I like it. Clear upgrade over Ian. Bench just got better.

Now, do the Pacers make any more moves like trading Ian/Cope? Granger hasn't looked good at all, OJ has regressed and Hill's a rookie. With Granger's play, I can't believe Cope can't get a little more playing time.
Lance + Starting SG = Awesome

    Now really free Lance!

Why? Some of you are acting like he has a genuine chance of destroying the team chemistry. We know he has talent, but we know he lost his passion for the game. We know he loves money, but he doesn't want to work hard for it. He's lazy, but he's no Eddy Curry lazy. All the Pacers need from him is 10-15 mpg of him beating up on other teams' second unit center. We're NOT signing him to be a starting center.

The only really downside I see is time investment. You know those moments where you've thought "man, I get what they're doing with Granger, but it's painful to watch right now when he's still struggling to find his legs/game/rhythm"? Get ready to multiply that by 100. While still thinking that about Granger.

Not saying Bynum will get nearly as many minutes as Granger. Just that, if they really do want him to make a difference off the bench, he's going to have to get SOME minutes. And there will be growing pains.

I cannot even believe that people are not liking this.

Its a high reward - no risk move. Whats not to like?

You think Bynum doesn't know that he is the joke of the league? If he gets cut again this season, his NBA career could be done. I promise you his agent has drilled this into his head over and over. Bynum has half a season to prove to the NBA that he has changed, I don't see him acting up.

On the off chance he does, the Pacers can cut him. Problem solved. Also, lets not act like Bynum is going to come in here and all of a sudden Paul George and Roy Hibbert are going to hate eachother. I see no way in which Bynum disrupts the status of our current locker room. Again, if he gets disgruntled, cut him.

High reward - no risk. Sign me up.
Despite me not liking Bynum for all of the known reasons, this is where I stand on this. Swinging for the fences in a smart way.

If he toes the line and his body can handle backup C minutes, this is now our bench, folks:

    CJ Watson
Lance Stephenson (because we play a 9 man rotation)
    Danny Granger
    Luis Scola
    Andrew Bynum

    Our BENCH. That is insane.

In this scenario, our offense is better because Bynum is a better individual scorer than Ian but will also draw more defensive attention than Ian (and he's capable of passing better than Ian as well when double teamed). He's also a bigger body defensively than Ian, and that's where I actually appreciated Ian the most was giving us 48 minutes of rim protection / shot contesting near the paint. Ian's more mobile, but Bynum is friggin' huge. If we get him playing with verticality the way Roy does, he's a brick wall with wings.

It could completely fail, but so what if it does; we're a 35-10 team already anyway!

There shouldn't be any chemistry issues. This isn't as if we traded away good chemistry players just to replace them with someone that could cause issues. We have the exact same strong group intact and added a player that can be cut after March 1st if he does become an issue.

This is very much a low risk high reward scenario and could be our Rasheed Wallace move that will help us win it all!

    Key parts of that article...

“We are obviously happy to have him join our team,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “He gives us added size, he is a skilled big man and he has championship experience. With the minutes he gets, he should be a valuable addition.”

Bynum will join the Pacers sometime next week.

“It really wasn’t a hard decision, I think it’s the right fit for me and, in all honesty, I think we’ve got the best chance of winning,” said Bynum. “It will be great to back up Roy and I’ll do whatever I can to help this team.”
Totally my interpretation, but given those two points, it sounds like he's about to take Ian's minutes. I guess "duh" on one hand. But I thought Mahinmi had been playing better the last 2 games, and not bad this season as a whole.

    WOW, okay, breaking news!

I just talked to my moms cousin, who is best friends with a vendor for Bankers Life Fieldhouse. This vendor was talking to a ball boy, who got the job as a ball boy because his dad is higher up in the organization. The dad, was at McDonalds and ran into Bynums step sister who said Bynum has signed.

Also, the step sister was buying Bynum 10 big macs, 5 large fries, and 3 XL cokes. :-(
Are any of these people making $7000 a week on the internet?

The cognitive dissonance is just flowing out of heatnation today. Every excuse they can make up as to why this was a bad idea for us. Some are actually pretending they are happy about it

    Quoted for truth.

The scary part about teaching him verticality is that he's actually a bigger player than Hibbert.

So he won't play tonight, but do we think he'll play Monday vs. Orlando, Tuesday @ Atlanta, or Friday vs. Portland?

Obviously total guess, but I would guess he's on the bench @ ATL, plays first limited minutes vs POR. Seems like, with these next-week adds, they usually need a couple practices first before they even played limited minutes.

With Bynum's knees his minutes will be limited so he should be fine. In addition if he can't go back to back Mahinmi is a solid back up for those games. Bynum when motivated even this year can still play ask the Bulls he had 20 points, 10 boards, 5 assists and 5 blocks and man handled Noah

Historically-speaking, it's so fitting to be on Pacers Digest the day Andrew Bynum ACTUALLY became an Indiana Pacer after those trade rumors oh so many years ago.

In that respect, it kinda reminds me of signing Gerald Green last summer.

I wonder if Chris Broussard thinks this means Miami is "toast"?
"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.

I will go on record and say this will not help or hurt the Pacers that much. If it helps. If Bynum plays well off the bench. And is solidly backing up Roy. Look for Ian to be traded.

In other words. Signing Bynum will allow us to resign Lance.

unfortunately thats not hibberts game, wish he had that in him, but hes more of a finesse player, doesnt have much of a mean streak in him, wished he did tho
I don't think it's about a mean streak, it's about his center of gravity (high) and his balance. It's not easy for him to just go up without a few steps to help him get there.

To the signing - I agree that it's low risk, high reward. In terms of helping Bynum fly right, this (along with San Antonio) is probably one of the best places he could have landed. No way DWest and company lets Andrew be a disruptive influence in that locker room. If he can give us 10-15 minutes a game at even half his peak it's a good deal for us. I feel bad for Ian, but there is no doubt that this has the potential to make the bench better.

We got the wrong Gerald Green last year. The one we thought we were signing is currently playing for the Suns.
