Basically after that, everything Kstat said above would happen and the NBA would be a 5 or 6 team league. Pretty good basketball though.
Yeah, but none of us could afford to watch it between the $500 balcony seats and pay-per-view only league pass.

Ironically the salaries would plummet with the limited competition, as would the TV revenue. The NBA would implode on itself and fold.

The nba needs the smaller markets to exist, even if they aren't particularly successful.

Well, it's good that the players work for the agents, and not the other way around...
If you are the number 1 pick, like Embiid has a chance to be, using this year's rookie scale (it will go up a little next year) he would be owed $33,523,824 over the course of his rookie scale contract.

If he was the 5th pick, that number drops down to $22,169,502. At 10, it drops to $14,867,525. At 15, it drops all the way to $12,802,737.

You are absolutely talking about him turning down tens of millions of dollars in guaranteed money.

Something tells me that Joel Embiid, a 20 year old from Cameroon, who has been playing basketball for like 3 years, is not going to be likely to dictate terms of the business side of his NBA career right off the bat.

Embed really doesn't have a chance to go #1 anymore with the back scare, but that's beside the point.

He'd sign a short term contract, increase his value in the market several times over playing with Lebron on the rock star team, and either Miami or someone else would max him out soon after.

If not Embied, it'll be Parker, or Wiggins and Lebron can spend an entire year of free time hanging out at his school recruiting him, when owners, agents and GMs can't touch him.

You're also missing the obvious point that Miami WOULD have the cap room to give any rookie #1 pick money anyway, so the discussion is moot.

Right... Being from Cameroon means that he's basically a puppet. No will of his own whatsoever.
