Doubt they're the only team to do this.

Spikes, Talib say Patriots file false injury reports

Two former Patriots say the team put false information about them on official injury reports.

Brandon Spikes and Aqib Talib have both said since leaving New England in free agency that when they were on the Patriots last year, the team gave them injury designations that weren’t accurate. Spikes ended last season on injured reserve with a knee injury, and there were reports that Patriots coach Bill Belichick actually put Spikes on IR because Spikes had shown up late to practice. Spikes seemed to confirm that in an interview on WGR in Buffalo.

“I heard they put me on IR and stuff like that. That was just a false report,” Spikes said, via ESPN.com. “That’s just how things go there. Almost like what happened with Talib and his hip.”

Talib was on injury reports last season with hip injuries, but after signing with the Broncos he said he never had a hip injury.

“The Patriots have their way of reporting stuff, but I haven’t had a hip problem since Tampa,” Talib said. “The injury I had was actually a quad injury. It was reported as a hip injury, but that’s how they do things.”

That’s not how the NFL wants teams to do things. The league office may look into the possibility that the Patriots are playing fast and loose with injury reports.

What if someone from a school of business or management school were to ask, How did you do this? How did you get the Pacers turned around? Is there a general approach you've taken that can be summarized?

Probably an FU to the NFL about disclosing injuries which lets face it are only needed by the NFL to set odds on games in Vegas.

These reports surface about the Pats all the time.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

A - it is shady to a degree

I won't say much about the Pats doing it because the Colts weren't always accurate with theirs...

I think all teams do this to a certain extent. Makes the other team have a little more of a difficult time game planning for them.

They don't have to cut a player, and allow somebody else to sign him. But they get to sign somebody else to take his place. Sounds like they benefit.

Denying the league of Spikes, what a tradgedy, and Aqib was still hurt. It isn't great, but I don't see a big deal.

It is still benefiting and cheating regardless of what you think of those particular players

As fans of a team that implemented a complete organizational tank job in 2011 so that we'd be gifted the next phenom, we probably don't have much room to question the ethics of other organizations.

So the actions of an organization limits it's fans ability to give their thoughts?

The Colts tanking doesn't have anything to do with the Patriots always seemingly being in some sort of shady situation, nor my ability to point it out.

So people here think the Colts tanked for Luck? I guess I wouldn't put it past Irsay but how do you get the players to go along here? I mean all the guys that were cut at the expense of Luck could care less about him being drafted. I mean they have contracts etc on the line here.

I don't believe the Colts lost those games on purpose in 2011. You can argue that management left the roster barren on purpose but I don't think anyone would call having a crappy roster to be cheating. The Colts did win 2 out of the last 3 games. They could have easily lost the 1st pick with that last hurrah, especially if they had won the last one.

Even if we assume the Colts tanked, it's still not in the same league as any of the stuff that the Patriots have gotten caught doing.

I don't think it was a tank in the sense of "hey guys, we need you to deliberately not make catches and whiff on tackles". A guy like Wayne (who had over 900 yards that year) is way too prideful for that.

HOWEVER, I do think that once it became clear that we just couldn't win any games (competed in some games at the beginning of the year, but lost them), the organization did everything it could to foster an environment that would continue to give us the best chance at losing. We kept Caldwell, hung with Painter too long, and didn't pick up any players (despite being first on the waivers). We stayed with everything that wasn't working.

Yeah IMO the players didn't lose on purpose, but with the team they put together they couldn't win "on purpose" to save their lives. As for the Patriots doing something wrong...surprise surprise. I also believe another benefit of disclosing the wrong injuries, especially with an upcoming free agent like Talib, if other organizations thought he had a reoccurring hip injury(that he also had in Tampa), they wouldn't throw as much money at him, allowing the Patriots to possibly sign him for less.
