Thread: Poll: When do you anticipate Bynum will start playing?

I said the first week in March, but the first half of the month would be fine. Bruno's blog post about Doug Collins thoughts on Bynum made me much more optimistic about where his head is. Healthy and motivated, he is the best player on the team. OK, 2nd best player. Then the biggest worry the Pacer fans will have is finding someone to get him the ball.

I'm starting to think he may never get a chance......though that really doesn't make sense to me because why would you sign a potential liability/locker room distraction to be a 3rd string C? If Bird was willing to take a chance on him I would think that means we intend to give him a chance at some point. I thought he would play post all-star break if we were serious about including him in the rotation. I too am confused with how and when we plan to implement him.

Holy Debbie Downer thread (for the most part). Don't know if was the Granger trade or what that has people down in the dumps.

If Bynum is healthy AND motivated, he is an all-star, dominant C. There is no way Ian Mahinmi gets minutes over that. But if Bynum is not both of those things, particularly healthy, it's an easy decision to play Ian. This isn't going to be a controversy because it's not going to be close either way.
Bynum will never be the All-Star player he was before. Based on what he's shown, he won't be close to it. For reference, see: Granger, Danny.

Just reading this thread, it sounds like everyone is down on Bynum, which is surprising considering he has yet to play a minute for us.
Looking at the poll results, it may just be that the negative people are more likely to speak up.

If he gives us what he gave Cleveland than he's gonna help. There's no reason to think he won't be at least that productive for us.

In the Bynum thread, it was said he'll have to be cleared for live contact, then practice for a few weeks before getting into game action. He practiced earlier in the week, but no contact. As far as we know, I don't think that clearance for contract has even happened yet. So it seems like the first week he could be out there was March 16th, but it's likely to be later than that.

Yeah, I was a little surprised, too.

Feels like the kind of atmosphere you'd expect during the O'Brien years right now around here. Gloomy. I can imagine why, but still.

I don't know the answer to the question, but this thread is a complete 180 from the thread announcing the signing.

That's why I said "if healthy". In any event, Bynum is a C and does not need extreme quickness and mobility like a wing. Also, Granger is over 30 years old while Bynum is significantly younger. Even healthy, Granger would already start slowing down. At it is, Granger is not much quicker than David West....and that's a big reason he's headed to Philly.

If the other players want him on the team, fine. But if not, I would prefer that we cut him next week. I don't think we need Andrew Bynum to win it all and I'm not sure I want him to be considered the piece to get us over the top.

Edit: But I expect him to remain on the team this year...with his first game being in the March 16-22 range.
Pacers haven't won anything yet. They need to stack up. Thats what miami been doing past 2 years. Bynum also has championship experience too. more rings than anyone on the team

So...you're saying we should keep Bynum if the other players don't want him on the team?

I just don't understand why we would pay him a million dollars if we didn't think he was going to play.

I'm pretty sure he will play and I expect him to remain on the team for the rest of the season. I'll say the first week of March.

I really feel one of the reasons Bird got Bynum was to keep Miami from getting him. Maybe not the major reason but never the less a contributing reason. JMOAA

Keeping him from Miami probably did factor in a bit. That said, I doubt if Ian was the one available instead of Bynum we would have made a move to keep Ian out of Miami's hands. If I'm correct on that, it certainly would reflect that we simply think Bynum is, or has a decent chance of being the better player anyway.

Well Granger is technically "healthy" but he still isn't what he used to be. Bynum's had so many knee problems that it's highly, highly unlikely that he will ever regain his All-Star form.

But then there's Westbrook. Who is PLAYING in a season where he's had 3 knee surgeries. Some people's bodies are just different.

He probably won't, but he did have a game where he absolutely dominated Noah this season...so there's still some lightning in a bottle there.

During the game tonight it was said he's started practicing with the team. I wonder if that means with contact or not. I noticed he was on the bench tonight. Was he in Minnesota, too?

Is there any reason why they wouodnt?? Aside from the lack of excitement in their voices in the interviews right after... But that doesn't necessarily mean they don't want him here...

NBA.COM has him listed as DND. Means he's close.

He was a DND b/c we didn't there were only 13 players there... No need to officially use the inactive list...

Westbrook's knee injuries have been far less severe than Bynum or Granger's.

Although if I were an OKC fan it would be cause for concern.
