As someone earlier said....we go after him to keep him away from Miami. But why he'd go to Miami? They already have a 3rd Big ...going to Miami would make him the 4th Big where he can't even get any minutes. But then again....I question why he would come to Indy to be the 3rd Big and get minimal minutes ( at most ) in the first place
You're saying the Pacers will pay him millions just to keep him from going to South Beach? Doesn't make any sense. If we really have to fear him that much he WILL be playing ahead of Mahinmi.

This is pretty exciting. Especially for Bynum, who is usually bowling on Friday nights IIRC.

If he earns playing time he will definitely play... but it's just not our organization's culture to automatically give it.

If he shows commitment and effort there is no doubt he will play with the talent he has... and if he plays well and helps us win a title, he will be in line for a BIG payday in free agency. Since he is money driven that will be a big incentive.

Sure, it would be a d*ck move.....but it's not my $$$ . But then again, I question why he'd want to come here in the first place Maybe a chance at a deep Playoff run to show what he can do....maybe Bird FINALLY realized that Scola/West frontcourt doesn't work when Hibbert and Mahinmi get into foul trouble?

It seems that winning tends to be an effective treatment for Bynum's attitude....
Amazing how that works around the league. See Diaw.

First of all, theyre not going to be paying him "millions" even if they do sign him...

Second...its likely you will see him on a similar program to that of Oden....spot minutes while he tries to get in shape and regain some semblance of health so that he might be able to contribute in the playoffs...anything he can play between now and then would be gravy...and might allow Roy to play a few minutes less...which I get the feeling Roy is playing too many minutes...sooo....

I'm 50/50 on this. He's underwhelmed recently. Injury-prone. But... we'll get him cheaper than anyone has paid him... he's still surprisingly young... he's huge... has a skill set... and we have the coaching staff and supporting cast and championship-goals to put a real good frame around this guy. We'll be the first team to sign him with no intention of starting him, so it takes a lot of pressure off him, nor are we leaning heavily on this guy. There's no better situation to gauge if this guy has a shred of a future than on this team. He can either rebuild his career or fade into oblivion. If he pans out, we get a super talented center on the cheap... if he sucks we cut him.
If he can't make it here, I see no meaningful future for him in this league.

I think this is a good move. I wonder if he is still how he was in Cleveland? He played some good minutes there. He looked healthy. Still needed to lose some of the weight, but he had some good games off the bench. Amidst the turmoil, which after the report about Kyrie wanting out.....we can now all see all of that stuff wasn't Bynum's fault.

This is starting to sound like the Scola deal. Pops up late at night.

With DWest running the locker room, there's no way this guy acts up. Either he produces at some capacity or he's in street clothes in a best case scenario.

Straight outta high school and all. He broke JO's youngest NBA player ever record, I'm not sure if he was even 18.

You know... He had some games in the 20 and 10 ballpark for Cleveland just over a month ago. And he didn't look terrible or out of shape. And now he'll mostly be facing 2nd teamers...

Yeah great vid! I thought I saw a different vid where he looked all busted and fat. Must've been a mistake. Anyways, if we're getting that guy, who's only gonna get better as the season goes on, then I am for it even more. He's also been playing ball for most of the season. He was cut what, 3 weeks ago? So in reality, he hasn't played ball in just 3 weeks. As opposed to Danny missing a full year and more.

He does look a bit fat in this video compared to his Lakers day, but he sure looks like a starting quality C, at least on the offensive end.

I just so happened to catch that game he had against the Bulls and it's the reason I've been all for signing him since we first heard rumors earlier in the year. I like what Mahinmi brings and all, but he can't have a game like that.

I like this move. Team needs a spark right now and maybe this will give us one.

    Low risk/ High reward.

    * imho I think Mahinmi has been playing much better the last 20 games or so. Rebounding, giving us solid D, hell the dunk he had the other nite in a losing effort was awesome.

no idea how this unfolds but I like the depth it gives the Pacers.

If this does go down, I wonder if we try experimenting with two centers in at the same time at all.

No, it just means that we don't have to experiment with Scola and West on the floor at the same time.

The ONLY reason to have both of them on the floor at the same time is cuz Vogle LITERALLY had no choice cuz both Hibbert AND Mahinmi were in foul trouble. I have always hated the Scola/West Frontcourt....it just screams "attack the basket" to the other Team.

What's the answer to not being put in a position where you have no choice but to play Scola/West in the Frontcourt?

    Get a 3rd Center.

Go figure....I'm glad that Bird finally figured that one out.
