Aren't the Pacers able to offer a qualifying offer to Allen and then ( if needed ) yank it ( like what they did with Hansbrough ? ).

Maybe try to make him an offer at $1.5 mil a year. I have no idea....at worst...just let him go then.
They can do that, but he can also accept it before we yank it too...

All I know is the Pacers have muuuuuuuch more flexibility for this summer than they did before the trade. In Larry Legend I trust.

I wonder what Bird meant about strengthening our core unit. A "just in case" someone throws stupid money at Lance?
By "core unit" Bird isn't referring to the starters only.. By all the things he has said in the past, he is referring to the top 7 or 8 guys on the team..

Plumlee reminds me of a young Dale Davis. Good rebounding and he contests shots well on defense and his offensive game is very raw just like DD's was coming out of college.

I can't believe that we got these two players for Granger and a second rounder. improvement.
Well, that ...... and in a round about way, you may as well consider Orlando Johnson a part of it as well... Even though O.J. was cut to open up a roster spot.. ultimately we still lost 2 players and a 2nd rounder...

We"ll isn't this an interesting situation that bird has put forth for us. Two young restricted free agents with something to prove and starters playing time up for grabs to play for a contract next season.

Lance is not a restricted free agent.... He is unrestricted... but we hold Bird rights on him..

Let's look at it this way. I am sad about losing Danny, but I am SUPER excited about our chances now. When playoff time comes, and rotations shorten to 8 players, we LEGITIMATELY have 8 players that are NBA starter caliber. Of course our starting 5, but with this years pickups in Scola, Bynum, and Turner.....Holy hell....I am not discrediting Mahinmi at all, but Bynum has the veteran playoff experience that I feel will benefit us greatly. The mighty Larry has swung his bat, and it looks as if he has hit a grand slam this year...

I just hope that losing Granger doesn't wreak havoc on team chemistry.....

This is ridiculous. Why are we even so freaking active? Is having the best record in the league not good enough? Are we really risking it all just to upgrade certain positions after half the games been played? We're adding guys who haven't been in training camp. Don't know our system. Don't know their role. And they won't have too much time to learn all that. Not to mention team chemistry. *******. And why Danny?

By all measurables the bench has played mediocre this year. It's was alright defensively but bad offensively and we lose nothing for trying out Bynum since Ian is still on the team.

You don't have the best record in the league anymore, and no it is not enough.

When you're that close to a championship, you do not ever settle for "enough." I don't care if it's upgrading the ball boys. You do it if you have the opportunity. The one thing you do not do is pass up an upgrade because it's late February and you like your W/L record.

At this point, it's clear that the front office has exhausted all possible options to win this team a championship. Bird has done everything he possibly can to deliver a championship this season. As far as this season is concerned, his work is finished for the most part. Now it's all on the players and coaches. Bird has given them all of the needed tools to succeed, but he can't put the ball in the hoop for them. It's up to them to seize the golden opportunity given to them by The Legend.

I consider him a solid defender. Meaning smart, but not having the athleticism to be an excellent defender
It's actually quite weird, because I would have sworn he was touted as going to be a good two-way player who because of his langarms and deflections in college was going to make life miserable for his opponents sort of like what Paul does now (but not as good, offcourse). I now I read he's a a bad defender. Were the scouting reports on him so off or was the situation in Phillie that bad or didn't he fit in the system(s) that they played or did he just never fullfill that defensive potential?

What's the rule on re-signing players you've traded and have been bought out?

I'm assuming you can't do it but couldn't you in the past?

Something is not right with Allen's supposed RFA status. He was signed to a 2- year contract in the SECOND round of the 2012 draft. If I'm not mistaken, that would make him UFA, not RFA.

Not quite. The Sixers (whether out of lack of foresight or lack of confidence) signed Allen to a 1-year deal after drafting him in the second round of the 2011 draft. He turned in a very nice rookie year performance including a good playoff showing, so the Sixers signed him to a 2-year deal (which is ending now).

RFA status applies to players with 3 years of service or less, or to first rounders with 4 years of service. So Allen still falls under RFA as a 3rd year player, but not Lance, since Lance is a 4th year non-first rounder.

It used to be 30 days. But in 2010, the Cavs traded big Z to the Wizards, who subsequently bought him out. He re-signed with Cleveland a little over a month later. IIRC, some people complained about this since this was back when Cleveland was a premier team with Lebron. I'm guessing it was changed in the last CBA?

All I know is I'm VERY curious to see how our bench looks with Turner and Bynum added to the mix.
They played Copeland against Minny for a reason. I think our bench will be.......

    Allen
    Cope
    Bynum
    Turner
    CJ

    For now....

    Scola
    Cope
    Allen
    Turner
    CJ

Ian is so bad I think Allen fits very well as backup center until Bynum is ready. Allen will at least give us offense along with defense. That's why I think Lavoy came in the trade. He holds down back up center until Bynum is ready. Then when Bynum plays Allen will slide to backup PF. What happens to Scola? He might get garbage time minutes. Scola is a good mid range shooter when he's on. But these days, because of the elbow or loss of confidence he's NOT on. His slow-footedness, and age also make him a defensive liability.

Cope defended well in that Minny game when he was playing. Love hit an amazing shot over him to end the 3rd quarter but Love was just hot that night. And we weren't. I honestly think this trade was long in the making, and the team knew it. Hence the lack of focus Tuesday. That.....and the b2b. It truly was Danny's last game. PG came to play still though.

I guarantee you we will not be going to a 10 man rotation. You are so insistent on that, and I have absolutely no idea why.

We don't have the best record in the league. And the way we are playing and the way the Heat are playing they are going to retake the East sometime in the next 2 weeks, if our guys don't start playing like they did in 2013
