Yeah, I agree. I'm certainly not the biggest Mahinmi fan, but he has been plenty decent at times this season. We'd have to keep him around as insurance. I like the idea of bringing Bynum here, but we still need some insurance for a guy who has played just 24 games since the start of the 12-13 season.
Yea I'd be extremely nervous giving up Ian if Bynum is the backup center, just signing Bynum is worth it due to a low risk high reward. I don't recall the exact reports for his dismissal from Cleveland. Just read that he "didn't have the desire to play" but it did save Cleveland a lot of money by cutting him

I like the move if it happens. Costs us next to nothing, keeps him out of South Beach. Yes, he stunk it up in Cleveland, but that's arguably the worst franchise in the NBA. If Lance Stephenson was drafted by the Cavaliers chances are he would be out of the league instead of the last guy out on the Eastern Conference All-Star team. Plus, Bynum has every incentive to behave himself and play well if he ever wants to make guaranteed large sums of money at any point for the rest of his life. If we cut him on March 1, he cannot join another team for the playoffs?

They should take him to Bynum's Steakhouse. Maybe that'd be enough for him to sign...

I'm open to taking the low risk. If he wants to play he sould be able to outplay Ian for the backup spot. The bad think is the we wouldn't have time to see how Bynum fits in before the trade deadline. Moving Ian would turn Bynum into a high risk.

I said i'm not a huge fan of the signing, but Bird has proven to be one of the best at his job, so I trust him. So if he thinks we need Bynum, then i'll take him

I don't see how it can necessarily hurt. If he turns out to be a lockerroom cancer, you cut your losses. However, maybe West and Hibbert can help bring out the most in him.

I'm a big believer in culture and team chemistry, but I think this is a low risk, high reward move.

This is literally Bynum's last shot to play in the NBA, and he knows it. He's not dumb enough to blow this chance, unless he just doesn't have anything left in the tank.

Players ALWAYS think they have another shot. They've been pampered and mollycoddled all their lives so why wouldn't they befleve someone would give then another chance?

Still, I like it. I can see Roy in foul trouble vs. the Heat and Oden playing out of his ***....Bynum has the body to match up against Oden.
If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around..

He's over 7 ft tall and close to 300lbs of muscle. He will get attention for another 5 years. If he can actually play and straightens his head, we could be champions for years. If he doesn't (which I expect), we keep him from Miami and beat them to a pulp in a few months.

We are looking for a 5th big, not looking to swap Ian for Andrew...Who is going to play back up center when Bynum goes down which is definitely a possibility.
That answer is the same whether the backup to Hibbert is Mahinmi or Bynum.....Scola.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

You sign Bynum so no one else can...just in case.

You don't need him and he may not be in very good shape and we all have seen his cancer destroy teams. I don't see how this could free up moving Ian who has been a pretty solid backup and fits the rotation pretty well as the defensive big to go with offensive Scola.

And here I thought the TMac near signing was weird/out of left field.

From a purely basketball point of view, there is no reason for us not to do this.

    1) He stays out of Miami.
    2) We get additional frontcourt depth (potentially DEADLY depth if he pans out)
    3) He stays out of Miami.
    4) We can continue to play 'big' even if Roy is in foul trouble on any given night.
    5) He stays out of Miami.

If he flops here, which is certainly possible, or if he becomes a locker room cancer (a like possibility, unfortunately) then you keep him away from the team, cut him on March 2nd, and move on without him.

I thought Bynum put up decent numbers in Cleveland. Not saying he was a positive influence though.

FYI, Shamsports has an exceptions page. If it's correct, it looks to me like both Indiana and Miami have a mid-level exception left.

Love it, love it, love it.

I have no concerns about team chemistry. He looked awful in Cleveland, but everybody looks awful in Cleveland. Kyrie Irving looks awful in Cleveland.

The knees of course are the big issue. We'll just have to wait and see with that one.

Bynum wears #21 right? He's gonna come in and try to tell West to give it up, West is gonna punch him in his mouth, and that'll be that.

Gotta keep Mahinmi also. Don't play Bynum on the second night of back to backs, keep his minutes as low as possible until the playoffs.

    Yeah

As I said....the concern that you have exists now ( we have no backup to Mahinmi with Copeland backing up Scola if he shifts over ) as it would if Mahinmi was traded and replaced by Bynum.

Not sure if this was posted. Miami could offer more than vet minimum. He's negotiating guys.

    Here is the key sentence:

The Miami Heat are one of those teams interested in Bynum, but are trying to convince him to accept the veteran's minimum, even though they could pay him more, sources told Broussard.

Yes, We have our full MLE. I was pretty sure that was the case. I don't think it will matter. I doubt we use much of it on Bynum if we do sign him.
