That would be my guess. I've thought all along he's headed to South Beach. The only reason he might want to settle here is to play behind Roy and give him time to heal his knees.
Miami has to cut someone to sign him though

I don't get why some had to report that it was close to a done deal if it's really not.

This really makes me wonder if Larry has something else planned in the form of a trade.
This is just what I was thinking. Ian maybe, and who else?

I would have to check, but Miami may be hard capped and we may have an exception we can use. I don't think it matters I can't see any team giving him anything over the min.

I would assume it would be Copeland based on the salary we owe him. If we could package Copeland and Mahinmi for someone with an expiring contract that would free up some space for next year if nothing else.

Trading Mahinmi now is a huge risk even if Bynum signs, he hasn't been healthy enough to count on him. Ian isn't the best but I'd rather have him then nothing it Bynum goes down.

He was doing fine with LA, who wouldn't be disgruntled in Cleveland. Especially a guy that has a clock ticking.

If it happens I like it. Bynum will have to prove he can still play to get a contract from someone next season. Best scenario he provides solid 15-18 minute back up to Roy at worse he flops and Pacers cut him. He has talent perhaps little interest in him recently will motivate him to play hard to earn a contract next season from someone

I don' think Ian becomes even the least bit expendable, given Bynum's health history. We'd need the insurance.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

I don't think theres going to be a trade. I've been saying all along that I thought the Pacers could use one last big, and wanted us to keep Hilton Armstrong after preseason for that reason. I was also willing to bring back David Harrison to be the last big man too.

How I read this, from Pacers' end: we have some questions about Ian's offense and Scola's defense. We want to continue to play big, so maybe it's worth low-risk, high-reward deal to find someone who could potentially help in one of those areas, situationally.

I can't see the team giving him anything that will put us into the luxury tax. I think this is a move so we can trade Ian, and save his $4m for Lance next year.

Yeah, I agree. I'm certainly not the biggest Mahinmi fan, but he has been plenty decent at times this season. We'd have to keep him around as insurance. I like the idea of bringing Bynum here, but we still need some insurance for a guy who has played just 24 games since the start of the 12-13 season.

We are looking for a 5th big, not looking to swap Ian for Andrew...Who is going to play back up center when Bynum goes down which is definitely a possibility.

I agree we would absolutely need another option at center with Bynum for the reasons mentioned. If we were to make a deal, I would assume it would include getting a center back with an expiring contract. That said, I'm not sure what the market for that would be right now (maybe Kaman?).

There is a joke here somewhere involving Lance, Bynum and 8 Seconds Saloon.

Can confirm @CandaceDBuckner report that Andrew Bynum & his representative are visiting Pacers. No deal yet, but could be one by morning.
