Ravens RB Ray Rice and his fiancee were arrested over the weekend after a fight at an Atlantic City casino.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Ravens running back Ray Rice and his fiancee were arrested over the weekend after a fight at a casino in Atlantic City, according a statement from the Atlantic City Police Department.

Casino security called officers to the Revel Casino at about 2:50 a.m. Saturday after a domestic dispute between Rice and Janay Palmer that was recorded by video surveillance, according to a statement from police. Footage appeared to show both parties involved in a physical altercation.

“The complaint summons indicates that both Rice and Palmer struck each other with their hands,” the statement said.

Both refused medical attention and did not report any injuries. Rice, 27, and Palmer, 26, were charged with simple assault-domestic violence and were released on a summons to appear in court.

Rice's attorney, Andrew Alperstein, described the allegations as a “very minor physical altercation” with Palmer.

According to Chad Steele, the Ravens' director of public relations: “We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained.”

The Revel Casino security department declined to comment when reached earlier Sunday. Michael Diamondstein, a Philadelphia-based attorney, has been hired to represent Rice.

“We haven't seen any charging documents yet,” Diamondstein said. “There was an argument that included Ray. I can't give any specifics because we haven't seen the document yet.”

“Once we're able to go through the evidence, it should wind up to be little more than a misunderstanding,” Diamondstein said.

Rice was with a group of about eight people earlier in the night at Royal Jelly Burlesque Nightclub located inside the casino, said Scott Russo, the director of operations for the club.

“When he was here, they were having a great time – no issues – [Rice] was very nice to our staff,” Russo said.

He said Rice has been to the club before.

“We took care of him like we do any of the celebrities that come in,” Russo said.

Since getting drafted out of Rutgers in the second round of the 2008 draft, Rice has been one of the Ravens' most popular and productive players. A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Rice has rushed for 6,180 yards and 37 touchdowns over six NFL seasons.

However, he's coming off his most disappointing season as a pro: He was limited to 660 rushing yards and four touchdowns this past season as the Ravens missed the playoffs for the first time since he's been on the team.

Rice, who signed a five-year, $35 million deal with the Ravens in July 2012, has also been one of the organization's most active players in the community. He's been especially active in anti-bullying campaigns.

No truth to the rumor he tried to run from police but was tackled within 3 yards....
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

Rice sounds like a real winner.

Typically "minor" altercations do not end with someone getting knocked out.

There's TMZ video of him literally dragging his unconscious fiance out of the elevator then he paces around in a "damn, I ****ed up" manner. Unless she came at him with a knife or something **** Ray Rice.

Apparently she spit on him and then he knocked her out.

Ray Rice indicted for aggravated assault

Ravens running back Ray Rice has been indicted on one count of aggravated assault in connection with an incident with his fiancee last month in Atlantic City.

A press release from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office says that Rice was indicted for “attempting to cause significant bodily injury, and/or purposely or knowing causing such injury, and/or recklessly causing such injury under extreme indifference to the value of human life.”

When Rice was initially arrested, his attorney claimed Rice and his fiancee had only a “very minor physical altercation.” Rice’s fiancee was initially also arrested for allegedly assaulting Rice, but that charge has been dismissed.

If Rice is convicted he faces three to five years in prison.

    Sources: Ray Rice gets married

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and Janay Palmer were married Friday, one day after Rice was indicted by a grand jury on third-degree aggravated assault for allegedly striking Palmer unconscious, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The ceremony had been planned for a couple of weeks, according to sources.

Rice was arrested and charged with simple assault-domestic violence on Feb. 15 following a physical altercation with his then-fiancée at the Revel Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J.

Running back Ray Rice was indicted Thursday for third-degree aggravated assault tied to an altercation with his fiancée last month at an Atlantic City casino.
Palmer also was charged with simple assault.

Rice's aggravated assault charge carries a three-to-five-year sentence. Prosecutors say that the complaint against Palmer has been dismissed.

A video obtained and posted online by TMZ showed Rice lifting Palmer by her arms out of an elevator and laying her on the floor. Rice's attorney, Michael Diamondstein, has said the footage is authentic but incomplete.

"I have been advised by the prosecutor's office that an indictment has been returned," Diamondstein told ESPN on Thursday afternoon. "And again, we deny that he committed an aggravated assault. We don't think the law would support that [he did]. And we just ask the public to reserve judgment until all of the facts are out."

The Ravens released a statement Thursday that read: "This is part of the due process for Ray. We know there is more to Ray Rice than this one incident."

Rice was one of three Ravens players to be arrested in a 22-day period. Backup wide receiver Deonte Thompson was arrested for possession of marijuana on Feb. 21, and reserve offensive lineman Jah Reid was arrested on two misdemeanor charges of battery on March 9.

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti has said Rice has a future with the team despite his arrest.

Rice, 27, signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Ravens before the 2012 season. He is coming off his worst season, rushing for only 660 yards and averaging a career-low 3.1 yards per carry.

Earlier Thursday, Diamondstein told The Press of Atlantic City that neither Rice nor Palmer wants to move forward with the case.

"We vehemently deny that Mr. Rice committed an aggravated assault," he told the paper. "Both Mr. Rice and Miss Palmer are together, they are happy and they're in counseling."
