    Default Greg Oden

watching the heat game and Oden looks good. why the heck did we not pick this kid up as our 3rd big. Oden has had a blocked shot and offensive rebound put back dunk in a span of 60 seconds.

time will tell but right now Oden is playing well.

Just guessing...becuse it was Oden's choice to play in Miami?

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

He is looking so good that he helped the Heat avoid a 3 game losing streak to NY, Brooklyn and Washington... Oh wait... But seriously, anyone can look good for a few minutes... And they would need Oden to look good for much more than a few minutes for them to nullify the Hibbert advantage...

All Miami is looking for is to help them win one game in the playoffs against the Pacers. That's it. One game. And if Oden can play Hibbert effectively for 15 minutes and help them win one game, he's worth his entire salary plus luxury tax payment this season.

It sounds ridiculous, but it really is that simple.

Yep. I believe we did inquire....

Doesn't matter. If Miami gets Bynum and he gives them a single useful minute people'll be saying the same thing. Money's the same, where you wanna hang out the next few months as a rich, far as I know single, dude in his mid 20s? Miami or Indy?

Look out your window right now. Not a tough choice.

Oden could rehab in relative obscurity now in Miami. LeBron and Wade take all the headlines and make all the noise. In Indy, he'd have to deal with friends and family as he's from here. I'm happy for Oden and it's good to see him back. I wish him well just not against us.

my understanding from various reports is Oden was interested in playing for indy. below is a SBnation article stating he would love to play for the pacers. Not sure how much merit the site has but its one of the few reports I could find.

    http://www.indycornrows.com/2012/3/1...ana-pacers-nba

what I recall is Indy had no interest in Oden. only SA, and MIA and maybe one or two other teams which did not include indy.

bit surprised Miami is playing oden this early in the season. even heat reports had him back around late feb early march. great pickup for the heat if Oden can stay healthy and provide 15 minutes a game in the postseason.

found some more articles on this. Pacers had interest but not as much as other teams it sounds like. Perhaps it was Oden who preferred MIA over his homestate. if that's the case its a helluva lot easier for me to root against this guy to succeed. not saying I want to see him get injured but he can suck it.

    http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...and-grizzlies/

I did hear one reprt that Oden was downtown indy and someone said "look its roy hibbert" and it upset him. said he was bothered by the fact that he is not recognized in his own homestate.

    fair enuff.

Oden didn't have a job, of course he'd "love to play for" any team that offered a contract.

I updated the post. Oden had strong interest from 5 different teams. pelicans made a strong push from other articles reviewed. kings, mavs, spurs, heat. Pacers had mild interest it sounds like.

Ian is playing great basketball. It was reported we had interest in Bynum to keep him away from MIA. Seems like the same logic would have been considered in regard to Oden as well.

I am not saying Oden is gonna resurrect his carreer but right now would like his services as a third big for us.

Meh, he's not even playing every night for Miami yet. I agree he's looked alright in his limited minutes but I'm not going to worry about it.

well hell d wade isn't playing for those clowns either right now and I wouldn't mind him on our bench. I just don't like Oden an Indiana kid going down to south beach to chase a ring. I thought Oden was a bright guy.. he should have went to SA all things even.

im not gonna worry about either but I don't like it.

Mark Titus who has known Oden since high school seemed to hint more than once that Oden's top two sites all along were Cleveland or Miami.

I see your bet of Oden pulling down an offensive Rebound and block shot in 60 seconds and raise you Hibbert blocking 5 shots and pulling down 4 Rebounds in the first 8 minutes of the 1st QTR of the Clipper game.

Those were his stats for the entire night. So everything he did on the night, he basically did on one offensive play and one defensive play?
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

A bright guy wouldn't choose the two-time defending champ if they wanted to chase a ring?

What if someone from a school of business or management school were to ask, How did you do this? How did you get the Pacers turned around? Is there a general approach you've taken that can be summarized?

The other way around - yes.

You all have seen what happened with the Asik / Howard combo in Houston.

I think Oden's relationship with Indy is a very straightforward one: we already have our starting big, and there's really noone that'd displace him at this point. He's the defacto DPOY this year.

Oden knows that the best he'll ever do is backup big here, and I'd suspect he has greater aspirations then that.

Cleveland and Miami both have the space to allow him to potentially mature into the starting big role.

LOL, jumping the gun here. This dude has not played over 20 minutes for the entire season yet and you already think he is looking to be a starter somewhere in the future? No team is going to sign this guy to play starters level minutes. With his history he will be a back up for the rest of his career.
Miami is only going to play him sparingly for the entire season and probably only sparingly in the playoffs. He might get 15 minutes against the Pacers.

With the way these 7fters are breaking down over the last decade it wont' be long to see an MLB type rotation with Pitchers. I could see a team signing 3 Bigs to rotate in and out of the line up to keep them injury free, and fresh for the whole season.
