Default Pacers * Lakers * Sixers

This one was successful on ESPN's trade Machine.

Pacers trade Granger, Solomon Hill, and Ian Mahinmi
Lakers trade Pau Gasol, Wesley Johnson and Nick Young
Sixers trade Jason Richardson's contract (he's injured)

Pacers acquire Pau Gasol and Nick Young
Lakers acquire Ian, Danny, Jason, Solomon
    Sixers acquire Wesley Johnson

    Why?

Pacers need more offense off that bench. And Ian stinks. With this trade, Indy's projected bench..

    Scola
    Cope
    Pau
    Nick
    CJ

Pau is an expiring this Summer. A $20 million dollar expiring. Nick has a year left on his deal. He comes off our books next Summer.

Why for L.A.? Ian expires next Summer, Jason expires next Summer, Danny expires this Summer. Solomon is a nice young piece on a cheap rookie deal who could blossom in L.A. They just cleared Pau and Nick's salary from their books. And not only will have money to spend this Summer, but will have a ton of space next Summer to get Kevin Love. In this trade, they'd also get one of Philadelphia's 1st round or second round picks. Philly has 4 picks this coming draft.

Why for Philly? There is no way with their team as young as it is now (MCW, Nerlens Noel, Turner, Hawes, etc), that they will bring 4 new rookies into the fold. They're looking for now players. Wesley Johnson is a good perimeter shooter. He's done well on a depleted Lakers team with no real playoff hopes. He gives them better perimeter shooting, he's young, a quasi-big who can shoot the 3, and he can play now as opposed to being another rookie. He's a nice young piece. And he expires next Summer so he doesn't tie up Philly financially.

By the way, when I did this trade.....a black mark showed up next to Nick Young's name that read TRADE EXCEPTION. Can someone explain that to me? It seems if we trade for Nick Young, we get a trade exception along with him?

It means that the Pacers would use their trade exception to acquire him.

Re the trade, the Lakers won't do it. They want cap space.

They get cap space actually. Granger's expiring. Mahinmi and Jason Richardson are only owed about $1 million a piece for next season. They could always amnesty one of them if it's that big of a deal. Solomon is on a rookie deal.

Mahinmi, Jason Richardson and Solomon Hill make 12 mil combined next season.

Not to mention that NONE of those players can be amnestied....

Ok I re-did this trade with Utah involved as a catalyst.

    Pacers trade

    Ian Mahinmi
    Solomon Hill
    Danny Granger

    Lakers trade

    Nick Young
    Pau Gasol
    Jordan Hill

    Utah trades

    Derrick Favors
    Brandon Rush

    Indy receives

    Pau Gasol
    Nick Young

    Utah Receives

    Jordan Hill
    Solomon Hill
    Ian

    Lakers receive

    Danny Granger
    Brandon Rush
    Derrick Favors

Basically from Utah's point of view, they're trading Favors for Hill. Hill averages 2PPG more than Derrick. But maybe they just like Jordan more than him right now since Favors has never really lived up to his potential many years later. As a big time PF in the NBA. Solo is a nice piece for the future, and will live up to his potential more likely than Brandon who hasn't till this day. Solo doesn't even see the court in most of our games and he's averaging more in his rookie season than Brandon is now for Utah in his 3rd or 4th year. Ian is filler.

Lakers get back 3 expiring contracts. Granger, Rush, and Favors. They could also re-sign Favors, and maybe sign Carmelo in the off season.

    Favors
    Melo
    ???
    Kobe
    ???

Or they could sign and trade Favors for more assets. Indy gets a bench boost. Pau and Nick, with CJ and Scola. Cope finally gets some run now too behind PG.

That's like suggesting Lance Stephenson for Jodie Meeks. Two different caliber players. Jordan Hill is a nice 26 year old rotation player. Derrick Favors is a 22 year old, bigger, more athletic, better defensively and just all around a much bigger talent. He's not averaging 2ppg less than Jordan Hill either.

Utah gave Favors a near-50 mil extension, by the way.

PS: for stats and salary data, I suggest basketball-reference.com. You get lots of wrong data from whatever site you are using.
