Default How about Mahinmi playing instead of Scola when Bynum is ready to play

How about Mahinmi and Bynum playing together? I realize the first thought is that will hurt our offense - no outside or midrange shooting. I wonder if we'll see it it at times. Can Ian defend against power forwards? Probably as well as Scola? I think probably better than Scola.

I know some of you are wanting Copeland to get Scola's minutes, but I think we should look at playing Ian and Bynum together.

Its not a terrible Idea. This would be great for rebounding and defense its not like clogging the middle would hurt the penetration and shooting we don't have on that unit anyways.

This thought crossed my mind as well but I think that would make us really slow in transition.

I guess it could work against certain teams.

I would rather Lavoy Allen guard PFs if we are going defense only at that spot.

I would have Ian play against almost all athletic 4's...and any with a post game.

Its not as if we are fast in transition anyway.

Ian is much, much faster than Luis.

What if someone from a school of business or management school were to ask, How did you do this? How did you get the Pacers turned around? Is there a general approach you've taken that can be summarized?

    Larry Bird: Yeah, patience.

Isn't the problem that Luis isn't giving us the offense we need? Given that, the only reason to move Ian to PF is if we think Bynum will be a scoring asset who can't defend.

Why? Is Ian slower than Scola?

When Ian first got here, we saw him paired with Roy very sparingly. I thought that was a very effective combo, though. Whether a Bynum/Ian combo can work is going to need to wait until we see what Bynum looks like on the court. Can he move at all?
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

I don't know if my idea is a good one or not. But the idea is that Bynum will maybe be our primary scorer on the second unit, so with more scoring at center than what Ian gives us right now we can have less scoring at power forward with Ian replacing Scola.

But like I posted, I am not sold on this idea, but wanted to read other opinions. won't know obviously until it is tried.

I have always wanted to see Ian come in when David Sits and Hibbert is still in, I think him at the four would be interesting.

I could see it if the matchups were right. However, my main concern would be if the paint would get too clogged since Bynum and Mahinmi can't really score from midrange at all.

i think both would clog the lane and negate what evan turner and lance do best.

So let me get this straight.....you guys wanna sit Scola for a guy who can't score? Scola as bad as he's shooting right now, can still shoot better than Ian Mahinmi. Our 2nd unit needs more offense. Bynum needs to be surrounded with shooters. Watson, Cope, Rasual, and Evan. DONE. Scola shouldn't see the floor again till game #1 vs The Hawks.

I think both of them have played well all year. Ian is a better defensive big man while Scola is a better offensive big. They both play well

Wouldn't be a bad idea...however, as of now, Ian is injured - bruised ribs I believe

I doubt that Vogel considers this. I have always thought that Vogel requires one of the Frontcourt Players ( whether it is the PF or C on the floor ) to be able to hit the midrange shot so that he can open up the paint for dribble penetration. This goes back even to last season when he had Hansbrough continually try ( and miss ) his Mid-Range jumpshot.

Unless Bynum can hit the mid range shot from time to time.....I doubt that we'd see any 2-man combination of Hibbert/Mahinmi/Bynum on the floor.

But then in NYC a big ball dropped at midnight, 2014 arrived, and Luis's shot went AWOL.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

Unfortunately I don't see Vogel ever even considering this. But if Bynum's any good, the pairing would be no worse than Ian/Scola offensively and probably a ton better defensively. Of course if Bynum sucks, then it's probably one of the worst lineups we can throw out.

What I really love is the idea of surrounding Bynum with shooters. CJ, Evan or Lance, Butler, and Cope with Bynum could be a lot of fun.

It most certainly was real. I watched it live and about choked on my beer when I saw it. It followed with a combination of pride and chuckles.

Look at his arms pumping, it's as if he's trying to win a 40 yard dash.

That was so far back in the season though, before D.Rose went down again. But this is why Luis needs to be benched for the next 20 games. He's got tired legs, and tired arms.
