It would sure be interesting to know what software he used to do that with.

That is pretty slick; he did a great job getting it dialed in and capturing the
    moment.

I don't know how to do it or anything but it's a process called rotoscoping. The band A-Ha made it famous with their video back in like 88 or something.

Rotoscoping is easy. It is simply just drawing on top of the image. So what this guy did was take it into, probably, Illustrator, but maybe Photoshop, put a frame on the background layer. Created a new layer on top of the background layer, and just traced the image. He then repeated that for each frame.

(I am 99% certain that is Illustrator)

One of my all time hated songs, the video was creative though.

This is why a lot of animators hate rotoscoping being lumped in with regular animation, but the work can be painstaking and there often is leeway for creativity within the interpretation. See Waking Life (Linklater film) for example and the subsequent imitation investment company commercials that copies that particular style.

My biggest concern here in regards to the amount of credit due is that there a lot of automated processors that can quickly perform these kinds of images. There are thousands of auto processors for still pictures that will simulate all sorts of artistic styles, not just medium (ie chalk, stained glass) but also style/artist (like Monet). It's getting tougher to know just how much is due to the tool and how much is due to the artist.

Of course music has this same issue, not just auto tune but what even constitutes an instrument or playing an instrument. I guess ultimately you have to let go of "credit" and just enjoy the product.

But in this case I think we can all agree the real artist was Paul George working in the medium of inflated ball on polished wood.

Psh, I could do that in Microsoft Paint.

    Joking aside, that's pretty awesome.

Ralph Bakshi did some awesome stuff with rotoscoping.

Also, rotoscoping was used heavily in Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"

For a second I read "ArtEst Imitates Paul George's 360 Dunk"
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.
