sandwich instead of trying to play professional football with men .

Then the next thing you know, the thought police will be calling for the person in the above example to issue a public apology and go through "counseling" ...

Plumlee reminds me of a young Dale Davis. Good rebounding and he contests shots well on defense and his offensive game is very raw just like DD's was coming out of college.

There really isn't anything wrong with what he said unless you take it in a way he clearly did not mean.

I'll just take Thon Maker he is 250x better than Smits and is younger. Kid will be the 1st pick in the draft if he stays healthy by far the best HS prospect I have ever seen live. I was a youngin but I do remember watching Greg Oden. I think Thon is a better spect.

I hope the little prick gets fired. I'm not a violent man, but I would have a hard time to not kick his *** if I ever saw him. I would for sure tell him to grow the **** up and stop throwing tantrums on national tv.

That's what ESPN wants him and Bayless to do. There's a reason that show is on at 10 in the morning. I hate it and refuse to watch, but that's the nature of the show. Shock jock TV.

yeah but does his pops have NBA experience?

speaking of which, what would be the best starting 5 you could have if you only could pick players whose pops played in the league?

    Glen Rice Jr
    Tim Hardaway Jr
Glenn Robinson III (May not actually make NBA team)
    Steph Curry (Dell Curry)
    Klay Thomson (Mychal Thomspon)

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch..did Kobe's dad ever play NBA or just Europe? And don't nobody say LeBron James (Delote West)...

yeah, Kobe's dad had a decent NBA career as a scorer. then there's guys like Love and Horford. good ole Dunleavy Jr, Jalen Rose. Wiggins's and Parker's dads both played in the NBA.

so like, Steph/Klay/Rose/Love/Horford. insert Wiggins or Jabari for Jalen/Klay if they live up to the hype, that's pretty damn good, at putting up a billion points anyway.

Unless Smith says ..... Hey man, I think the building is on fire... we need to get the hell outta here!

Why would anyone care what he has to say about anything.

Is anyone really shocked by now that the players not named Murphy or Dunleavy disliked O'Brien as much as we did?

Normally I don't like to comment on non-basketball stuff, but I think you're kinda off here.

    1. "he would clock any guy that laid a hand on them" - this is just tough guy talk. If a professional athlete were to hit one of his sisters, SAS or any other normal person isn't going to "clock" anyone without getting creamed for their trouble. The actual correct response is to call the police, and a woman can do that just as easily as a man, so please save the macho guy bluster.

    2. "he warns his sisters to be careful with what they say" - classic victim blaming. Women tend to be smaller physically than men, so should be careful not to provoke them? Suppose there are 2 guys, one bigger than the other. Would you give the same advice to the smaller guy? If we were living in a jungle, maybe. But in a civilized society, I'd like to think there's no place for physical violence as a response to being provoked.

Put those 2 points together, the problem with what SAS said is that it confirms the worldview that men are the ones who are supposed to dish out violence, while women are supposed to receive it. The real answer is, violence is a bad thing and should be appropriately penalized. It really doesn't matter whether one is male or female.

    This.

Any guy that uses this line is the same guy that says "she shouldn't have been dressed that way" to a rape victim.

Women aren't people, apparently. Men are, but women basically need to know their place and not step out of line, for fear they may provoke a man's uncontrollable wrath. Yeah it might be wrong, but she shouldn't have asked for it...

SAS can have this caveman mentality. He just can't have it on ESPN, or any other form of entertainment that thrives on sponsorship dollars. Seeing as roughly 50% of consumers are women, I'm guessing that's not a base you'd like to belittle.

OK, consider this an official warning. The SAS stuff needs to go to another thread, preferably in Market Square. I don't have time to sort through it all and move it, but this thread should not get derailed.
