2013 game 6 vs NY, Lance led us to a series clinching victory. Without his performance in that game, we don't get past the Knicks. Do you really think CJ Miles can carry us to a series clinching win?
I like how that one game represents what Lance brought, as opposed to the other 5 games when he averaged (by sight) around 9pts.

What if someone from a school of business or management school were to ask, How did you do this? How did you get the Pacers turned around? Is there a general approach you've taken that can be summarized?

We were good in 2011-2012 because we had Danny Granger. We sucked the next year until Lance became a starter. Two years of Lance starting at SG got us to two ECF's. You cannot replace Lance with random guys like CJ Miles and expect the same. I will support Miles, but he was brought here to come off the bench
I am going to disagree that we turned the season around because Lance started.. I would say it had more to do with PG becoming a #1 option and Hill and West keeping is afloat that year.

Thompson is an awful defender. That's why the Kings keep giving up on him. Nice offensive repertoire but he isn't the solution to anyone's problems as a starter.

But who is teaching him defense in Sacramento? Every player has a defensive fault or two. But Sacramento's philosophy for years has been "we'll out shoot you." So why on earth would he even give defense a second thought when like no one else is? Cousins is a good defender now but if the team philosophy doesn't change soon, even he will just stop playing it. In Indiana, Vogel can turn him into a good defender with big man skills. That's the one thing Vogel does well, defense.

And Thompson has the tools to play it. But I wouldn't take the defense of anyone playing on GSW, Sac, or Denver at face value. Those teams simply are built to out-shoot-you. That's what they're good at, so that's what they do.

Sacramento is one giant mess, but that doesn't change the fact Thompson is often singled out for being the weak link on a team of weak links.

He's never going to be a good defender. The best that any team can do is hide him.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

I seem to recall George Hill actually leading us to a victory in 2013 playoffs, yet he supposedly sucks.
HYYYYYYPERBOOOLE...... He's pretty decent to good, but no way near as good with us as he could be, because of the role he has had to play in. With Lance gone I think its safe to say he will have to function as a PG even more then he has for us in the past.... awesome .

Maybe I'm just stupid, I just don't get it. How is Parsons' contract going to change based on whether they sign Bosh before or after?

To me it works out 2 ways, both with the same result if they chose to keep Parsons and sign Bosh.

    A. Sign Bosh to Max, match Dallas' offer to Parsons.
    B. Match Dallas' offer to Parsons, Sign Bosh to max.

    What am I missing?
They can go over the cap to sign their own free agent. They can't do that to sign Bosh. Thus the order of things.

You can sign Bosh first with cap space, then go over the cap to sign Parsons, since he was on your team.

If you sign Parsons first, you don't have enough cap space to offer Bosh the max, and you cannot go over the cap to sign Bosh, since he was not on your team.

Well maybe a change of scenery and something to play for will help. I just know we have to get his skill-set into our center position. I'd love Faried at center. He defends and has a high motor. But at 6'8? If only he were three inches taller.

Why does it seem that so many on here only see the faults of our players? Is it because most people only watch the Pacers play? I don't get it.

I'm guessing its because the 2014 playoffs left little to be positive about.

If Lance is worth 5 spots in the playoffs, then why in the hell are we paying Paul George the 5 year max?

Also, we mention that one game whenever talking about Lance, but ignore the fact that Roy was an absolute BEAST in the Miami series that year. My biggest beef is the way we act like Lance is so consistent or something. The whole team has ups and downs, but Hill and Roy take huge flack for it while Lance rarely does.

Lance has steadily built and improved his game. He was even a most improved candidate. Roy's game went in the toilet. GHill just kind of plateaued.

Everyone moving Chicago ahead of us, here is what I Have to say, as of yet, they have signed NO ONE. Derrick Rose has played like 15 basketball games in the past two years, and they are probably going to amnesty Carlos Boozer who for as much flack as he takes is one of maybe 3 reliable scorers on their entire roster.

Yes. You realize that Danny Granger was still playing for the Pacers and good before Lance blew up, right?
And PG is even better than what Lance was. So hypothetically (utilizing this way of thinking) if you have PG who is better than what Granger was that season, plus another player who can contribute as a 5th option glue guy (we have yet to know who that is, but I don't think 8, 3, and 2 is terribly irreplaceable) then why wouldn't we be fine?
