Didn't Larry Bird's driver leak a story a few years ago?
Yes, the Barbosa trade, and it was a good several hours before the official leak.

Btw, I don't like it at all. He's too unreliable, especially for the playoffs. Then again, Ian couldn't play much worse, so he won't have problems ramping up if he suddenly has to play again.

I don't see this happening, despite the reports.

If he has his head out of his *** and if he is fit, he is a much better option than Ian. I know that's 2 big if's but I'm glad Bird is taking that risk.

It's pretty clear that there are 2 ways this could go.

    A) He's an idiot. He'd be out of here in a heartbeat and it would really damage his options for next year. If he couldn't work it out with the Pacers, who WOULD he be able to play for ?? You've got Bird calling the shots and if he says adios, not sure many other teams would have a serious interest in him next year.

    B) He plays well. I just don't see a downside to that. Not sure there's such a thing as having too much talent on a team. And he's 7' tall - 280+. Let Roy get some rest, stick in a guy that's working for a contract next year .... good & good.

I trust Bird, Vogel, West and everyone else in the org to handle this the right way. Oh - and it keeps him out of Miami. There's the hat-trick.

I'm warming up to this now. Watch it not go through and Miami signs him tomorrow though.

Wow, the Pacers are actually going to do this? I like the (relatively risk free) gamble. He definitely "could" be an upgrade over Ian. He would be especially important for those games when Hibbert gets into foul trouble.
"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.

This is a good move. There's very little risk involved. If it doesn't pan out, we simply cut him and move on
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

I cannot even believe that people are not liking this.

Its a high reward - no risk move. Whats not to like?

You think Bynum doesn't know that he is the joke of the league? If he gets cut again this season, his NBA career could be done. I promise you his agent has drilled this into his head over and over. Bynum has half a season to prove to the NBA that he has changed, I don't see him acting up.

On the off chance he does, the Pacers can cut him. Problem solved. Also, lets not act like Bynum is going to come in here and all of a sudden Paul George and Roy Hibbert are going to hate eachother. I see no way in which Bynum disrupts the status of our current locker room. Again, if he gets disgruntled, cut him.

High reward - no risk. Sign me up.

    WOW, okay, breaking news!

I just talked to my moms cousin, who is best friends with a vendor for Bankers Life Fieldhouse. This vendor was talking to a ball boy, who got the job as a ball boy because his dad is higher up in the organization. The dad, was at McDonalds and ran into Bynums step sister who said Bynum has signed.

Also, the step sister was buying Bynum 10 big macs, 5 large fries, and 3 XL cokes. :-(

This is a great move. If he doesn't pan out, we're right where we are now (I can certainly live with that)

im sure Bird and Vogel sat Bynum down and talked to him about what the organization expects out of him and not to be a distraction in the locker room, cause we only have 4 legitimate big bodies on the team and we do need another "healthy" big, cause if west, scola ,hibbert or Ian go down for any lenght of time, we are screwed in PF, C area

Head cases are drawn to Miami. Bynum is using the Pacers to negotiate a deal with the Heat. He is disgruntled with Cleveland just as LeBron was and he'll join him down there. The only thing to work out at this point is the money.

@CandaceDBuckner: Bynum walked from his downtown hotel and entered Bankers Life Fieldhouse through front door, greeted by #Pacers VP of Basketball Operations

@CandaceDBuckner: The agent only hinted that I should "wait downstairs" then smiled. Bynum declined to comment.

Ick. Sorry, but thumbs down on this one; bad karma - it just doesn't fit with our tough-but-good-guys image. I can't get past the image of Bynum clotheslining JJ Barea....

Honestly if he's healthy and at least a little motivated he's upgrade at backup center. As long as he's okay coming off the bench then no problem.

The thought of Greg Oden going against Andrew Bynum in the playoffs is pretty funny to me for some reason.

I hope he can teach Roy how to power dunk.
unfortunately thats not hibberts game, wish he had that in him, but hes more of a finesse player, doesnt have much of a mean streak in him, wished he did tho

I love it. Bird pulling out all the stops! And JJ Barea is not anyone's son here so who cares about him.

    Let it go...

Personally, I like the signing. What's the harm? From my understanding, he's never been an outright disruptive individual. He has his pouty moments, but not enough for me to consider him to be a cancer.

Worst case, he gets cut after March 1. Or he's only an emergency big in case there's an injury to Hibbert or Mahinmi. Best case, he becomes a major factor off the bench. My guess is he'll be somewhere in the middle, leaning slightly towards the worst case.

I am really surprised he is coming to Indy. One positive thought is...with all that size in the paint it could also wear down the other team's bigs helping Roy out. Still, so many teams have gave up on him I am very skeptical he adds much.
